So what exactly is Destiny?

It's the beta + more worlds/missions + a raid. In old russia there were gated areas you'll unlock.

The endgame will be: Beating the hard bosses for the first time, grinding for gear, and doing MP arenas.

The first expansion in December will probably give mp maps, another raid, better gear, and missions.

Fixed.

It's a strike not a raid.

Strikes are for 3 players and Raids are for 6 players.

That sounds kind of silly, to be honest. Publisher tout nearly every prominent game as THE NEXT BIG THING IN [GENRE]. You'd have to be really credulous to actually believe it.

The fact of the matter is that Destiny's been at two E3s and received a massive public Alpha and Beta. People acting like they have no idea what kind of game it is... That's just bizarre.

Almost all publishers tout their prominent games AS THE NEXT BIG THING.

How is it Bungie's fault that it's not what you expected it to be? It's a solid Bungie shooter and that's good enough for me.

Not every game needs to be innovative.

Hell, nobody gave a shit about Destiny till the Alpha came out.

This is Bungie we're talking about. People have a bit higher expectations on them than the average dev. So when they come out and say that the next thing they're making is gonna be something completely new and revolutionary you get certain expectations. And in my opinion Destiny doesn't live up to what they hyped it up as.

Bungie hasn't done anything utterly groundbreaking in quite a while. Halo assembled a bunch of ideas that already existed within a genre and pulled them off with an extremely high level of panache that left a lasting impression on people, but it didn't reinvent first person shooters.

Destiny, likewise, is bringing together a mix of ideas that people are already somewhat familiar with and executing them with their characteristic level of polish. It's only a disappointment if you have completely unreasonable expectations for it. (Which, admittedly, the over-the-top marketing campaigns aren't helping with, but that's not entirely Bungie's fault.)

To be clear, I don't take issue with people being disappointed, and I understand most of their reasons for feeling that way. I just think it's strange when people dismiss the game as if everyone else shares their lack of enthusiasm, when the alpha and beta surprised a lot of people and got them very interested when they were only vaguely aware of the game before.

Like Orayn said, Halo wasn't even revolutionary. It was a bunch of ideas tied to together to a well-designed shooter. At the time it was released, Halo just happened to be a shooter that felt tight to play in a console. I don't need to say more because Orayn already said what I had in mind.

Off-topic, but if I don't see some of you in Destiny's OT when it comes, I'll be disappointed.

It's Borderlands 2 with more people and an optional VS. mode. People who tell you otherwise can't see it for what it is. That doesn't make it bad either.

Its Borderlands without the cool RPG aspects (fully fleshed skill system for starters) and open world, with standard PvP multiplayer, and a really, really crappy hub area with extremely limited NPC interactions.

Wait, why have I preordered the Digital CE again?

:x

How can you say that when you didn't completely unlock all talents in standard subclasses nor given out the option to try the other subclasses (Bladedancer Hunter, Firesinger Warlock, Defender Titan) which you will do that in the final game?

If anything, Bladedancer, Firesinger and Defender subclasses will bring some interesting things for combat scenarios as Firesinger is a buff+revive subclass while Defender is a shielding+buff subclass.

As for Bladedancer... well...

The game isn't even out.

Destiny is the fourth dimension and a measure in which events can be ordered from the past through the present into the future, and also the measure of durations of events and the intervals between them.

Don't you know, the beta was the whole game. This game doesn't have enough content. /s

I dunno, were Halo: Reach and Bungie/Activision partnership so bad to the point it soured people's respect to Bungie for good? I'm genuinely asking in that regard.

Reach was a pretty big slap in the face of long time Halo fans, but I think they've mostly gotten over that.

Hell, Destiny's PVP is a lot like Reach, and I enjoyed it, but didn't really care for Reach even though I played an ass ton of matches.

So you've played the whole thing? Tell me how the raid works I'm dying to know? Or how end game pvp sorts out with all those extra talents? How does the titan bubble shield match up against other specials in PvE and pvp?

Yeah. You're way out of bounds here.

I feel that sometimes during a generational shift, there is a lack of a large amount of quality titles to choose in a variety of genres. Some games can come along during this time that fill a missing genre gap and gather a large amount of gamer hype due to circumstances beyond the quality of the game. Especially if they have large budgets and push into new areas not yet explored on the new systems.

Don't get me wrong, I played the beta and enjoyed it. I preordered the digital version based on the assumption there will be a large amount of content that we never saw during the beta (definitely not for the PVP). Due to a lack of new AAA current generation titles, I'm probably anticipating playing it more than I would otherwise. I really hope it exceeds my expectations.

If I was still playing exclusively on the last generation though, I probably would have waited for a price drop.

Reach is good and it is one of my favourite FPS.

I do not see any problem about Reach : /

It's a game that places a heavy emphasis on co-op, and that's good enough for me. I feel that really good co-op experiences are lacking in our current gaming age.

Only seen videos, but one thing that stuck out to me is all the menu navigation being done with a free floating cursor you move around with the analog stick..? Do I have that right? Just

180px-WHY.jpg

Can you not move the cursor and snap to each icon/selection with the dpad? It looks like it makes all the menu navigation painfully slow. In a loot game like this where you're probably going to be in a menu as much as anything else (and a game without a pause button I'm assuming), managing inventory and skills, it needs to be as snappy as possible.

100% agree. I have no idea why they thought that would be a good idea. At least let us make use of the DS4 trackpad.

It's more like Defiance with fewer people, fewer player interactions and set in a much smaller world (the San Francisco Bay Area might just end up being bigger than a few planets combined, now THAT'S some space magic).

It definitely wasn't as fun as Borderlands imo

That's funny, after many hours of playing, I was burned out on Borderlands.

I played like 23 hours on the beta and I still want to play more. If Destiny can hold me till October (For Driveclub) or November (For Halo MCC along with Assassin's Creed Unity and Far Cry 4), that'll be good enough for me.

Wasnt there some thing I read a while back where if you dont have any friends you cant play with other people because there will be no matchmaking?

That's the Raid, my friend.

PvP and Strikes have matchmaking. Though I never used them a lot in the beta considering they have join-in-progress in them.

No. The only times where you gonna see third person is whenever using supers (Player's character special abilities), riding a vehicle, or strolling through the Tower (the hub)

Such a shame. I was interested in this game. But I can't play first person view games at all, without having to puke.

Its a Shooter with coop-elements, just that simple. I loved the beta (which is huge since i abandoned the FPS genre in 2004 due to no innovation), but the game is no more than a polished shooter you played 100s before. I do look forward to it, because i haven´t played a FPS for a long time. And it pretends to have some RPG elements which makes it more yammy to my taste.

Not only that, but all of that PR fluff didn't even matter. The game had practically muted hype until the Alpha hit. It's done far better for itself once it was playable, not through its PR campaign.

Amazing that $500m doesn't get you effective marketing these days, even Bungie has admitted their messaging with Destiny was off; it's been terribly managed marketing wise up to this point.

Oh and to everyone saying it's our own fault for getting hyped up? Yeah, not with things like this coming out when information was still sparse on the game after its reveal, and they were promising explorable galaxies, and the definition of "shared world shooter" was still quite nebulous.
