Sid Meier shouldn't be allowed to sell crack in a box...

Picked up the Limited Edition at Fry's for $40 and started playing at 1pm...next thing I know it's dark outside and it's 7pm.

It's the Civilization curse! It sucks away the time before you know it! MMORPGs have nothing on the crack Sid Meier cooks up!

Having a whole fleet of Pirate ships with a 40-gun flagship and cruising around the Florida keys beating the crap out of the French shouldn't be this addicting, but it is!

If you own a PC that can run it and do not play Pirates! you are no longer allowed to play PC games because you have no taste.

Are there still issues with the DVDs in the LE edition? My brother is willing to pick it up for me for Christmas and needs to know which version to get.

I couldn't wait for Euro release so a friend sent me a copy over the pond.

Digital Crack, no doubt about it, it's a total lifesucker and faithful to the original.

But boy does the dancing suck, although the thought of modding my copy & replacing the tunes used with tracks by Napalm Death, Einsturzende Neubauten & Lawnmower Deth has a perverse attraction to make it oh-so much more amusing :D

I just downloaded the NoCD file from gamecopyworld.com and everything's been super ever since.

There's not been an official patch yet. I imagine we can expect one in the next few days.

The dancing sucks less if you watch the hand gestures. I really don't get the timing of it, though. I don't know if I am supposed to hold a button in or just tap it. I don't know if I'm supposed to hit the button on the beat or when the characters start to move.

I do fine just winging it, but it would be more satisfying if I knew what I was trying to do, exactly.

Funny, I was thinking of doing that but putting in Mancini's baby elephant walk, some bagpipe tunes and Three 6 Mafia's seminal classic, "Ass n Titties".

I could go either way, though.

you just have to tap it. if you manage to hit it on the first beat of the measure, you do an ultra-sexy flourish. if you tap it just after the downbeat, you'll get credit for the move, but not much at all. if you press the wrong button or wait too long, you stumble, which destroys the big heart.(

does that have anything to do with dj assaut's version? because that would fucking rock. shame it's not a waltz, though. the game won't be able to synch up.

no, but with the details maxed, i seem to get better performance in half-life 2. the sailing screen is in an almost constant state of slowdown. strange. (6800gt)

Is there a memory leak? When I start playing the game everything runs fine, but after a while (20-30 minutes, maybe more.. Hard to tell with this game. :D ) I am in slowdown heaven, in the battle scenes, the game runs at perhaps 2-5fps. Very odd, anyone else experience this?

I played it for 20 hours and couldnt stop, now i dont want to play anymore. Thing is its awesome at the lower difficulties but the higher ones (think im on swashbuckler at the moment) suck because rather than adding things and making the game more complex it just gets less forgiving with the sword fighting (aswell as smarter AI ships), so it basically just makes you feel like you're getting worse, also i got a flag galleon from my first encounter with the bad guy who captured your family, about 5 hours in and as far as i can tell theres no where to go from there (it came fully upgraded).

I assumed that ports would become unwelcoming to me as i went up the difficulties but i still havent had to creep into town once, and i cant attack forts from sea (whats with that? that was one of the best bits of the original) and it seems you can only attack settlements that have goveners buildings (ie not settlements where you talk to the govenor and he tells you to escort him somewhere else).

As if fighting the same Baron dozens of times for bits of map wasnt bad enough, the bastard runs round the map like a ferret on speed! And sailing against the wind is the most frustrating thing ever (especially if you've been in a fight and your sails were damaged), most of the time at swashbuckler difficulty my crew gets mad and i have to divide the plunder before i even find him, then when i get back (6 months later or whatever it is) the damn baron is back over the other side of the map.

Like i say i played it for 20 hours and couldnt stop, i loved it at the start but little frustrations just started setting in after that, i think maybe its best played if you dont even bother moving up the difficulty levels (though then you'll never meet the wealth goals)

Nope. I love Pirates! but as for time played:

World of WarCraft ~ 80 hours played
Pirates! ~ 2 hours played
