Silent Hill 2 |OT| You promised you'd take me there again someday...

It seems that in-game fps cap is the main cause of stuttering. Limiting framerate with Riva Tuner almost completely eliminated stuttering for me.

Good game so far. This is one time where I am glad that those youtubers like Melonie Mac and Vera Dark and many others that are anti modern audiences were wrong about.

Honestly, I was VERY disappointed to see Bloober partnering with "Hit Detection LLC" again (after the last Layers of Fear). But according to what I've been hearing, their contributions to the game have been mostly erased after both Bloober and Konami getting cold feet about the "modern audience" bullshit. Having finished the game, I couldn't find a single thing that can be classified as 'woke', and nothing even remotely close to Alan Wake 2/Spiderman 2 levels. If anything, Maria is much more flirty (and sexualized not in appearance but rather in behavior) in the remake.

FSR3 vs FSR1.0 vs TSR
though fsr3/dx12 needs to be forced by, and editing something in engine.ini file. but it works. and not on low settings. just shadows low as for now i dont see many shadows on streets. will see later whats better with flashlight.

I'm waiting for the work day to end so I can get back to the hospital. What a gem of a game. Bloober is like the world's greatest cover band at this point.

I'm amazed at the restraint they've shown so far in SH2. In Observer, Blair Witch, and the Layers of Fear series, it seems like they just bombard you with sensory overload and jump scares at a certain point, but they've kept the tone nice and tense in SH2 so far.

I’d be new to silent hill if I get this

I was absolutely shit scared of horror games barely able to do the OG RE4 back in the day

However I’ve enjoyed all the modern era Resident Evil remakes

Is it action game-y at all?

I rarely replay games, but i already thinking about replaying this one lol. The way the game plays, i can already tell it will be fun to revisit this

It's the combat for me. People diss on RE3 Remake, but the combat with the dodge/roll made it the most fun to replay for me. Definitely installing mods on subsequent playthroughs too!

I think I'm coming around on the combat, and I think it's actually really good. It's got me whacking/stomping enemies 5+ times once they're immobile on the ground. Part of it is because I think it plays a part in them getting back up later but mainly because I get hyped up and tense and I want these MFers to STAY DEAD.

Pure dark beta mod is out for FG DLSS3. Works great for a beta. Well worth the one time sub until devs officially supports it.

I think this bodes well for me. I've got the very common combination of a 7800x3D and a GTX 1080. No one publishes any perf testing that even gives me a clue what mine will do lol. This is close enough to indicate I'll get my 60 with FSR Quality at least.

The one thing I'm really looking for input on, I've seen the PS5 Performance / Quality picture comparisons. Is that just turning all ray tracing features on and off? I don't have RT on my card and I'll probably just hold off if it looks like those performance screen caps. Not saying it's horrible, just enough for me to wait.

Resident Evil is on the action side of horror. Your character is supposed to be equipped and trained to kick ass.

Silent Hill is on the psychological side of Horror. You character is supposed to be an everyday individual who is not trained for combat, makes do with whatever is around to kill monsters. Your supposed to feel the odds are always against you.

There may be exceptions as I have not played every game in either series but that seems to have always been the jist.
From what I remember of Shattered Memories in fact, you could only run.

Ah gotcha. Is this new game still somewhat friendly for newcomers to the series

The excellent graphics are an attraction. Also, because I am not 12 years old anymore I may not require the same diapers as I used to for the "im gonna shit my pants" feeling I got from horror games haha

Not at all
Ah damn
But it is a single player focused story game....do you need to know the first game to play this one story wise

There is some action but it's not the main component at all

Note that the game is way way scarier and more intense than RE remakes
Oh wow. Ok good to know haha. Maybe I will need a diaper still lol

For someone on the fence like myself, is there a good review you'd recommend so I can get an idea as to the game play? I like single player games and this seems right up that alley

Ultimately I'll have to simply buy + try, gamestop has an excellent trade in deal here in Canada for it which I may take advantage of

So at least in hard mode, enemies have random health and can randomly revive...like even after 30 sec you killed and stomped on them uh...

Exhausted but snuck in 20 minutes before bed.

Wow, all I did was walk in a straight line but the atmosphere was absolutely incredible. First time in ages I can remember choosing to walk instead of run, just to soak it all in. Excited to play in full tomorrow.

So heres my 3 hour impression playing on PC maxed out, no RT cuz lumen does a fantastic job and theres no point to HW RT without dlss frame gen. Playing on hard, it's quite unforgiving and I had to run around with low health a lot of times so much that the red screen flash was really annoying me but thankfully modders saved the day https://www.nexusmods.com/silenthill2/mods/48

Atmosphere/visuals/details are top notch, they did a fantastic job no doubt, sound design also incredible. Animations are a bit stiff, miles behind a game like TLOU2 for example, but serviceable. Gameplay is a bit basic but I suppose its to be expected since it's a remake of a very old game. Performance is absolutely fine on my end have like 120 fps maxed out, like I said, no RT 1440p, dlss, there are some transversal stutters since the map is big'ish but not very annoying ones.

Overall this is no doubt Bloobers best game and it's a good game, I'd say an 8 so far.

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
just reached the last dungeon

i say gawt daemn

Had a great for my first 6 and 7 hours and only some very minor petpeeves, which were easy to forgive, considering that I expected much worse from Bloober.

So far it was GOTY material, as hard as it is to believe. Sadly, I've come across my first big disapppointment, which might put it below the original for me.
The demonic world was way more subtle in old Silent Hill 2, but now the hospital is just another rust/metallic stage... meeeh

However, just as a hardcore survival horror game, I couldn't ask for me. Figuring shit out on your own, enemies that are actually dangerous this time, etc. I really hope this game is successful, because I'm getting sick of handholding and baby difficulty everywhere else these days.

Man i usually don't even notice rtx but in here i tried on\off in the very first walk you do in the corridor forest before reaching the actual city and the difference was pretty big.

Maybe inside the city the difference is ower but for now i'm keeping that shit on.

To counter the frame loss i have shadows on low, minimal difference but big frame gain, also AA off, dlss quality is still soft enough to not need any AA.

i am so tempted to launch this game on my vanilla ps5 but i know that in 4 weeks i can experience this on pro with a much needed patch, the shimmering and visual quality during motion on performance is rough to say the least

It’s worse than that. After you get to a certain length in the game, enemies will react-spawn to you picking up stuff or facing enemies in certain situations.
Enemies will even spawn behind you!
Learn how to dodge and also keep in mind… if you start a melee animation, you can cancel into a dodge. That has helped me a ton. Even flesh lips cry when I enter the facility. 😎

I just arrived at Woodside Apartments and standing in front of the "coins puzzle chest" this song started playing. I don't remember this track from the original and it's beautiful sounding and somehow created the absolute perfect "calm after the storm" moment right there. No cutscene, no slow walking required. One of the best moments in gaming I've had in a minute.

As someone who shit on this relentlessly, trailers did not do this justice at all. I've said it before but I really think Bloober sucked ass and it's almost shocking what they did here so far. Funny thing is I love that you can still feel the AA Weirdness DNA in here. The level design, the pacing and lack of modern interruptions feel very of SH2's actual era without feeling forced.

Idk I've got a lot to say about it exactly because I was fucking pissed that Bloober Blooper out if anyone would remake this. If I had the time I'd play this for hours on end right now.

Some random standouts...the sound design is nasty, smashing windows is pointlessly satisfying like rolling into barrels and I can't stop, melee combat on Hard is actually challenging and dodge feels right for James, unlocking doors from the inside after finding a way in never gets old in games, the whole game feels surprising like "its own thing" and not a drab SH2 cover band, the added areas have been killer...
