So did Resident Evil PSP become Resident Evil Revelations for 3DS?

Yes, Revelations was originally a PSP game that was moved over to the 3DS. Wasn't Mercenaries 3D or Operation Raccoon City.

... Are you being sarcastic or serious? I really can't tell. If the latter, I'll take your word for it.

I watched the gameplay trailer. Looked PSP-ish and lacks party members. Not that I care about graphics in a Kingdom Hearts game.

edit: maybe it was just that trailer in particular. Didn't look like I expected it.

edit 2: why is it so ugly in this video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqIi5Zb3x8Q

I have no idea how someone fucked up that video that bad but it's a product of the recording.

KH3D does have party members in the form of collectable companion monsters.

Jump Festa trailer, includes both cutscenes and gameplay.

KH3D is ugly enough to be a PSP game, IMO.

Well I guess you think KH2 looks like a PSP game because 3D looks pretty much exactly the same

Oh okay. That video was the first footage I saw of it so my opinion was clearly wrong. Looks really nice :D

I can't help but wonder if you're trolling us if you're really using a video where even the HUD elements are blurry and having compression artifacts as an example of the game looking ugly...

Someone made a thread for the video, so I assumed that was what the game looked like. Sorry if I hurt your feelings :(

Where is RE 1.5 floating around? Why are you holding out on us?

This. REVEAL YOUR SECRET, CARTRIDGE BLOWER. REVEAL IT. :|

Also if Bio:Portable really is Bio: Raccoon City I'm going to choke a Capcom for that tease. Socom PSP wasn't that good so an offshoot like that on the PSP while the DS got a Bio1 port that was pretty good would be an awful troll.

Maybe it's just Resident Evil 1-3 being rereleased on PSN?

Hey, that makes RE portable since you can play it through PSP (and PS3). :p

I didn't know Youtube got banned on the US already.

I think both RE:Rev and KH3d both started out on the PSP, but got shifted to 3DS because of poor software sales.

Nope. This is 100% factually untrue. KH3D did not start out on the PSP because the team was just finished with BbS when Nintendo presented S-E with the 3DS dev kits. Nomura and the Osaka team then put together a tech demo for KH on the 3DS in 3 months, just like Kojima Productions did for MGS3, just in time for the E3 presentation.

At the same time Nomura came up with the story and design doc for KH3D while the team was working on finishing up BbS Final Mix and Re:Coded. KH3D was always designed from ground up to be a 3DS game which would ship about 2 years after BbS.

So, if it was, how far along was it? RE Revelations seems pretty polystarved, masked with shaders and effects. Looks great in its current/final state. It's not entirely unreasonable for it to have been a PSP game at some point.

If Vita gets an RE game it'll be a port of ORC, or Revelations.

That's how Capcom rolls.

It'll be Biohazard Portable Revival Selection, featuring CODE: Veronica and Biohazard 4. :p

(I would actually like this to happen, but not at the expensive of an original game...)

Gah, I'm still mad Capcom's lazy shit sold better than a good effort (plus better games) from Konami in Japan.

Eh, the game is clearly way above the PSP's best (Peace Walker, Crisis Core, Monster Hunter and clones including PE, Birth by Sleep, etc, nevermind most of these took place in tiny completely segmented areas separated by loading points or in way too barren environments) in every way but sure, the game was complete, got ported to 3DS, and had some shaders added, lol.

Naw, you would never model like that if you didn't plan to use shaders and effects mapping to create the final look. If this was targetted for PSP, you would have done the graphics totally different, this isn't just a matter of them having slathered extra textures over a "poly-starved" game (plus, the fillrate for PSP is pretty astounding even today; I've never considered polygon shortage to be the PSP's problem.) Also, there had been no previous PSP games using MT Framework Portable.

It's possible that the Resident Evil PSP concept got turned into RE Revelations (though I like the rumor that RE Raccoon City was the converted project instead,) but if it was, it was most likely a fresh start with the engine.

Came to post "No way!" but then...

Interesting, wouldn't have though that'd be the case.

Hell no there isnt. Lol, Software sales would be the last of Capcoms complaints for their PSP lineup IMO. MH was literally that large.
But what has MH to do with this? RE and DMC rely on western sales to a good extent and these are and were basically non-existent on PSP.

The PSP Resident Evil was going to be a light gun game. You know, as a "test"
No, no the lightgun games come after passing the "test".

I'm skipping Revelations on 3DS, waiting for Vita port.

Yeah, I went there.

And I was all excited for PSP RE for nothing....
Depending on how the sales of PSV (esp. software) in the west develop you might be excited for nothing again.

MHF Unite on PSP shipped more than 400k in the west, you don't think an early DMC, and RE in PSP's life cycle would've done well?

Console series entries on PSP generally did pretty poorly in the west.

I just gave you an example of a Capcom console series doing pretty well on PSP... If they tailored RE and DMC into something like Crisis Core, I don't see why they couldn't have been successful early on in the PSP's life.

I agree for the most part. I'm mostly curious about how it all went down. All I'm really saying is that if someone said assets from the PSP version were used in Revelations, I wouldn't be surprised. I'm not saying the PSP is nearly as powerful as the 3DS, only that they're in the same ballpark. I mean like how the PS2 and Xbox were, but one produced better looking games. Almost want to use GTA3 PS2 to Xbox as an example. Randomish comment: the nicer looking PSP game also had rubbish frame rates; peace walker and god of wars hovered in the 20s.
