You have varied opinions on what 'big' is.

Personally, the biggest game in the world is Boca vs River - the fans are so intense, the game is usually always good - both sides are fantastic, and it offers a spectacle like no other.

Personally I think it's great that football is such a truly worldwide sport that we can debate what we think the biggest match is. That there is even a debate over this shows the appeal of the game.

well said.

What do you like about football, as the style of play varies between countries.

I'm not sure at this point. I'm still getting the feel of the game. Starting to pick up on the little details seen throughout the game. I do love low scoring games with lots of action and shot on goal that either just miss or are stopped by the goalie. I love watching a player with good one on one skills that can shake a defender and then lay off a perfect pass/cross or shot.

In Europe the Club World Championship is not treated seriously. It's incredibly elitist attitude that I object too but that's how it is here.

Milan gave everything to win the last CWC. They went to Japan a week early, played all their A players, and I think even missed (sent a B team or rescheduled) 1 or 2 national games.

The coach also made some comments about how it was necessary that they win the tournament.

The only ones who dont care are those who lose. Right Liverpool?

Boca is the second most successful team in the world in terms of winning things. Milan is first.

Thus, the real best match is Boca-Milan.

And yes, the CWC in December was a great game

You know, I like Milan and all -- really, I do -- but I have a hard time considering them the most successful team in the world, especially "in terms of winning things", when they are second in the two most relevant categories. Real Madrid have won the European Cup more than Milan have, and Juventus have won Serie A more times than Milan have. If Milan are not the most successful team on their own continent or in their own country, how can they be the "most successful team in the world in terms of winning things"?

I've seen a lot of AC Milan games. They keep hyping up Rikki Kaka on Fox Soccer Channel, so they show a lot of AC Milan games. Haven't really seen Real or Barcelona play live yet, only highlights. I want to see Barcelona because of Henry. He was fun to watch in the World Cup a few years ago. Oh and of course also because of Ronaldiho.
Don't expect much from Ronaldinho these days, he has been on a slump for some time. Henry, Messi and Iniesta is where the magic is at Barcelona this season. I hope Ronaldinho would change his attitude and go back to his former self though, he was something else.

Barça is (almost) always fun to watch. Take a look at this, and that's just Messi in one game :lol

Wow Messi is pretty slick. That move he did on the end line by the goalie was sick. I got to check out the next Barcelona game FSC shows. This weekend it's all EPL, so hopefully next week they'll show a Barcelona match.

Also have another question. What's up with the purple and yellow ball? Every league seems to be using that wild colored ball.

You know, maybe we could keep our club preferences and bias out of this thread. You're only going to confuse the fella.

Keep it for our thread.

Nike introduced it a few seasons ago to the English Premiership; the idea is in winter when it's darker a blue-and-yellow ball is easier to see.

In summer, they go back to the original white ball.

This decision had nothing to do with increasing sales of footballs, I'm sure.

Winning 6 of your 9 CL titles in the fifties when like 4 teams participated isn't really impressive.

But I didn't get to promote Villa yet :(

sportzhead, in addition to reading the Simmons column you should also read this book:

Use the Shop@Amazon link above.

I got it after the '94 WC. Before the WC, I had no idea what international soccer was, or even that it existed, despite the fact that it was my favorite sport and I played it almost every day. This was before the internets or Fox Soccer Channel, so the cause was completely hopeless until I saw this book on the shelf at my local chain store. The author explains everything from big time UEFA tournaments and international play right down to his local League 2 team.
