SNES Mini Classic Hacking | More games, more borders, more gooder.

Since I decided to use this as more of a companion to my SD2SNES due to it's ablity to play the unsupported chip games along with the save state/rewind function SD2SNES lacks, I decided to load it up with all the unplayable games. But beyond that, I want to use it for playing games that lack a save function.

What are some good platformers and beat-em ups I can load up on it since there was a LOT of those on the SNES.

let me just say that you are all fantastic

any suggestions for some sort of overlooked obscure platformer to play tonight? Gonna snow and I want to chill by the tv with some hot cocoa and a random game.

Try the Addams Family game. It was one of the first SNES games I owned as a kid. Had some graphics and music that really blew me away. Game was TOUGH too. I haven't played it in YEARS though, so I'm not sure how well it holds up. You did say random and obscure though.

Alright guys, I have got all the English games I want right now and all the hacks for those games I want. What I want to know now is what JPN only SNES games should I get? I want the best of the best and they gotta have a translation. Any recommendations?

This thread has all you need...sadly I haven’t been able to get the Zelda clone by Aonuma that’s pretty high on the list working yet...got no to try retroarch http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1441427&page=100000

Thank you! I am a total noob and scared that I will break my precious SNES Classic.

Honestly, if you follow the instructions you won't have any problems. The only thing I got stuck for a while was when trying to Sync the games as I thought I had to turn on the SNES Mini holding down Reset and that wouldn't work. You only have to hold Reset when you're flashing the console at the beginning. Once the console is haxed, you can turn it on and off normally to add and sync games.

Good luck!

Doesn't SD2SNES support all the extra chips?

I'm a little bit confused about running NES games on the SNES. So I loaded up the SMB trilogy and Super Mario Frustration, and from what I understand, it seems like the emulator from the NES Classic is running the NES games, so there's no borders, no rewind, support for CRT/4:3/PP, and support for save states after reset. But pressing Start+Select also opens the RetroArch menu. What's going on here? Can I assume that RetroArch is the core responsible and also allows save states natively in the GUI, but not for other things like N64?

So I installed the no thumbnails module and now when I push down+select there is a longer wait to get to home screen. Did the no thumbnails module do that?

I've been having a blast playing with this, I'm really impressed at how well Retroarch is integrated into the existing UI for those problem games.

That said what are the best settings in RA to get a 4:3 mode without scaling artefacts?

Ah thanks, I actually decided to stop being lazy and made one myself for anyone interested.

Added some of Robin's frames, used the info in here to make CRT stay CRT but added scanlines with no blur to 4:3 and Pixel Perfect.

Feeling good. Can't wait to keep tinkering around.

Is there any way to improve the framerate in Star Fox and Star Fox 2?

Not really, the game's speed is tied to performance/frame rate. So, while you can apply a command line argument to Star Fox 1 that will improve the frame rate, it will also speed up the game. I think the command line argument is -fx-boost 2

It doesn't speed up the game in the way a standard clockspeed would, it gives it more overhead so there are less slowdowns but the internal "timing" is as it should be.

100% do this, it changed everything about how enjoyable SF1/2 are.

Doesn't it mess with Yoshi's Island? I forget. Also, would this be done in the global command line arguments since we can't do the original 21?

It does mess with Yoshi's Island if you do it in a global argument. You could hide SF1/2 and readd the roms to the list manually so that you can apply game specific arguments to them.

I will need a step-by-step guide for dummies to do this.

So.. uhhh.. a red light is on. The OP says no lights should be on. Does it mean that no light should be on just when you are pressing reset when booting up or afterwards too?

Just at the start. Don't freak out and pull plugs or anything crazy like that.

Aint followed it (yet) myself but it seems to explain everything you need to know :
https://www.reddit.com/r/miniSNESmods/comments/751rhw/new_user_step_by_step_guide_to_installing_hakchi/

Just read over it, seems like a pretty good guide. Once you unzip the retroarch cores, paste them all into the user_mods subfolder within your hakchi folder. I originally just pasted it into the hakchi folder and spent 6 hours figuring out I'd done it wrong. Also, make sure you put the --retroarch command line argument AT THE END of the command line argument for each game that you are having problems with. Not knowing this also wasted an hour of my life.

Are there good fan translations for the SNES Fire Emblems yet? Including for the menus?

There is a recent translation of Fire Emblem 4 that's technically still in beta, but it's basically done. Highly recommended (and my favorite FE).

Yeah this, I added this to my SNES Mini earlier and played through the prologue. Seemed to be fine.

You need to use Retroarch for it to work though. Doesn't boot otherwise as far as I'm aware.

Well, I left things alone until today, but with stuff here being fairly well settled (thanks Robin for all of your work with this) I just put most of the SNES games that I had wanted to put on here (although I'm sure I forgot a few), and boxarts, and am safely under the size limit - 61 titles, 127.1MB / 191.1MB. I'll probably post my list tomorrow. For right now I'm just playing around with some of them. I really, really love the interface of this. Just a really spectacularly put-together system here.

Not sure what I did wrong, but installing retroarch killed the sound on my SNES mini.

I loaded the original kernel and I guess I’ll try again.

The game has an internal frame limiter, sure, but the cutscene timing and game balance are based on the original Super FX clock speed, so you are absolutely speeding up the game compared to what the designers intended.

But anyway, if you want the game to run perfectly, use the flags -no-lowlatency and -fx-boost 8. It won't slow down at all.

So I read that some people were having problems using hakchi2 with windows 10. i am not entirely sure, if it was really the fault of windows though.

Is it recommended to use an older windows version with the tool or does it make no difference?
