SNES Mini Classic Hacking | More games, more borders, more gooder.

Best to only do it for Starfox, but that will mean you need to add it as a custom game and untick the stock one.

Apologies for another question, I'm keeping the original 21 games plus I've added my own, including Starfox 1.2 , so I can add the command line "-boost-fx 8 -no-lowlatency"

Does this work as in it will show me 2 Starfoxes in the menu, and I could add a BOOST to the artwork to differentiate it?

edit - and rename it Star Fox Boost

You can hide the built-in Star Fox. Just click on Original Games in the games list and then untick Star Fox on the list that appears on the right. Then resync to save the changes to the device.

Though if you really want the original there as well then sure, go ahead and rename the second one as Star Fox Boosted or similar.

Thanks, what about having two in the list with seperate names?

edit - coolsies, will try and report.

They will have the same ID, though, assuming you used the method I described in the OP about adding these games as custom games.

Which won't be a huge problem but will have the interesting quirk that save states will be shared between the two versions.

I think saves only work if the game folder and the game ID are the same. Or something like that. When I was trying to get Ancient Stone Tablets working, I tried using the same ID but changing the folder name for the second, third and fourth ROMs, and only the first one would save until I put them in separate subfolders so the folder names could be the same as well.

I'm extremely insecure with how much f2p mobile games are encroaching on Nintendo
Street Fighter 2 and Mega Man X added. I'm fast running out of series that come with the SNES Mini.

Is there a way to have certain borders load with certain games automatically? Like any mega man game loads up a set mega man border?

Is there a hard limit on the number of borders you can add?

Maybe. Maybe not. If you are curious just put a 100 folders in there.
They take up 1-2 MB space each tho.

Messing around with making borders and made an SNES box one

Beautiful. One thing: Your whole folder is over 4 MB heavy although the border is very minimalistic. Which is a lot with less then 300 MB space for everything. Your "boxart_4_3" file is 53 KB, but your "boxart_pixel_perfect" which has the same resolution is over 3,5 MB!

Link is here if anyone wants to try it out

This is definitely one of the ones I’m going to be using. Great job.

To those making custom borders: I personally think it would look best to create borders where the artwork isn’t cut off by the middle screen. Focusing on borders with images and artwork that fits within the dimensions would look best, imo. I’d love to see some takes that keep this in mind.

Other mis. things:

1. Can someone make a custom boxart for Fire Pro Wrestling X?

2. What are some games that still have issues, even when using Retroarch?

3. Can someone post instructions on how to get Retroarch working (and how to add games to it)?

4. Anyone using the Secret of Mana font width patch? I’m trying it out, and the only issue I’m seeing is that text on the menu screen (such as when naming your character and looking at stats) is blurry, while all NPC and other outside text is fine. Is there a way to fix this, or is this the same issue plaguing other games?

5. Live A Live has a real neat premise, but I’m not sure if I’m feeling the gameplay: I gave the Ninja storyline a shot first, and I’m frustrated how there’s no real way to tell the difference between an enemy you can beat versus one that will one shot you in an instant. Between that and checking for secret doors to advance, the whole thing feels a bit arbitrary even by classic RPG standards.

In regards to the other JPN exclusive Square games, how would you rank them?

6. Did the people who made Metal Warriors also work on Cybernator, or plagirized them? I never played either game, but I’m surprised how similar they are to both concept and gameplay. They might as well be sequels.

7. Yo, Hagane is rad. How did this pass me by? I would love marked all over it as a kid.

8. What do you consider to be the best competitive Tetris game? Same question for other non-fighting games that feature 2 player competitions.

I asked a question a few pages back with no response so I am going to try again,

Does anyone know what is different with this emulator that causes the 4:3 to exhibit less artifacting when scrolling considering it is a non-integer scale? DF Retro's review specifically calls out this advantage. Is this a setting on the SNES mini or just the design of the emulator itself?

Also, what is the status on disabling the epilepsy filter? When I last had the program up it was a greyed out option. Has this been included in any recent revisions, or do we know if this is something that will be coming any time soon?

Thanks!

This is because the edges of the pixels in 4:3 have a little softening applied to them which you don’t even notice but it gets rid of shimmer when scrolling. The NES Mini didn’t have this.

Got Street Fighter alpha 2 working after 30+ minutes of trial and error. Simple...had to move the rom into the folder, then move it to the batch file. Now where is the guy so I can properly tha-

On Konami games (well atleast Turtles in Time and Tournament Fighters) I notice the audio kinda skips a bit. Is there a fix for this, and is this a generally known issue? Or is it just my SNES classic?

I don't know if anyone tried this game yet, but Space Megaforce has some weird sound peak at each bass drum hits, which is basically once per second. :lol

Guess I'll remove it.

As far as I can tell, GBAtemp were being their usual entitled selfish selves, which has caused many a dev to leave that cesspit in the past. Entire projects have been canned because of those guys.

Heh, going by the code it looks like they cheated by still displaying all thumbnails but making them transparent. Which I guess has the desired effect.

That's what I did with my setup :p

At least now I won't have to manually change each thumbnail to a blank PNG every time I modify a game's icon.

Sorry if already asked but I have a question : each save state takes 2 mb. So If I have 10 mb left I will be able to have 5 save states? But does the in-game saves count? If I don't leave any space will I be able to save my games "normally" (at least those who have a save system of course) despite not being able to make save states and rewind?

3a) Optional, but recommended if you aren't doing too many games. Go to Settings, Pages/Folders Structure and pick Disable. ("Too many games" means 63 or more. SNES Mini crashes if you have that many)

So, I didn't do this during initial setup. Can I still do it now without any issues?

Other people have said things that contradict this, but in my experience Star Fox 2 will completely ignore your -boost-fx command line argument unless you modify the preset ID. Also, it seems the SNES CPU is a much bigger bottleneck in Star Fox 2, so no matter what you set it to, the game isn't going to run super fast.

If I'm right and it doesn't work for you, the modification that I made to make it work was changing the value in the Star Fox 2 .sfrom file at 0x0010003d from 46 to 47. I don't know if this has any other side effects, but I have played through the game a few times after doing this and it works fine.

Thanks a lot for the tip!

Yes, you can change the option at any time and resync the new setup.

I wonder if the second batch of NES Minis will include the improved 4:3 mode.

Hey, didn't even notice the difference in file sizes lol, I'll try to get the PP one down and repost it. I can do any requests anyone has as well.

Edit: Updated one is HERE (128kb now!) I updated my original post as well.
