So, what is coming from SEGA over the next 6 months that is exciting?

Is NIGHTS as great as everyone says it is? Wasn't the game released for Saturn? Is it really that timeless? Usually the Sega hardcores are the only ones that talk about it.

it's actually so great that all negative reviews have mysteriously vanished from the internet.

*PSO: Blue Burst (Episode IV baby!)
*Shining Tears
*Feel The Magic XY/XX

And hopefully in this span of time, they will throw some new nuggets out there (VF4 Final Tuned for some system, Phantasy Star Universe, new Skies Of Arcadia etc etc)

<sigh> You know with Vic Ireland posting on the board today and this thread being so near the topic he's in.... I'm having flashbacks to r.g.v.sega days.... was there a more hated man than Vic on that newsgroup years back?

EDIT: Vic doesn't have a thread, he's just posted in the magazine alternate game case thread.

They have another PSP game announced only as Project S or something to that affect.

I really don't get the ST/Naka hate. I know where it comes from and key moments in it's development, but for a guy/team that's created as many great games they have you'd think they'd get cut more slack but unfortunately they got caught up in some rather ugly fanboy politics.

Unfortunately Sega have made themselves irrelevent.

If you put aside sports games, they haven't made a string of good games in a long while. They abandoned too many classic franchises throughout the Saturn and DC periods (Genesis franchises, then Saturn ones) and screwed up Sonic in the move to 3D (I don't care that it's managed to sell well).

At this point, Sega have very few reliably good and noteworthy franchises. At one point I would have found it sad to say that I don't really care about what Sega has in the works for the future, but it doesn't bother me now.

Regarding Naka, the guy's temperament and personality is well known. He's not the greatest guy to be work with. He's a perfectionist, and if things don't go his way, he gets pissed. Though the question has to be asked: if he's such a perfectionist, why are so many recent Sonic Team games crap?

Well the fact that his "baby" NiGHTS bombed so badly really really seemed to have killed a bit of his love for his job, or so I've heard. Also, the fact that he's constantly being compared to (unfairly, of course) to Miyamoto probably does not help things, such as getting a day's work done. I read somewhere that he was much happier when he was just some nobody programmer.

Great post, especially the last line of the first paragraph; it's Great Truth™.

What gets me with all this "FIRE NAKA!" talk, is now that Sega has big brother Sammy with them in that holding company, most of the old execs shown the door, the massive reshuffling of their dev teams, and their sports games flagged "ESPN", if they start booting more developer personalities that brought them to the top back with the Genny, there won't be a "Sega" anymore. Just a "Virtua Fighter", a "Sonic", a "Panzer Dragoon", etc.

At this point, Sega have very few reliably good and noteworthy franchises. At one point I would have found it sad to say that I don't really care about what Sega has in the works for the future, but it doesn't bother me now.

It's interesting; they bring out the Saturn, then the DC, then go 3rd party, and with each of them, they tended to balance the types of releases close between ol' reliables such as Phantasy Star and Sonic, and new IP's out of nowhere, like Skies of Arcadia and Super Monkey Ball. They could make quality sequels out of many of these, but they'll still have many others in the cold in order to give those sequels the kind of care and polish befitting their histories.

SEGA have created so many new, fantastic characters this generation, yet very few of them have hit it off and theres no good reason why.

Specifically Jet Set Radio and SEGA Soccer Slam. JSRF has some really good, appealing characters, all who are really different in their style, plus the music was fantastic.

I've never played SEGA Soccer Slam, but I've watched the intro video and the characterisations look absolutely hilarious. It's such a damning shame the game never went anywhere.

Super Monkey Ball, Billy Hatcher, Rez, Chu Chu Rocket!, plenty of new characters, yet few of them caught on.

SEGA need to set up a hype machine, and FAST. Theres no hype for any of their games anymore.

I am looking forward to these Sega games
Super Monkey Ball DX (I am getting the x box one)
Shining Tears PS2
Shining Force PS2
Spikeout on X box

Looking forward to Shinning Force Neo.

The Phantasy Star trilogy somewhat, along with Phantasy Star Universe.

Also Sakura Taisen 5.

And Project S (If S is for Skies, not Sonic).

Sega need to make more RPGs. Why didn't PDS get a sequel yet?

...let me know if anything's missing.

Meteos is only being produced by Mizoguchi. Some dude from HAL is directing it.

Also, it looks fairly underwhelming when compared to Lumines.

I heard it through the grapevine, real top secret, that they have some new Pachinko games that will blow you away.........

There's always going to be a period of turmoil after your company is sold and reorginized. Look at how long it took for Square to get project production levels back up after it happened to them.

The lull Sega had recently was mostly caused by this. The good stuff will hopefully be back up and running soon.

It was supposed to be about an alien invasion in that American town. Or some such... It sounded very ambitious at the time. Maybe it has been moved to the next generation.

No matter how crappy the Sonic games (I kind of liked the first Adventure personally), PSO, Chu Chu Rocket and Samba were all great.

Actually I'm not the biggest fan of PSO, but I can appreciate it for what it is.

just give me monkey ball 3

after that, i dont care what the fuck they do

God please. And no rush-job slapped-together shit because it's an one of the few brands Sega hasn't pissed away yet with crap-quality titles.

I want Ghost Squad and OutRun2 SP at home. I want to see a new Daytona and Virtua Fighter 5 in the arcades and then at home on nextgen systems. Shenmue 3. another Sega-Nintendo collaboration. and of course, Phantasy Star Universe with PSV within PSU. come on Sega!

:lol

There was a game with character designs by the creator of Kenshin.

BTW, I see a Bleach game listed for GC. Isn't Sony making a PS2 Bleach game?

Is this even worth counting still?
Sega's still got it on their site.

Evidently Sega's releasing Bleach games for GC, GBA & DS. SCEI has Bleach games coming for PS2 & PSP.

Oh and Nagoshi confirmed Monkey Ball 3 is in development. :)

I think they both look outrageously fun. Although obviously the visual/audio presentation isn't on par with Lumines, it still looks to pack a major punch. I can't wait.

-Altered Beast

-Sega Rally

-Shining Tears

-Shining Force Neo

-Spikeout

-Supermonkeyball Deluxe

And hopefully we´ll see the plans of next gen and PSU , Nagoshi´s news games ans AM2 new projects .

Better than most japanese companys these days , specially all the crap from KONAMI.
