Ah gotcha. Is this new game still somewhat friendly for newcomers to the series

The excellent graphics are an attraction. Also, because I am not 12 years old anymore I may not require the same diapers as I used to for the "im gonna shit my pants" feeling I got from horror games haha

Ah damn
But it is a single player focused story game....do you need to know the first game to play this one story wise

Oh wow. Ok good to know haha. Maybe I will need a diaper still lol

For someone on the fence like myself, is there a good review you'd recommend so I can get an idea as to the game play? I like single player games and this seems right up that alley

Ultimately I'll have to simply buy + try, gamestop has an excellent trade in deal here in Canada for it which I may take advantage of
I'm in the same boat as you.
Never played a silent hill game.
Was way too scared to play horror games when I was younger, but I enjoy the new re games.

For what it's worth, I'm about 3 hours into this
And I'm quite enjoying it.

So at least in hard mode, enemies have random health and can randomly revive...like even after 30 sec you killed and stomped on them uh...

I've not had any enemies revive on hard, but then I stomp them until the resident-evil style pool of blood develops under their bodies.

Okay, I don't know if I'm seeing shit I wanna see here and if this makes sense. The new interior layouts seem designed in ways to work with the new third person view to create "cinematography" similarly to what the old camera achieved in the original. The layouts, angles and lighting seem so meticulously designed to give you almost natural set pieces or shots. RE2R had this going as well but this takes it to a crazy level.

The visual transition from Woodside's lobby to the stairwell with the skylight dripping water and then rounding the corner into the 2nd floor hallway is shit you dont even see in most Horror movies now.

The way they’ve Metroided these “dungeons” is simply masterclass. They’re tight, cohesive and treat you like you know what what the fuck you’re doing. It’s remarkably refreshing. The non handholding combined with such a good “just-enough-info” map makes planning the routes you’re going to take some of the most thrilling shit I’ve played in eons.

I hope the success of this encourages Konami to put out a classic collection. I need more Silent Hill in my life.

I think this bodes well for me. I've got the very common combination of a 7800x3D and a GTX 1080. No one publishes any perf testing that even gives me a clue what mine will do lol. This is close enough to indicate I'll get my 60 with FSR Quality at least.

The one thing I'm really looking for input on, I've seen the PS5 Performance / Quality picture comparisons. Is that just turning all ray tracing features on and off? I don't have RT on my card and I'll probably just hold off if it looks like those performance screen caps. Not saying it's horrible, just enough for me to wait.
yh i thought about too upgrading laptop to like rtx 4070 to geet those RT things and all but for now like we still can play those games
gtx 1080 should do justr fine im sure. even all maxed with fsr 3 . just game needs to be started with line -dx12 to get option for fsr3. in default its just fsr1.0 and TSR.
all those complains about u5 engine and how bad it performs, and now i tested it myself and it can run and look decent rly. but man before that flashlight those rooms are so dark..like pitch black, i tried to raise gama still its super dark if you play it at day time ... ohh man. cant wait to find that flashlight at last. so good black on this game if you have decent screen for blacks .
and game itself, thats how remake should be done for me for my taste. not like re remakes, wasnt working for me at all. im like gamer from 90's

As much as I love horror, I have a piss poor sense of direction and always find myself opening up the map every 3 steps. This is true of every survival horror game I have ever played. I love them, but I am the sad type that needs a physical guide in front of me at all times or else I run in circles for an hour looking for a new way forward every time I pick up a new item. I have the memory of a goldfish, sadly. I miss strat guides. I blame it on my AS and other factors that shame me.

Literally just reached the 2nd save point so still extremely early but I can feel already that this game won't have the same level of polish that Capcom would have for a Resident Evil game but so far it's gorgeous and the atmosphere is perfect. Can't wait to immerse myself in it after this weekend has passed.

Does anyone playing with the headset also hears the radio sound nearly only coming from the left cup ? Pretty annoying but that might be my headset fault..

I do 4-5 stomps aswell but they revive all the same.

Some dudes on reee had the same thing happening to them.

Some bodies just start twitching and randomly revive like the crimson fuckers in re rebirth.

I'm retarded?
Man i usually don't even notice rtx but in here i tried on\off in the very first walk you do in the corridor forest before reaching the actual city and the difference was pretty big.

Maybe inside the city the difference is ower but for now i'm keeping that shit on.

To counter the frame loss i have shadows on low, minimal difference but big frame gain, also AA off, dlss quality is still soft enough to not need any AA.

With RT on the vegetation gets a massive shadow boost, so much that it looks incredibly unrealistic, inside and outside. It makes no sense to cast so much AO. Reflections are better but the non-rt looks incredible as well so no point for those either. Only good thing about it is the light bounces which are more prominent than non-rt, however with RT on framedrops and stutters are all over the place, game is not optimized at all for RT and I had drops to sub 60 in certain places. If it had dlss frame-gen I might consider it, but as is, the game looks insane without.

Had to stop playing late last night at the hospital. Done the basement part (scary) and then the first nurse was terrifying, especially when it got back up after going down. Those two sections were very scary.

Which is unusual because the REmakes aren’t scary for me (originals were but not when they became third person shooters). This game is still scary and had has managed to make the SH2 monsters terrifying again.

This is one of the best paced games I’ve ever fucking played full stop

Also pro tip if you hold L2 aiming your gun and then hit R1 you’ll do a 180 and still keep the solid reticle. Good when in panic mode 😂

Nice tip! I actually noticed, unlike RE2 Remake, you keep the pinpoint reticule even while moving. It's simply based on how long you hold the aim button.

Extra pro-tip: you can change the reticule style in the options so it's *always* pinpoint, one of the first things I did, find the other reticules immersion breaking 👌

Done. Got the Leave ending. Very very good remake, atmosphere is really close to the original. The apartment building and hospital "other world" may be a bit much with the grossness. The characters are a mixed bag. James and Laura are fine, Maria and Angela not so much. New Eddie looks good, but is less whacky. But these are really minor issues, if I hadn't played the og a dozen times, I wouldn't care.

Playing this at ~2am this morning, lights out, headphones on, ultrawide filling up my peripheral vision as I tentatively explore Woodside Apartments...

Wife wakes up, wonders where I am, comes into the office and taps me on the shoulder.

Reminds me of a hot summer night, lights off, windows open, replaying the og. Big praying mantis lands on my neck.

It’s worse than that. After you get to a certain length in the game, enemies will react-spawn to you picking up stuff or facing enemies in certain situations.
Enemies will even spawn behind you!
Learn how to dodge and also keep in mind… if you start a melee animation, you can cancel into a dodge. That has helped me a ton. Even flesh lips cry when I enter the facility. 😎
That doesn't sound cheap at all :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Tbh the random health is more annoying than everything else because it make impossible to strategize during melee when enemies can randomly die after 5 hits or 6 or 7 or 8.

So weird you’re having this, Gym. I’m playing on hard and don’t have them coming back from the dead. I stomp them 3 times and move to the next one. Could it be a bug? I also don’t have this feeling of their health being random. Even if in a way that sounds kind of cool.

It's not a bug, other people on reee are having this thing.

And the enemies literally have a dedicated twitch animation when they are on the ground before getting up, it's just random so you can probably go hours without seeing one or you can have enemies reviving after 10 min or 1 hour or 30 sec.

I stomp them multiple times aswell, dead space thaught me well.

You don't have random health? So the same enemy type always die in a precise number of hit? Well it's not my experience, i can go from 4-5 hits to like 8 hits, i'm still just 2 hours in so i have like 2 enemy types available, not exactly hard to notice.

I finished the game, still don't know how they pull it off on AA budget, because i think cost of making this was probably the main reason Konami decided to hire them.
