Skullgirls DLC Character Beowulf launches April 17 for PS3/360/PC

Never took much notice of this game. ...until now. Hyped to hear there is a vita release. I'll likely grab that version. Hope it gets a retail run.

Before fate decided to make Lab Zero its chewtoy they had plans (or rather, considered) for a physical release in japan when development of DLC was completed. Of course, that was when the DLC planned were Umbrella, Squigly, Black Dahlia and Mary. A complete story mode would have accompanied them as well.

So whats the current DLC char release plan from now on???
Kinda confused now after long time

Beowulf after two days, and then Robo Fortune is a couple of months (hopefully). After that this game will be more or less finished and L0 will move on to another game.

Neat to find what appears to be Fillia and that Ryu-ish and Bonus-kun-ish reference from that New Meridian stage IIRC, but the SNK fan in me is mildly ticked off that such a Terry Bogard-ish stage as a Ryu-alike in it instead.

Looking forward to see Beowulf's story mode, since I already messed around with him a bit in the Endless Beta version - he's the kind of character that seems to have nothing to do with the major events of the setting, but there have been interesting surprises in the past.

I've been wanting to write it, but it will definitely be the single largest thing I've ever written.

After working on this game for four years, it's pretty surreal. And I wasn't ever even supposed to be involved with it, outside of community management.
I'd be interested in hearing about the logistics for getting all the IGG rewards collected and sent out. Seems like something that trips up a lot of groups who do crowdfunding and there doesn't appear to be much written about the process.

Bad news, EU folk...

Just got word from SCEE that they've delayed it to the 24th.

No reason was given, there was no communication, and I don't know why they moved it a full week away when they could've moved it only a day or two.

As you know, we've consistently had problems with this sort of thing with SCEE, so I apologize for getting your hopes up when I probably should've known something like this would happen again.

That was definitely one of our biggest stumbling blocks, and we thought we were well-prepared for it.

The biggest mistakes we made were promising too much in the way of custom goods, and making goods that relied on the outcome of the campaign. Definitely going to be a section about that.

Fortunately I already anticipated such shenanigans from SCEE so this isn't actually much of a swerve.

It's just incredibly frustrating.

So apparently we can't trust their systems to give us correct dates. And they don't tell us when they can't do something or they change something. And they don't respond to e-mails.

I just don't understand how I'm supposed to do business with SCEE or plan anything under these circumstances.

I've been watching Euro players get owned by SCEE for years.
SCEA is not nearly as bad, but I've seen them make some questionable release choices...

(It must be nice as a developer to work with Steam where none of these shenanigans happen though)

You can try not airing your business frustrations in public, its bad enough every quote is blown out of proportion regardless of which company its about.. at least wait until after your product is on the market.

My duty, first and foremost, is to the people that funded this content. They are effectively our shareholders, and they deserve to know what's going on, both good and bad.

Additionally, SCEA listened to developer feedback and completely transformed itself for the better, and, I think, is a model for how 1st party should be. So I would also argue that developers not talking about things is why this stuff has gone on for as long as it has.

Are you seriously asking for less transperency with consumer and developer relations?

Only thing I'm worried about is that SCEE might give the devs the cold shoulder.

Also that thread of shame was lol worthy and educational.

For what it's worth, I'd say they already give the cold shoulder to everyone.

I've talked to devs at major publishers and indies alike that are like "Why does SCEE hate us so much? It seems like they really have it out for us."

This is just the way they are, I guess.

I know exactly how you feel. The studio I'm working with has cancelled the PS4 version of their games because of SCEE.

It's 11:08pm in California, meaning at that time all of the US is in the 17th so less than 1 hr to go before Beowulf!!

...unless they're waiting for the xbox/ps ones to go live first before they put it on steam, which would be terrible. /australianworldproblems

Finally, Beowulf's story mode is here!! Beo's personality was rather different to what I was expecting.

Like him being actually insane, speaking to the arm and stuff, visions of Grendel etc. Also his naivety/lack of judgement. Very cool, I thought he was going to be a callous and egocentric jerk when I first saw he was carrying around his opponents severed arm. I hope they explore his mental health issues more in the sequels.

Hell yea, so excited to try out Beowulf! Redownloading the PC version as we speak. The 3 wolf moon super was just icing on the cake on what will probably be my favorite character.

Just like all wrestlers

I'm bumping this thread to ask if any of you Euro PSN users found Beowulf.

I thought it was supposed to come out on the 24th? (today)...

One day I'll actually get good at this game.

Spoiler:
I won't get good at this game.

At the very least, I want to check out the new story modes for the DLC characters.

I'm not sure the store updates much outside of its weekly Wednesday update and if it does change things it tends to be sales related. Well I just had a look anyway and nothing so I'm guessing it falls into the next weekly update? but this is just me assuming things.

I am pretty livid about this...

They told us they delayed it to the 24th. Doesn't come out.

I go to check Sony's site, and it now says 6/05. Again, no reason given as to why there was a delay.

Obviously this is unacceptable, and we're escalating to get him out as soon as possible.

Just saw this post, thank you for the answer, Ravidrath!
But is it 6th of May or 5th of June? The American dates have a different format than here in EU. :p

Oh, put this on Twitter and FB, but forgot to put it here...

SCEE has confirmed that Beowulf will be released in the EU on May 5th.

I'm still skeptical, but they said it was happening.

Almost as embarrassing as the voting wars thread (once it all started).

My old salt wounds...they are reacting.

After checking out those other options, I think the devs were crazy to put in this new guy over D.Violet. Her design looks pretty awesome.
Still, they did add Eliza. She is one of the best looking characters there and the reason I plan to buy this game sometime soon (on Steam).

Im not suprized to see anyone complain about SCEE. They have a bad reputation in the DoA5 community for screwing up DLC's many times.
