It's amazing how quickly Sega's become irrelevant. Sad, too.

I'm looking forward to the next batch of Phantasty Star and Shining titles... that's about it.

Sega has a sad history. we're used to it. they can still make great games when they choose to, though,

If I were head of Sega, I'd fire some people. Yuji Naka would be the first to go. Maybe he did some great things in the early 90s (and even then, his involvement is questionable), but he hasn't done shit in a LONG time.

That's dumbass, Yuji Naka might be a useless turd, but his name is worth money. If I were Sammy/Sega, I would sell off the entire Sonic Team studio ala Rare. I'm sure some other publisher would be interested. Let them take the burden. By simply firing him, you'll destroy the morale at Sonic Team and completely waste a otherwise potentially profitable entity.

Yuji Naka hasn't really dont anything great, but his sonic games are still some of Sega's best sellers.

Naka programmed the original Phantasy Star and II, that's his biggest contribution for me. I never enjoyed the sonic games really. he seems to be an ass.

Suzuki is the king, Naka is the spoiled prince.

That would be stupid. He's done very well for them and still is.

Considering that Sonic Team's games post-Saturn have been pretty much shit, I'd have to say you're wrong.

ANYBODY could've made the Sonic Adventure games, they would've sold the same or better, and the games probably wouldn't have been complete ass.

Is NIGHTS as great as everyone says it is? Wasn't the game released for Saturn? Is it really that timeless? Usually the Sega hardcores are the only ones that talk about it.

Sega's not allowed to be dead until I can get my VF4: Final Tuned on PS2 for $20 over here in North America.

reports of their demise are greatly exaggerated. this has been an off year for them, but i've still really enjoyed nightshade, sonic heroes (which is manifestly the best 3d sonic game, for whatever that's worth), blood will tell, and outrun 2. perhaps there's nothing there to set fanboy hearts ablaze, but it's a pretty solid set of games. imo. of course their best recent move was to delegate gba astro boy to treasure.

i can't think of any sega games i'm looking forward to, though. maybe spikeout, though i get the sense that it's aged badly. particularly relative to games like ninja gaiden and zoe 2, which have taken basic beat-em-up elements and transfigured them. feel the magic should be good, but i'm not buying a ds.

Greatest game ever made.

It's like SEGA Rally/Daytona USA combined with an acrobatic flying platformer with tight controls typical over-the-top saturated SEGA graphics and the most amazing dynamically playing music you've ever heard. It is hard to get good at it, but it's only then that you can really start appreciating the game design for what it is. The key to playing the game is speed, speed, speed. It's essentially a really tightly designed racer.. You have to know the turns before they come and what the best angles are, how to handle each enemy in a split second, when to paraloop and when not too and how large a paraloop to use (VERY tricky).. so you basically have to learn each level intimately.. every detail. Each level, of the two separate storylines, features increasing levels of complexity. Each level is uniquely designed and combined with the boss stages make up an amazingly diverse world.

IMO, It is the most rewarding game experience out there.

Shining Tears and Shining Force and PSU. Those are actually making me buy a PS2. Sad really... Never really wanted one, but now I have to get one.

Looking forward to Feel The Magic (aka I Would Die For You), and I can't wait until a proper Sonic DS is finally shown.

Bankruptcy.

:)
Being owned by Sammy pretty much makes this an impossibility for many years. I don't see what all the drama is about. This is the year that Sega had their massive re-org mandated by Sammy where all of their devs would be consolidated. I'm sure it's caused a little bit of a mess within Sega and is bound to affect a project or two. I'm sure they're still cranking away at games and will have some new announcements between now and the next E3. I'm not concerned.

In case you didn't know KyotoMecca works for(or has ties) with kikizo.

even I knew that.

I don't know anything about KyotoMecca OR Kikizo.

I'm just in a fun and teasing mood today. :D

I'd actually love it if Sega just goes on a blitz and announces a shitload of awesome games, like I expected them to announce at E3. I don't think I'm stretching anything when I say that I've been bitterly disappointed by their performance this past year. I hope that all of the managerial upheaval is done, and they can just get back (in some form or another) to making the great games that they used to make.

Shining Force GBA Remake and Skies of Arcadia Legends were probably the last Sega games released by then in recent years that I truly loved.

I'm looking forward to Shining Tears, but I'm worried about PSU, PS Trilogy, and the PS2 Shining Force (which looks nothing like a Shining Force.) Seriously, here's hoping.

VF5 on Naomi III hardware is Sega's next big game, which should be the first showing of a real next generation game. Then you have a couple of regular releases like Spikeout Online. I believe Sega is going to be a quiet until the next gen systems reveal themselves. Which is why I believe Kiziko, there's so much we don't know about, and a lot of it Sega can't show until the hardware manufacterers are ready, something Sega doesn't control anymore.

Don't be so quick write off Sega. They were always a bit behind the 8 ball in terms of graphics on the current systems, which is why they frequently don't set fanboy flames afire. VF5 should be the game that will make fanboys respect Sega again. Rumors on what system the game will go on will fuel the fanboy wars.

well kyoto has been hinting a nights sequel. personally im looking forward to the next shining force, kinda...it looks different than i expected.
shining tears doesnt look too hot.
and they havent announced much else.
recent games have sorta sucked (astro boy ps2 and blood will tell), still waiting to buy outrun 2 though...which should be fantastic for me.

Maybe, just maybe, they'll give us a bit of Phantasy Star Universe news.

Apart from that, I really don't expect much on the console front from the new Sega Sammy. I've now given up hope of ever seeing a Monkey Ball 3 ... :(

Regarding Naka, the guy's temperament and personality is well known. He's not the greatest guy to be work with. He's a perfectionist, and if things don't go his way, he gets pissed. Though the question has to be asked: if he's such a perfectionist, why are so many recent Sonic Team games crap?

Well the fact that his "baby" NiGHTS bombed so badly really really seemed to have killed a bit of his love for his job, or so I've heard. Also, the fact that he's constantly being compared to (unfairly, of course) to Miyamoto probably does not help things, such as getting a day's work done. I read somewhere that he was much happier when he was just some nobody programmer.

The Saturn's also the greatest system ever. Nice piece of hardware and a wealth of gems. Unless you only play American/UK games, and then yeah... perhaps it's better forgotten.
