Some new info on Lightning Returns:FFXIII from Tokyo event

You don't have to reply every single time to me by saying I'm not allowed to be excited for this game. I told you already that the JAPAN EXPO's DEMO mixed up with E3 DEMO makes me already excited without even touching upon all the other elements involved. I like the game, just deal with it.

That said, going back to the topic. They're showing the beginning of the game at the event:

(also but I can't verify yet, Moogle Village confirmed to be in the game)

That's not what I said but thanks for twisting my words.

In Japan they had LR:FFXIII event in Tokyo and here are some new info

-they showed Vanilla
-the reason Hope became young again is unknown
-the 4th world "Wilderness" they showed in Japan expo is open world and you can ride chocobo
-the collaboration costumes change your win pose and the win music as well.
-you can change colors for the Cloud costume as well.
-If you have XIII, XIII-2 save data, you can use the XIII and XIII-2 costume right away.
-the showed off FFX's Yuna costume
-weapons, shields, costumes can be bought in shops or are quest rewards.
-the have accessories like glasses, earrings, necklaces, etc.
-you get abilities by killing enemies.
-depending on how you customize your character, its possible to kill the last boss in 50 seconds.
-If you are not good at action, you can focus on defence stats and you will be able to beat the game without using the "defend/guard" command.

-It is true the Ligtning's Bust size increased from C cup to D cup in LR. Its done by Toriyama.
-There will be costumes that makes your bust size bigger or smaller.

This sounds pretty cool to me. Customization can allow you to break the game, which is something that's been possible in past games too, though usually you did it through levels too.
Given past comments, that you can buy the best equip at the start if you have enough money, since they cost a lot or something along these lines, I'm expecting that this stuff is mostly relegated to new games+ runs or toward the end of first runs.

Also good on Toriyama for granting Lightning a more developed chest. I approve Toriyama, you're doing God's work.

I think one of the positives in the game is this costumes.
It feels this gen, many developers are cutting extras and turning them into dlc.
XIII-2 was really shameful, why add a costumes option when none of them were available to unlock at all.
It's ridiculous xiii-2 and other games got away with charging $2.00+ for each costume.
I don't really mind dlc, as long as the game isn't bareboned and has some sort of extra.

Talking about bust size like it matters? I know you're not that popular anymore Squeenix but please don't go down the Team Ninja route, you should be ashamed.

Pics from the opening, Lumina is in it?

Vanille will also have a role to play in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
By Erren Van Duine on July 27, 2013 at 3:32 AM

Japanese fans got their first hands-on with Lightning Returns today – courtesy of a Sony sponsored Play Community event held in Tokyo – where they were able to preview the beginning of the game. While most of the details shared at the event encompass information we already know, a few new tidbits have leaked out from those who attended the viewing.

Earlier this month, we learned that Fang would be rejoining the cast and it looks like she won’t be alone. Vanille is also back in some form, although details on her reappearance are still largely unknown. It seems she will show up in Luxerion.

The reason for Hope’s appearance as his 14 year old self is also still a mystery – one that will likely be solved during the course of the game. Apparently he went missing 169 years ago from the start of the game’s story, and although he can’t remember how he reverted to his teenage form he still remembers events from the past – just not in an emotional sense. Both Lightning and Hope seem to have thinning emotions. The older version of Hope from XIII-2 will make at least one appearance via a cutscene, but it’s still unknown if he’ll return to his adult form in the end. Snow has changed somewhat as well – no longer referring to Lightning in a casual manner, but now simply as “Savior.”

The fourth and final area in the game – the Wildlands – was shown off to the audience. It’s an open forest sort of area in which Lightning can ride chocobos through.

As previously detailed, the collaborative costumes from Final Fantasy VII, X and XIV will feature unique sets of victory poses as well as their own victory themes. Color customization will be available on these outfits as well for those wanting to change the look of Cloud’s SOLDIER uniform, however weapons and shields will not have the ability to be pallet swapped. Lightning will also be able to obtain Yuna’s summoner garb – which was initially revealed at E3 and will likely be a part of Square Enix’s Go There campaign.

For those that still have save files from Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2, you’ll unlock Lightning’s outfits from each respective game automatically.

Lightning’s other costumes will be available through quests or purchased at a shop, while some abilities can be gathered through enemy drops. She’ll also be able to wear a variety of accessories including necklaces, earings, mascot items (such as XIII-2’s Mog) and glasses. Equipping the right setup is key – by using the right configuration of equipment, the game’s final boss can be felled in under 50 seconds. Players more interested in a less action-based approach need not worry – Lightning can be stacked more on the defensive side of things which will eliminate the need to reply on Guard and Evade tactics.

Lastly, the staff took some Q&A time to answer fan questions – one in particular curious if Lightning’s bust size had really increased as indicated in a Japanese interview at E3. It’s true, according to Toriyama and her bust size will actually change depending on the type of Schema she is wearing.

Why did they even mention her breast size?
-_-

Because fans asked:

japan is japan.

Yep. I don't understand why they're telling everyone these details at all, especially given Toriyama's fixation on narrative. And bypassing the need to evade/guard and beating the final boss in 50 seconds... I have the feeling that the game might be as unbalanced as FF13-2 was. :/

Everyone else has had a chuckle at the bra size thing already, so I'll just say that I'm bemused.

Hmm how was FF13-2 unbalanced?

I wonder if this game flops hard (which i think is very possible) what will be the message SE will get?:
"our fans don't care about open world FF games"
or
"Hmm maybe we overdid it with this Lightning thing..."

It really doesn't matter to SE, since this game is free money. It's built off old FFXIII assets, and already had a small (but dedicated) audience for the game. No matter how poorly it sells, it will still be a profit for SE. So no, I doubt any lesson will be learned from the release of this game in particular, except that enthusiasm for the XIII trilogy is not so great (if sales tank again).

i enjoyed 13 solely because of the battle system, skipped 13-2 because of the pokemon mechanic.

but you're damn sure i'm coming back for cloud lightning and bust sizes

Any other FF tie in costumes besides Cloud and Yuna? SeeD outfit maybe?

Thumbs down for this game either way.

That's the hardest boss in the game.

The rest of the game you need a Commando and a Ravager, and click Auto-Battle.

i actually liked FFXIII (it wasnt the hardest game but was challenging). The dificulty in FFXIII-2 was a big disapointment.
Hope FFXIII-LR isn't that easy anymore.

I like Lightning's character design, I really do, but it's quite clear Squeenix is now targeting the otaku idol crowd. I say good luck with your dwindling Japanese demographic Squeenix, let's just hope they don't kill Eidos in the process.

More info from the event about Vanille and Hope but I alert you, they're spolerish:

Hope went missing 169 years ago

- He couldn’t remember why he has turned back into a teenager again

- He remembers the events that happened in the past, but not the emotions from that time

- Snow calls Lightning “the Saviour" instead of “Sis"

- Vanille seems to be in Luxrion

Those tidbits definitely point to Hope being
Lindzei. Fal'Cie do not experience or understand emotions.

-If you have XIII, XIII-2 save data, you can use the XIII and XIII-2 costume right away.
I've got to find a way to convert saves from 360 to PS3. I've purchased this series in perhaps the dumbest way possible. XIII on PS3, XIII-2 on 360, XIII on 360 to replay for achievements but realizing how bad the CGI looked and realizing I should go PS3 for better bitrate on XIII-3 cgi.

-It is true the Ligtning's Bust size increased from C cup to D cup in LR. Its done by Toriyama.
-There will be costumes that makes your bust size bigger or smaller.
Are these troll comments added by the OP? They posted a pic of her in a tub top outfit a week ago and she's barely a B, let alone D.

That could be a costume that decreases her bust size.

SO ??
If you're overpowered you can destroy the main vilain ? why not .
Do give me some challenges beyond that or else it'll be a joke.
-If you are not good at action, you can focus on defence stats and you will be able to beat the game without using the "defend/guard" command.
They made it so that you can beat the game even if you suck at action games ... why not ...but well those who complained that FF1"-2 was too easy will cry.

Why am i not surprised ?

So you post Rapstil, a boss that requires the most amount of effort to even get to (you have to not only be pretty close to end game, but you have a lot of Oerba Puzzles to do before then), but by the time you do get to it, you'll be decently leveled because almost every encounter gives a shitload of EXP (but almost every encounter is balanced similarly, so the difficulty never really notably increases).

How is a super boss any way indicative on the rest of the game's balance, or lack-thereof again?

13-2 was too easy tbh, but didn't stop the game from being a lot of fun and mostly better than 13. hope they keep improving on this and the combat already looks great.

The more I hear about this game the more I'm confident in this being one of the best Final Fantasy I'll play in my life. There's simply TOO much stuff going on for it to not being anywhere near "good" through "excellent". They're going to surprise lots of people and fans, of that I'm sure. Yet... so many months of wait, I wonder what I'll do in the meantime :(

It's clear what you look for in a game when some of the points in the OP excite you I guess. I was honestly considering it may even start pushing some of the FFXIII fans into disfavour but I guess the people who play it to ogle lightning will only get more excited by gameplay they can ignore and ways to make lightning sexier.

The way these pictures are taken makes it look like they're brainwashing people to like Lightning or something. Heck, they even have a portrait in the far back as if it's some grand figure. It looks like something out of a dystopian novel/movie. lol.

I'm excited about the idea of making Lightning's breasts even bigger with more outfits. It's like Toriyama read my mind or something.

Toriyama - "Esura, we know you love Lightning and the Lightning Saga and we want you to like her more. We know you like titties so to show some support for fans like you lets throw you a bone!"

You's alright with me brother, you's alright with me.

The marketing push has already been stockholm syndrome inducing.

If it was someone else I'd assume this post was entirely sarcasm :v

Well, the game is about her. To be expected.

There is something seriously wrong when we're using other games that increase bust size for female characters as justification for why Lightning's breasts got bigger in LR. Just because other games did it means it's right. It only shows what a sleaze you, the designer, and everyone else who supports it are. It's a complete disregard of continuity and failure to show respect for the character you've designed which can extend to the sex said character is associated with.

Oh come on, character appearances changes all the time for various reasons. Some changes are minor while some are drastic. There is really no wrong or right about it, it is what it is.

I still want to know who really cares about these things. I have to look at the Japanese culture for this ridiculousness.
