Some new info on Lightning Returns:FFXIII from Tokyo event

Gut feeling says this game is all about the gameplay and the story is gonna take a back seat.

Either that, or they're taking a page from Capcom's book of promotion around the days of RE5 and DMC4 (ie, show off almost the entire game in trailers/screenshots/interviews).

The game will be filled with plot, nonsense plot but...plot after all. Hell even the 3rd birthday had lot of plot and files that didn't even made sense, but Toriyma wrote anyway because in his mind, he prolly thinks is a good writer.

BTW, I hope this gets a demo.

You realize this is a Final Fantasy game by Toriyama right?

Kitase and Toriyama in a nutshell.

Just...

You know what? When in Rome, motherfuckers!

Man that Lightning, she always going Commando. And boy is she a Ravager. But don't be a Saboteur, be a Synergist. And if you prove to be a good enough Sentinel, she'll be your Medic by the end of the night.

MAH WAIFU IZ TEH BEZT!!!!!!!!

What do I win?

But seriously, what the fuck?

This is one of the cringiest things I have ever read on GAF.
Also, I saw your stealth edit...

And wow about the breast increase. Why? Toriyama

Between the idea that you can bypass needing to block and that you can beat the last boss in 50 seconds, the gameplay seems to be as stupid as the bra size issue.

There was an earlier interview that basically said you can skip regular enemy battles if you want too... as in, if you do the story quests and get the items/equipment that way you can still go straight to the final boss without participating in normal battles.

The "last boss" is never the hardest boss in Final Fantasy games ever since they introduced the concept of post game, and I see no reason why being able to build your character a certain way is a bad thing? I'm assuming you'd sacrifice your ability to kill things quickly if you make a character that doesn't need to block.

Crap, you got me.

So, what do I win?

YOU SEE WHAT YOU HAVE DRIVEN ME TO TORIYAMA!!!!!! YOU SEE? THIS IS WHAT YOU HAVE DONE!

I'd say I'm glad I can use her XIII costume since I really like that one, but I just don't care enough about this game to play it, even if it were free.

I mean, holy shit at this stuff.

-It is true the Ligtning's Bust size increased from C cup to D cup in LR. Its done by Toriyama.
-There will be costumes that makes your bust size bigger or smaller.

Seriously?

I wasn't able to watch the thing entirely.

I'm still unable to do so...

I guess the fact you can go anywhere or do the bare minimum and still complete the game means you have to design the game unbalanced as fuck so wharever you do you can finish it.

But I guess this is such a "revolution" in the JRPG genre that it dosn't matter!!

Last bosses aren't always the hardest one, but hardly they were designed to be easy enough so whatver you do you can beat them.

Hell on a unprepared party, Sephiroth can give you one of a hell of time. Compare it with X-2 final boss....

Because plenty of games allow you to build your character without omitting silly things like blocking.

While the last boss is often not the hardest boss, it's laughable that it can be beaten in that short of a time. Most people will likely never fight any post-game bosses, and that will be their 'finale'.

It's less the actual cup size change that has me giggling (character designs change, it happens) but it's the oddly specific way they've drawn attention to it. Like, way to make a relatively innocuous change seem way creepier.

The fact that costumes can change the bust size is hilarious too. Like, what? That's really something you're making interactive?

Toriyama, man.

There are final bosses in Final Fantasy games that can be literally killed in 1 attack. Even from ones that are universally praised like FF6...

With very particular setups sure, when you have a huge cast of characters and plenty of customization options, it's okay to have these kind of things.

When you have a single character with minimal actual customization and only a dozen possible attacks at once, the build options are quite minimal and it's likely easier to figure out the '50 second' build.

Edit: and holy shit, watching that LR concept video, Toryiama IS as fucking insane as I thought. I was always kind of hoping it was an exaggeration. FFXIII literally is the worst thing ever.

Every FF can be broken, dosn't change the fact that last bosses are designed (in FF) to be challenging in most cases, just when rubbish design gets in the middle (like in FF X-2) they become a joke.

right? it's not like people don't steamroll the elite 4 and champion in pokemon games with a single poke. some of the complaints about this game are bs.

Wow Really? That seems like an odd thing to do. Everything I read about this game always strikes me as a really strange thing to do.

-If you are not good at action, you can focus on defence stats and you will be able to beat the game without using the "defend/guard" command.

Not exactly something I wanted to hear. I hope there's difficulty options if that hasn't been stated before.

The only weird part about this is the needless emphasis, otherwise it seems fairly reasonable certain outfits just happen to make the chest appear a different shape/smaller/larger.

The fun gameplay says you're wrong. If it had bad gameplay, I'd agree.

I think it has bad gameplay. Lack of party control and gimped classes in 13-2 plus the forced animal companion.

Skill trees that are a joke and basically just go in one direction.

Equipment that you basically get as story progression.

I can totally understand someone liking it I guess, but I prefer gameplay with some actual weight to it.

That's not really applicable here because the Elite 4/Champion battles in the Pokemon games for the last half a decade couldn't just be steamrolled by a single pokemon unless you really overleveled, had a legendary, or had a fully leveled really good pokemon like Garchomp by trading or something.

In LR, you don't even level up; you just get abilities and weapons. That would be all fine and dandy if this was a decked out Lightning with post-game equipment who has already beaten up on the Emerald/Ruby/Omega Weapon equivalents of the game. But combined with their "you probably won't even need to use block!" comments, I'm skeptical. Plus, given how they handled shoddy balance with XIII-2, precedent is not quite on their side.

The Final Fantasy brand continues to be eroded by this utter nonsense.

Toriyama is thinking too short term.

FTFY

What a joke. I never had explicit animosity towards this series, but this is just creepy and damning to the Final Fantasy franchise. The sooner SE moves on from this spectacle the better.

Toriyama is not the lord god of Square Enix. The higher-ups are allowing him to make these games.

Let me make believe they're not delusional enough to think that these decisions benefit the company in any way. I realize they had to sign off on all of this, but the truth hurts, yo ):

Which is why I still fear for the future of Final Fantasy. I mean XIV is turning out well and XV looks cool, but how XV turns out in the end and what they plan to do with XVI could still very well be ruined.

Do you like Nomura's games? If so it's pretty safe to assume you'll like XV.

The flagship franchise grows stagnant.
