So what exactly is Destiny?

Off-topic, but if I don't see some of you in Destiny's OT when it comes, I'll be disappointed.

You'll be disappointed if a bunch of people who don't seem to like the game, and as a result probably didn't buy it, don't flood the OT with their (very likely) still negative opinions on it?

From all of your posts I've read in regards to Destiny so far, you're never very happy to hear about anyone not enjoying it, so this seems like a weird thing for you of all people to say.

Negative feedback regarding the game are welcome if you don't act like a snob towards people who like it (Like Sandy Nipples did) or rather elaborate that feedback in order for Bungie to change things for the better.

I feel that there's a difference between people giving out negative feedback in a constructive way and people giving out negative feedback just to stir the pot. If someone said a game is boring and doesn't say why it feel that way for him, it doesn't contribute to the discussion. It's like someone just want to get some attention. And I feel that people not understanding why others like things they don't confuse me. There's no need to understand, you didn't like it, others did.

And yes, I'm well aware of my Destiny fanboyism and I don't deny it. If people hate me for it, so be it.

Actually, I'll be disappointed if the OT is just Destiny-loving circle jerk. I'm sure there will be people criticizing some stuff about Destiny, and I'm sure Bungie, sooner or later, will change some stuff in accordance to their fan feedback.

Great point.

What did you expect. Your post could be boiled down to "not Halo so I hate it" but instead you just danced around with vague comments about "special sauce."

Not sure why you think it's "sad" that Bungie didn't want to crank out more Halo games for the next 10 years, either.

If you played the Beta, you got a very good grasp on the gameplay. Obviously, there is going to be more to do and level caps higher than what we hit in the Beta along with the strike and raid missions. I believe this game will be worth the 60 bucks I plopped down at GameStop and this is coming from someone who is not going to the Crubicle even once.

The worlds look great, the movement is fluid and intuitive with your avatar and there appears to be some pretty decent challenges in beating the higher level enemies. The sparrow works well for fast travel and it has enough loot and gear options to keep you going for a while. It's going to be a fun game, I think.

That said, it is not pulling at me as much as Bloodborne or a possible Fallout 4. I am more excited for them as well as for Far Cry 4 and AC Unity. That doesn't mean this won't be a fun play and a chance to go do some great coop with some friends. It's not the Second Coming, it won't cure cancer but it should have no problem keeping the Dualshock in my hands every day after work for a while and get me talking about it with friends. That is all I expect it to do: Be fun to play.

If it can hold people's interest to playing the game for at least a month or two (Since the big hitters are coming at November and October is pretty packed), that should be good enough, right?

There's also the first DLC pack coming at December which caused people to question the release, but who knows. Maybe the first DLC pack is as good contrary to some people's beliefs.

That's what I'm buying Destiny for, it will be a great stopgap between now and when Advanced Warfare and AC Unity come out. Then those two games should hopefully carry me through well into the new year.

I get that constructive criticism is valuable, but I'm guessing that those you're referring to with that line are they same people you allude to when you say that they simply state "it's boring". If someone is currently claiming that they were bored by the beta, then chances are they're not going to buy the full game for $60 on release... so their criticisms are unlikely to be worth significantly more then, than they are currently.

With that said. I do think a lot of the people who claim that the beta bored them have actually explained why. The most common points tend to be poor narrative, repetitive respawning enemies, contextless sidequests, inability to communicate properly with strangers etc. That they don't append these reasons to every post they make on the topic, doesn't mean that they don't explain them. Much like many of your positive posts don't contain the reason you think it's great.

You're right. Sometimes my positive Destiny posts don't have a reason why I think it's great.

And yes, some people who made negative feedback explained their reasons why it wasn't a great experience for them.

Like I said, people are well aware of my fanboyism to Destiny and I don't even deny it. However, I feel that I should stop doing being a fanboy at some point and being rather level-headed whenever I discuss with other people regarding the game. All in good time, I hope.

I do not know why there are so many negative Destiny comment.

When people do not like thing they usually skip it or ignore it.

I never post negative comment in Assassin Creed thread even I do not like it. Why people always come into Destiny thread to state that I do not like this.

Because some people have expectations and were excited, those expectations weren't met and so disappointment ensues; I doubt they'd be very quiet afterwards.

As opposed to not being interested from the start, were those people probably wouldn't say anything.

Not that I approve it, but Bungie kinda overpromised stuff in some of their games before release (Like Halo 3 is gonna like the reveal which never did).

I think anyone who was interested in the game had realistic expectations wouldn't be disappointment at all.

Hell, I was interested since the reveal, and despite some criticisms I had regarding the beta, I still had fun with it.

Well from my perspective at least, Halo 3 was a sequel going in I expected the same stuff really, Destiny after all the chest beating from Bungie and Activision putting it money where Bungie's mouth was, I expected a lot more.

is like a MMO
but designed for multiplayer, not really for single player people

not my type of game.. but I did buy it for my brother

the type of game I would like is Fallout 4 yeah single player and the next elder scrolls game.. sigh I might be waiting FOREVER for either of those

That's funny, after many hours of playing, I was burned out on Borderlands.

I played like 23 hours on the beta and I still want to play more. If Destiny can hold me till October (For Driveclub) or November (For Halo MCC along with Assassin's Creed Unity and Far Cry 4), that'll be good enough for me.
Destiny might be more fun once me & mate play co-op in it like Borderlands that's where the fun is.

It's only overhyped if you didn't play the beta.

By the way some people post here, I can see them being mad when Destiny breaks sales (And it will. It's not a matter of if, it's matter of when).

Wrong. I played it and it bored me to death.

Bungie has been forthcoming about it being a connected co-op experience. If you're only in it to play solo, you can get pretty bored.

I solo'd the shit out of the beta (apart from matchmade strikes and pub events) and loved it (and I put crazy hours into it). It's not an either-or argument.

I'll admit, it was a bad retort.

But if you ask me, I don't see Destiny overhyped as fuck.

You wouldn't. You're in the centre of the bubble. From the outside I can totally see why people think that. Mainstream media is over it (cough Newsweek), gaming sites are creaming over it (IGN) and the ads are nuts at this point.

I agree, but I'm talking about some people here who didn't like playing it solo. Of course there are people who played the beta solo and still enjoyed it.

For a game like this it may be alright with a few good hundred people online at any given time, and I felt like Bungie has geared it towards low populations. Who knows what it will be like after launch, guess we'll see.

my friends labeled it "the poor mans Borderlands"...essentially because you will find maybe 3 or 4 chests within an hour of playing. So...Borderlands, with less loot.

The chests in Borderlands 2 were filled with crap though. If you just want to see loot even if it is trash I guess you might like that.

This. I'd prefer less loot but with higher quality than more loot with shit quality.

Recently, I feel burned out about the loot I got in Borderlands 2 since I actually got most of them from my friends.

The general drop rates were trash as well and when you did actually get something, it was just trash. Such a far cry from BL where you could literally play at 30 mins at a time and still can expect something decent on top of vendor/ chest runs.

Yeah Gearbox really made a mistake with drop rates for Borderlands 2. It was fine in the original. That's why so many people resorted to duping.

Even if you did play the beta its still overhyped.

From an outsider perspective, maybe. But from a perspective from someone who liked the beta and looking forward to play the final game, I don't think he'll see it overhyped.

Media and gaming press overhype it., but then again, Most gaming medias overhype any game that is touted to be the next big thing.

Not only the drop rates. They screwed with how the loot and stats in general scaled per level. At about mid 30's you need to constantly upgrade your gear otherwise you'll be one shotted and you'll deal barley any damage. Then there's UVHM. BL2 was a balancing nightmare and the epitome of artificial difficulty.

Only reason that I keep my preorder after playing beta is this game made by Bungie.
If full game still play like beta ( go from A to B, kill everything you see, go back to base, repeat) then this game will be major disappointment of the year, at least for me.

Destiny is Halo with a different name.

Pretty much.

But is it necessarily a bad thing, though? I think some people use that as some kind of criticism towards the game

Cool. So I don't need a next-gen console for that as well?
It's a cross-gen game, so yeah. As long you don't mind how blurry it looks like compared to PS4/XB1 versions, you should be fine playing it with last-gen consoles

True. At least they gave out tons of golden keys that you could use if you out-leveled your gear. That was almost an admission of poor design though.
