The problem is really Master Chief. His story ended in 3 and then they brought him back and although I enjoyed Infinite, I lost interest in whatever Halo was trying to say after original trilogy.
Reminds me of Star Wars where every thread leads back to Skywalker.
They spent so much time and energy building out Halo's lore but the focus of every story is a human super soldier. Tell Halo stories not Master Chief stories.
I'm not even sure if they're trying to say anything anymore apart from keeping going
They had, imo, an interesting direction to go with after Halo 4, the reclaimer saga, the Forerunners vs Humanity as the Didact returned, eventually the second judgement of the Precursors in the Forerunner trilogy of books. And then they went and killed off the Didact (well it's unclear if they 100% did that, but years later I guess so) in a comic book of all things, and then restarted with the stupid Created rebellion plot, which they again unceremoniously dumped for Infinite which seemed to bring in new random villains "worse than the flood" we've never heard of before.
I'm not sure if there is still something they're trying to say, if there is still a "Halo bible" like Bungie legendarily had, or if it's just, we need a new Halo game, make a new Halo game, with almost no one who cares left in charge
