So I bought a gamecube...

So this week I was at my local gameshop and I see they had a clearence on refurbished GC's directly from Nintendo, so I said what the hell 30$ for a cube can't hurt. So I picked it up along with a couple of remotes and a couple of memory cards and game. Ended up costing me about 130$ for everything which is pretty good keeping in mind that my local EB has the console new for $119.99CAD.

Now as for games I got stuff from the bargin bin, Mario Sunshine, Smash Bros, Project N03, Metriod, Metal Gear:TTS, and Smugglers Run.

Thus far I've been having a lot of fun with the GC, good load times, a lot of cool games with friends. Now I need to know, what are the "Must HAVE" Gamecube games besides RE4?, I'm going to wait for the PS2 version. I already beat Mario Sunshine which was "alright" but I expected more. Any good platformers? RPG's?

Thats for the input guys.

Multiplayer Smuggler's Run is one of the most underrated bits of gaming this gen I think. My friends and I had an absolute blast doing 4-player in it.

cool, problem is I haven't even broken the seal on the game case so it's in mint condition I guess next weekend when I have some friends over we'll give it a whirl.

:D

No offense but you waiting for the PS2 version and you already have a Cube is one of the most obtuse things I've ever heard on here. I would ask you why but something tells me I don't want to know.

Anyway here's a list of games I liked on my Cube.

RE:Remake
Eternal Darkness
Wind Waker
F-Zero GX
Viewtiful Joe
Phantasy Star Episode III
Tales of Symphonia
Baten Kaitos
Paper Mario

er, why are you waiting for the ps2 version of re4? also check out both monkey ball games and pikmin 2.

Yeah this game is a scream-fest in multiplayer. The physics are nuts and you slide all over the place in the mud. Wrecking into each other, stealing the flag, and trying to get it back to base without being smashed into again is impossible. Every run comes down to the last possible moment when you think you're safe and then BAM somebody jacks your shit and gets the cap. It's awesome.

Waiting cause I of... well... more content, I'm the kinda guy that has to have a "complete" version of the game. So if there is exclusive content for the PS2 version I'd rather have that then spending 50-60$ now and then another 60$ a couple of months later for the same game with just more stuff.

Is Metriod Prime 2 any good? Also Baten Kaitos? friends have been recommending those 2

Couple Months? I'm thought the PS2 version was hitting in November.

I don't need your gamecube fanboy comments, that's not the point of this thread.

My advice is to rent RE4. Try gamefly or go to blockbuster. That way you can check it out now, and then own it later.

Just buy RE4, it's worth purchasing twice if you must :rolleyes

Jeezz! Like zombies you guys are... I'm not a graphics whore so I don't care about how the damn game looks, only how it plays, I talk to my friends who has RE4 and they say there's a lot of slow downs and it doesn't run at full frames all the time especially during parts with a lot of action/ characters on screen. I've waited this long to play it I can wait another couple of months for a port.

Metroid Prime:Echoes
Eternal Darkness
REmake
RE 0
RE 4
Rogue Leader
Ikaruga
F-Zero GX
Mario Tennis & Golf
Viewtiful Joe 1 & 2
Pikmin 2
Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2
Baten Kaitos
Tales of Symphonia

You think the ps2 version will be smoother?

you're friend ain't telling the truth. plus it's coming out in a year, not a "couple of months".

who the fuck said anything about graphics? certainly not the two of us who you quoted! also, your friends are fucking idiots. if there is any slowdown, i haven't seen it yet.

Apparently youve come across some wrong information. In no ways is the PS2 port coming out in a "couple months". Capcom said last quarter of 2005. I don't know if this is going to affect your purchase but 10 months is not equal to a "couple".

Wait. Why would you wait for an inferior port?

Get Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg! Best GC platformer IMO! Circuit City has it for super cheap right now. Hatcher get! Lalalallalalalallallallllaaaaaaaalllalalalalllaaaaallalaalalalal

Don’t kill me for saying blasphemous things about RE4 but I wasn’t planning on getting it at Australian launch because I could get Ninja Gaiden and beyond good and evil for less. Why buy a new game when you can work on your backlog first? Still I might be getting RE4 at launch depends on how much cash I have.

Did you get the original release or Player's Choice of Metroid (Prime)?

All the games I bought a original release, and 5 of them were sealed. Smash Brothers was the only opened copy, but again no players choice crap, it was more expensive for the sealed versions of the players choice lol.

I'll wait for an "inferior port" BECAUSE I WANT TO THATS WHY!

If you're looking for 'Must have' games, and you JUST bought a Cube, the notion of you NOT picking up RE4 is beyond me.

At least give it a rent, it is a stellar game that must be played as soon as one can have the chance.

All the games previously mentioned + Animal Crossing.

Top GC Games in my book are:

Metroid Prime/Echoes
Skies of Arcadia Legends
Resident Evil 4
Wind Waker

kind of like you'll argue about it because you want to, rather than offering up some sort of compelling rationale? welcome to GAF!

note: the nintendo kids on this forum will make you hate your life. they're starting to succeed in making me shudder at the mention of the word "nintendo", which is just kind of sad. then again, i'm not sure nintendo's really presently helping much to stave that off.

back on topic: i really enjoyed star fox assault recently, but i'm not so sure it's worth $50 for everyone. you mentioned friends who want to come over and (presumably) don't mind splitscreen, so you'll get some mileage out of the multi. i really enjoyed the single player, but it's on the short side (~5 hrs.) it's got a real epic feel, though, with variety and some clever, fun design. rent it, anyway.

Splitscreen is no problem on the 62" screen it's connected to, I heard Mario Party 5-6 was good with a lot of people, can anyone confirm this?

I've been wanting to play Ikaruga since the DC days but never got a chance. Is it still possible to find it? or is it one of those rare games ?

You know your dead right?

:lol This is getting out of hand. We got people thinking we'll make them pay hell if they don't buy RE4 ASA.F**kin.P.

Awesome but at times frustrating strictly Multiplayer only games. May have limited single player appeal but you will be over it in days.

I wouldn’t recommend the game if your going to play lots of 2 player but with 3 or 4 players it shines.

Birds of a feather huh.... well I trust the opinion of people who have had a gamecube longer then I have, 2 of my buddys told me there's slowdowns when there's a lot of action on screen and I believe him because neither of them have wronged me. Mind you they both love the game, I'm not a big RE fan like the rest of the board seems to be.

As for the graphc whore comment it was not directed to you, it was directed to the post that Mr. Grump posted, it just didn't get quoted for some reason, JACKASS.

I'll rent the game first... In a couple of months.

Your buddies have bad eyes, or they like to exaggerate. There is very little, if any, slowdown.

The complete version vs the better version?

Besides graphics what would be the difference between a GC version and PS2 version besides the graphics and more content on one then the other?. I don't see why waiting for a COMPLETE game is so bad. Also why are you stating the GC is a better version? How would you know without playing another version to compare it with.

I'd like to know what your definition of "complete" is, because how is the GC version incomplete? RE4 has been delayed many times on the GC to make it as complete as it is, and if the devs felt that the game was somehow lacking in any way I have no doubts that they would have delayed it again. The creators of the game didn't even WANT to make a PS2 version. Do you realize any of this?

It's not so much everyone's a RE fan as much as they're a RE4 fan. Kinda like how people put down TTS and MGS2, but LOVE Snake Eater.

Maybe he wants to play as Tofu or something

RE4 has a ridiculous amount of content. I couldn't be bothered by anything short of an extra chapter, which is unlikely. Buy the GC version, rent the PS2 version.

lots of slow downs
Really? They said that? Any slowdown I've experienced has been few and far between + negligible.

As complete I don't mean main story. I mean extras, I enjoy a game that has replay value with different characters, more items, extra areas to explore. Thats what I mean by complete. As for what the creators want or didn't want to do I personally don't give a shit, if there was no PS2 version I'd buy it for GC now but since there's one coming... I'll wait.

This thread has gone way off topic with all the RE Fanaticism.
