Some new info on Lightning Returns:FFXIII from Tokyo event

Your enthusiasm tends to be a little over-the-top and it has the capability of doing more damage than good, Perfo. Especially since you haven't played the game yet and are going off of developer interviews and snippets of gameplay. And I think that's why people aren't really taking you as seriously.

You're praising the game for its ambition, but it remains to be seen whether or not that ambition will bear fruit that will be cohesive and enjoyable, with mechanics that work extremely well. You can't blame people for being cautiously optimistic or outright unimpressed, as what you see may not be as engaging for others. For example, some of the developers have said nice and interesting things and have detailed interesting mechanics in the past about FF13 and FF13-2 which didn't really come to fruition or didn't live up to its potential (ex: blood damage in FF13-2, sidequests in FF13-2, the CSB in FF13, etc). Every other FF game before this was ambitious too, and in some ways certain things lived up to their potential, and in others they haven't.

So continuously saying that it's going to be the best and the most ambitious FF ever may not strike someone the same way as it would you, and that's something to keep in mind.

This game is certainly ambitious and does things differently, but I can't help but to be incredibly skeptical given my disappointment in some aspects of the last two works in the trilogy.

Try delusionally over the top. He's claiming it will be the best FF game of all time, is the most ambitious FF is over a decade in other threads, will move the JRPG genre forwards, and WILL be a success in every way imaginable. He's claiming that the graphics are top notch despite the fact that we have all seen that they aren't; he's claiming that there are features there that even the damn developers say there aren't (a 5th continent when Toriyama has said there are 4); and that there is a ton of content when we have yet to see a single dungeon.

There's being a fan and being hyped, and then there's Perfo. He honestly comes across as a member of the marketing team.

This explains everything.

Doesnt explain your post though. Mind explaining your reasoning for all this secretive posting towards me? :( I dont get it...

Great that it appeals to you in terms of mechanics and what they want to try to do with it, but it probably won't strike others the same way either.

Where have you been Schala? :P

breast jiggle too? True successor to FF7 is coming ^_^ this is clearly what has been lacking...

Looking back at their comments before FF13 release about Lightning character and what's happening right now is quite amusing.

graphics? lots of content? etc etc, well I guess we'll see, huh. Their past efforts don't give much confidence to say the least....

And the rest.... Perfo is going be a sad sad panda when this game comes out.

Someone should keep track of all his hyperbole for later.

This is so unreal. This game is all what an FF should be: huge world to explore freely, lots of customization, lots of content, graphics, style, music... it's, again, the most ambitious and interesting FF from 2006, maybe even more ambitious than what XII was at its time. It's a dream come true for any FF fan and I might add for any jRPG lover. This could be the title the finally takes the genre into 2013 and further. Its legacy could be quite huge and important if not for that stupid spin off name they decided to title they game with.

Critics will love it, players will spread the love around once releases. The title will be both successfull critically and sales-wise once everyone gets to understand HOW GOOD it is. Just few months to November to have the first impressions and an idea of how this plays out.

BTW, lots of spoilers... the first hour of gameplay:

My mind literally just went "?!?!?!" at this sentence. You know what, I don't even want to know how or why you think this about the genre (and I am definitely assuming that by genre you mean "JRPG", and you're excluding other types of RPGs for... reasons).

I have no idea if you are just taking this "FFXIII fanboy" role to exaggerated extents on purpose, but this is just starting to get ridiculous. It's one thing to be unenthusiastic, but are you bringing forth such enthusiasm because you want to play a good game, or do you want it to be a good game just so you can bask in the tears of the haters? Are you engaging in discussion on the game's quality based on things we've actually seen, or have you already put up a mental depiction of what the game might be like on a high pedestal and you are hyping that instead? At least be upfront with people so that they know how to handle you in these topics accordingly, because this song and dance in each LR topic with you acting as Toriyama's Flavor Flav-hype-man is starting to get awkward.

Well, he tends to be rather excited about FF quite often, and we'll see how he feels about it in the long run, especially with respect to some of the things that he's excited about (ex: social features, the general aesthetic, sales figures (though we usually get shipped numbers for SE games until NPD/PAL lists come out), game mechanics, etc.). I kind of doubt that it'll move the genre forward as it's borrowing some mechanics from BoF:DQ, Majora's Mask, AC, etc. But who knows, perhaps some other developers might take notes from it for ARPGs in the future. Perhaps they won't.

It is certainly within his right to be excited for the game, yes (though, again, Perfo tends to get really really excited about it and tends to get caught up in his hype). As is everyone else who is excited about it. Trivializing their excitement is probably just as bad as some being hyperbolic about the game / assuming features going to be in the final product if they aren't.

Regardless, Perfo's kind of hurting his case for the game at times by stating falsities or sometimes repeating his stance on it being the most significant FF ever or predicting sales figures which may not come to fruition. And with respect to how it'll affect RPGs to come and bringing the genre into 2013 "finally", I certainly don't know about that. Some RPGs have done that already, even prior to FF13 coming out. To me, it kind of feels like the FF13 games are actually catching up in a sense.

Where have you been Schala? :P
Stressed out and feeling unwell for the better part of the year and not posting as much in a lot of threads outside of a select few prior to now. Hello.

To be honest Lightning so unsexy I don't see what she IS about.

No breasts.
No curves.
No ass.

Pink toaster with burnt Cloud toast inside.

You really want me to hate you right? ~_~

:/ Get better. I like reading your posts.

I'm referring to other stuff. This just adds to it.

Other stuff *what*? There's no other change to lightning's character besides some very normal character progression, and this doesn't add to anything as it doesn't really influence her "characterization", unless you want it to.

Your right, I'm being no better right now.

To the bolded: Hope you are feeling better.

She has fit legs, there is nothing to shake there.

Such a weird analysis of a virtual character. I dont even...

k so hear me out

So Lightning can get costumes that change her bust. Why can't we have costumes that magically change her legs, too?

We can have fit legs Light, chicken leg Light, buff guy/girl leg Light, and so forth.

... No. No other leg would fit her. She is perfect the way she is.

Lightning the ultimate FF sex doll!

So Lightning can get costumes that change her bust.

This is probably incorrect. They were talking about clothing influencing her breasts in the context of breast jiggle, not size. Probably meaning that some clothes will be "flexible" others will be more rigid.

First-time-ever boob physics for a Final Fantasy? I'm genuinely excited.

FFXIV has it, maybe a little too much of it even.

IIRC FFXII did too. Speaking of which, Ashe's outfit is still far worse than anything they've shown Lightning wearing and she was an even more serious protagonist.

What's going on here, exactly?

Looking at those world designs, this game should be fun to explore once you get past the obligatory Toriyamaness. I'm a sucker for an engaging, living/breathing city and Luxerion and Yusnaan sure seem to fit the bill. The checkerboard patters make for a good motif.

I just hope we get to wander to our hearts' content and not be rushing through things, constrained by time. FFXIII-2 finally gave us that, and I'd be happy to see cities just like the ones in that game. Academia 4XX was just amazing.

it's k I like her fit legs the best anyway.

'Leg physics' may not be ready yet, but they're getting there. FFXIII, as part of the clothing designs, had a 'stocking shader' and in the Ultimania Omega there were pictures of Serah's legs with and without it; the ones with it implemented looked better.

(Incidentally, my future wife, who doesn't follow the world of game fandom and its contempt for SE, saw this feature and praised it. She flipped through the book some more and said, "The designs of these places and people are really excellent. The music is good too. It's too bad that director -- what was his name? -- is so baka."

Those designers (Nao Ikeda and another woman named Chika, I think) did a wonderful job. I'd love to see them continue to work alongside Isamu Kamikokuryo with his world designs, because they're fine additions to the team.

Great to have you back!

Love, Yoshi, a whole lot of love.
Looks to me we're all talking about ass, boobs and other crap :( why is this thread so popular, and the thread about combining magic and canceling enemy attacks so dead compared to this one?

They increased her bust size? Coulda fooled me, they looked bigger in XIII than in both 2 and what I've seen of this one. Her bust has never been big though.

No one wants to talk about this game seriously. Its all about bashing Toriyama and Lightning.

:(

Bleh, hopefully all the negativity ends when the OT is created. Who's making it btw? Luukyk, Perfo or Schala please!

Edit: wait, Schala is sick :(? Nooo!

Kagari is.

Join me at praying for her not to do a troll OP. ;-;
Oh fuck.

I remember her XIII-2 OT being one of the slickest, most awesome OTs on GAF so I wouldn't worry about it!

Has there been any news regarding what type of graphic engine this game is running on? From the few brief trailers and off-screen footage i've seen it's been hard to tell.
I mean the original XIII was super impressive. Had a constant good framerate, detailed character models and all that fancy stuff...in all visually appealing.
Whereas XIII-2 was less impressive...which I was shocked to find out. So this kinda got me worried for how Lightning Returns will be.

I only completed XIII the other night and despite some of it's issues compared to the other FF games in the past, I thought it was a great game. My only two gripes:
1 - The begining half of the game did feel like a drag
2 - The story was never told properly IMO. I was constatnly scratching my head as to why this and that happened. Needed more clarity and less emphasis on reading datalogs.
Need to start XIII-2 sometime...

IIRC Its the same engine (Crystal Engine), but with some changes in things like lighting and character models. I remember them showing comparisons of the Lightning model from XIII and LR in a video (cant find it now), and it was very different (things like hair, skin shade), for the better.
