Show us your gaming setup: 2011 Edition

...in the event that I give up on my other hobbies and get serious about gaming again, I will look to put something like this together.

I wouldn't have a clue about how to get it started though, pretty tech silly for my age.

The big question I would wonder is how many games support it natively? or do you run the game at a really widescreen resolution and span/full screen across your monitors? Doesn't Windows 7 no longer span? or does the graphic card make the OS think it's one monitor?

You are right; Single, a very good paying job. I'm home one week out of three so this is my holiday hideaway I guess. Work at least 14 hour days when i'm at work. I can't imagine finding a partner who would be interested in the way I live so I just enjoy myself the best I can.

As to the question about bezels. The brain is very good at filtering information. there are prople who have blind spots on the retina and their brains filter it out. It's the same. Of course some people will see the bezels and it will drive them crazy (think dead pizels).

As to input lag. I'm using plasma TVs which have a 600 hz sub frame. There is no input lag. Which is 100% true except for Crysis 2; why? I don't know. But i've adapted and it's fine.

What kind of job offers a week off every three weeks if you don't mind me asking?

Seriously impressive setup. What system is powering that behemoth?

Mines nothing special,. I move my room around multiple times and change rooms, but here's what mine currently looks like:

Since my laptop fried, I had to use my moms old desktop.

Not pictured: Another TV in front of my Bed with the Wii Hooked up to it (Use it for netflix).

This summer I will be dry walling my gaming room and moving into there.

I don't know what he does but I know a couple of Electricians who would do something like three weeks straight in the Alberta tar sands then get a week off. They would make crazy money doing that.

My new gaming setup is finally moving ahead. We are just completing buying a new London flat and will get contractors working on it in a few weeks, and should be able to post pics in August.

This is my spec for the entertainment setup - there will be 4 back speakers too for a full 7.1 surround.

I'm currently not upgrading from my Sony 52X2000 TV because, to be honest, TVs don't seem to have evolved much in the 5 years since I bought it. But I'm leaving space for up to 70 inch TV.

My only concerns are whether the Wii sensor bar is too high, and whether the TV is too high, we have pretty low sofas.

I would do this, make sure that entertainment center can close off with a nice white front, cut squares into the bottom for it to breath (maybe staple a nice mesh) and use RF to IR repeaters to control it. It'll look that much better closed off.

I would also just place the Wii Sensor Bar on top of the TV as you can hide the wire through the wall. Then you can make that opening smaller and the eye/kinect closer in.

Also while that center speaker will be powerful from an aesthetic point of view it's kind of ugly with your layout. I would recommend looking into a flat center channel.

Great comments thanks! Actually now that you mention it, I could stack the Wii bar and Kinect, making the opening/shelf (not decided yet) smaller. The only concern is that it needs to be next gen proof once everyone roll in their next gen sensors.

For the entertainment centre, fully agreed, sliding doors. Have to find some decent IR repeaters, I got one from Amazon but it was shit. Good point on ventilation. I have to see what my contractor proposes.

The middle speaker is the biggest aesthetic compromise, but if I am to enjoy the Genelec experience it needs to be identical to FL and FR. The sound more than makes up for it though, absolutely godly sound.

I wouldn't go with sliding doors but a hanging door attached by push magnets. Sliding doors won't give you that nice level/even finish on the front.

Here is what I would recommend. You can get these 3 items. Fairly cheap.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002LAR5NW/

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000E5LDO8/ (Edit - Added)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002GGQLHM/ (You can put this infront of an RF to IR repeater inside the cabinet so you don't need to put this outside)

Fair enough on the speakers. Function vs Aesthetic, I leaned on the Aesthetic side for my speakers because a) I'm not an audiophile so my ear can't completely tell the difference (but I can appreciate it), b) I'm too poor for nice speakers like yours :)

Oh wow, that's crazy future technology. The IR to RF thing I had ages ago was one of those flimsy things where you put a transmitter inside your remote battery compartment and it eats up the other battery in, like, a day. I'll def get one of those Logitechs now.

Regarding audio - yeah I was there too, perfectly happy with my Sony surround set you can see in some of my earliest setups. Only once I was introduced to better speakers I started to hear what I didn't know existed, luckily by then I could afford it - well, climbing up through one set to Genelecs. Don't think I will need to go any higher since these are used for reference in mixing and have plenty volume.

Nice. Great hues for an environment with good natural lighting. Which brand(s) and colors did you use?

I have exactly the same chair, it was 200$ from officeworks and it's quite nice, although some stupid design choices like the reclining lever (makes the chair uneven when it's in)

Man leng jai I always love your setup! Your room seems really small but you have so much cool stuff and it's set up really well.

Honestly this is way better than 3x 24" monitors in every way. There is a physical min distance I have to sit away from the screens due to the table and it's perfect. Really a lot better than I expected.

For the game previously displayed (Bulletstorm) I had to do a widescreen fix cause it isn't supported natively.

I mainly play Rift and the UI is fully movable so it's perfect. I also play Dirt 2, Shift, Shift 2 and the setup is beyond good. Bad Company 2 is a fave and that runs like a dream as well.

Have been playing some crysis 2 as well and it moves the hud to the outer TVs which isn't ideal but is still workable.

RTS games I usually have to play on a single screen. The UI is just too all over the place.

EDIT

Wait, what?! What's with the wii games like that?

CFW - means I can run all my
legitimately purchased
games from my HD and not have to swap disks constantly. Box art downloads automatically when you add a new game.

*EDIT - damn! beaten trying to add pointless spoiler tags!!

Behind every good Wii is a strong harddrive.

which app is that, i wanna do that to my wii

You guys are LTTP. The USB Loader is the best new thing of a couple of years ago.

Keeping your entire collection of Wii games in just a small partition of a hard drive is awesome.

Yeah, it's a really nice feature and pretty much the only thing I even use Wii CFW for at this point. Used to do the same with my old OG modded XBox 1 too.

I have no idea if the 360 and PS3 CFW that are out there have this feature, but I wouldn't want to get my consoles banned anyway.

It certainly isn't big...theres barely any leg room between the bed and he couch.

Thanks for the feedback, you don't want to know how many times I've re-arranged it.

Are you using CFG Loader? And if so, which theme is that?

If I've learned one thing from the those three plasmas it would be, 'TVs>Window Treatments'. Especially when you can just use the boxes the plasmas came in to cover the windows.

The little dude is pretty awesome. He has a strange obsession with my mouse though. They make such good pets.

What's the name of the species? And if you by any chance know a good website which goes in detail about the pros and cons, I'd appreciate it. =)

He's a Bearded Dragon. I got most my information from this website. They have some very good care sheets and articles about Beardies. The forums are also a wealth of knowledge. If you decide to get one be warned these little guys are easy to fall in love with. :)

You must have a big dorm then for all that stuff.

Its pretty big. I think its 12x13. I can fit quite a few people in here for movie nights and gaming. The surround system is a nice touch too.

Like I said in the GAF Cribs thread.

I always feel so poor when I make my way back to this thread :lol

It also keeps on making me want to move to Vancouver.

I'm moving out of the place I'm staying right now with 2 roommates, to getting my own Studio Apartment. It's about 500 sq ft., but I think I can fit everything I need in the space. I'll post pictures once I have everything setup.
