Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed |OT| Everybody's Super Sonic Racing

I'm still thinking that the Nights track is a pile of poop, I was using Aiai and it felt damn near impossible to catch up because of the racers with a higher top speed, I was hitting every ring but barely closing the gap, the brief water section was the only point when I could make some progress and the warp point and plane transformation areas occasionally seemed to fling me into the wall like i'd lost control.

The NiGHTS track is a bit tricky, since if you drop off in the flight sections, you don't really have much place to gain ground. I like it, but it's definitely one of the harder courses. I haven't had any issues with collision outside the boat section, but I also suck at the boat sections so that's kind of expected.

I'm as far into the Campaign to unlock stars as I'm getting now. 124. That's 2? characters left to unlock and a few more tracks I can't partake in, because I'm not good/patient enough. I've managed to get a couple of stars from Hard and a couple from Extreme (the battle races are easy to do on this). But I really can't be bothered to keep trying the races over and over till I master the tracks, a lot which feel like luck than skill. Which is a shame, though one of the characters I already "have" in one form, so unlocking the "alternative costume" is hardly an incentive to keep at it. The other (last) would have been cool however.

I think overall it's a good game, that doesn't reach the greatness it could have. The roster is lacking/disappointing. A few that repeat almost what you've already got/unlocked. Pudding anyone? And the weapons lack charm. If you think of Mario Kart, you think of shells, ghosts, mushrooms etc. All very familiar and memorable. Nothing here but seemingly random power-ups. However, I think the whole experience is rather forgettable too. It is enjoyable, yes. Some of the tracks are nice. It's great to see such blasts from the past like Panzer Dragoon and Skies. The Samba track always reminds me of magical times with the original game itself. I like how no lap is the same, with it's dynamic changes throughout and as you change from one mode of transport to another. Keeps the tracks fresh and exciting. I just think it lacks that extra bit of fun and finishing polish to truly propel itto greatness. I also thought the music lacked pow. There's was some memorable tunes but overall it felt lacking too. Just a few missed opportunities overall. Also thought the Gates having to unlocked felt redundant. You can't progress past the next track without doing it anyways, so not sure why have a gateway that needs stars to get past it too. Not that it's a problem until once later in the game, just felt it was an addition that didn't need to be there. Little grumbles that's all.

No analog triggers on the Wii U version has turned me off possibly getting that version. The shitty framerate of the 360 demo turned me off that version.
Again, framerate is much better in the full game. This seems to apply to both the 360 and the PS3 version.

I'm thinking it's just awkward boat landings as it's not an uncommon occurrence in other tracks but I still feel as if the control goes a bit off when you turn back onto the plane on that track, maybe it's because you transform off the floor.

Finally unlocked Joe, leaving nothing left but characters I don't really care for which is probably for the best as some of world tour is just plain nutty on high difficulties.

And how. I really want Reala and Ages though, so I'll keep trudging along. I'm curious at what's past the 200 star lock beyond Ages, but if 165 stars is crazy, 200 is nigh impossible.

I quite like the difficulty, I lost a lot of interest in the first game once I had everything unlocked. Having said that, the first game had music to unlock and not just characters.

For those super hard to get characters I'm sure they'll be releasing some unlocking DLC at some point in the not-to-distant future.

Game crashed yet again. Just beat the starlight carnival VS race on S class with Vyse. He levelled up to lvl 2 and unlocked the balanced mod. Loading back to the world tour crashed at the loading screen.

Bug report. Was playing on the Hall of AGES stage online, was rocking it, then got to the last portal that leads you to the start of the race and the portal never opened, causing me to hit a black wall and be stuck until the end of the race.

If I can get a 199 PS3 with UC1/2 + inFamous 1/2 bundle next week, I'll try the demo on PS3. The first game was one of the rare multiplats that was better on the PS3.

Why do you need analog triggers for a cart racer? Isnt that something more suited for playing a game like...Forza, PGR, NFS, or Gran Turismo?

I can't stop listening to the game's soundtrack...too effin' good.

Haven't encountered many offline crashes or bugs when playing (PS3 ver.), sad to hear about them and hopefully they can iron these out with a patch that'll also add fixes and balacing.

I'm trying to clear Boost Challenge in the demo on Hard but there is just to little time!

Any tips? I'm not crashing and i use drifting...

Go for the level 1 drift boost all the time. There's no point in holding for a lvl 3 unless there's boost pads surrounding you that you can use.

This game isnt a kart racer :p at least not on hard and expert difficulty modes. You're gonna want to feather the gas otherwise your gonna crash into walls and kill your speed momentum.

It's XBL only atm it seems, didn't see a demo on PSN. (Thanks Baconsammy)

Man if only they promoted this game early announcing the TF exclusive in Steam ver., this would've been bought Day 1 on Steam.

EDIT: Shinobi theme is online!

EDIT2: OST IS ONLINE!

No lie, when playing this game, my finger holds the trigger all the way down and does not come up again until I cross the finish line. It's all about feathering hte brakes and the stick.

has the launch trailer been posted yet? it's hilarious. one of the most intense life-style trailers ive ever seen, although i don't think i would classify it as life style just because it shows peoples faces, but that's what its called

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MF1sHNo5Zck

someone gif those faces lol

also it would probably be helpful if those of you encountering bugs and problems said what platform you were playing on? Hopefully sega can issue a patch

The demo's pretty cool, but I wish there was more to it. I feel like a lot of racing game demos give you at least 2 tracks and 3 cars. I guess this technically gives you 2 tracks, but I mean real races. Also, I unlocked the "Balanced" mod but backed all the way out to the title and it erased all my progress.

Wednesday can't come soon enough. I got a review to write!

The '360 version seems quite stable, but then it did have a day 1 patch. Only issue I've had is a sound-effect playing over and over when I crossed the finishing line.

Mine froze yesterday randomly in a race. Today, I had a bug where the music didn't want to play in the menu or when I was racing... until suddenly part way through the last lap. It was weird.

LOL

yeah someone should, and then put them in the OP somewhere

that last face at the end of the video is what you're probably like when you beat some hard/expert challenges/races.

Within the next few days I'll be re-writing the OP, but I'll add the list of bugs in eventually (got work tomorrow and I should be sleeping in an hour or so @3@)

Gonna give that a shot.

This game feels more like a racing game than a kart game.

Hmm...well hopefully its not too jarring.

EDIT: Jet set radio stage should be nuts at full speed, with everybody jump around blasting.

I've got nothing against the difficulty, outside of the rubber banding action that's pretty blatant at S rank. I just wish it wasn't getting in the way of my unlocks! I do wish we had switchable music back. Sunshine Tour without Samba de Janeiro just feels wrong.

Alright, how the hell do you do a start boost consistently? I wish that had better feedback so I could tell if what I was doing was working.

Oh, and I've unlocked the last your and Expert difficulty. The medal looks cool

Sonic R 2. The petition starts here.
Fucking SIGNED

Yeah, from the few times I played the previous game i'm pretty sure the Samba stage used it, I hyped myself up for it when reaching the last cup only to be horribly disappointed.
Insult to injury is that they changed that but kept Casino Park's heroes theme and whatever generic sounding stuff is in the Death Egg stage, music switch would have been fabulous here.

Tap the accelerator in time with each countdown number, I find the first is hardest to time but the following two are easier, bugger up the timing of one and you lose the boost you have.
So there's three stages of start boost on the whole.

Okay then thanks. And I second the feeling on the music switch. Shadow the Hedgehog track on Egg Hangar? Something other than Samba de Janeiro? :/

EDIT: holy shit at that finish, Amigo and Knuckles got hit by drones and spun out right in front of the finish line, and I came and somehow bumped past them to finish 1st and get the Expert medal.

Actually to get a Start boost do the follwing
Get Ready message
Press and Hold Accelarate (Lvl. 1 boost)
Announcer says 3
Press and hold accelearate (Lvl. 2 boost)
Announcer says 2
Press and hold accel (Lv. 3 boost)
Announcer says 1, Go! (By now you'd be holding Accel and have a fully charged boost)

In other words press Accel when the screen goes black.

It's from Shadow the Hedgehog? well no wonder it sounds so shit!

Shadow is pretty fun to play as though, i'll give him that much, mainly because his vehicle stats were up my alley but no matter, i've got the Eggman and his master plan now, complete with his amazing laugh.

...I kind of like Cosmic Fall. But options would still be good! I thought Sega still had all the rights to Samba's music too, but that might have just been for the Wii game and SSASR.

Oh my bad. Messed up my reading skills because of a reply later on. Anyways, the framerate issue reminds me of Diddy Kong Racing in some ways. The game was a little off putting at first because of it (especially after being used to Mario Kart 64), but once you passed that initial stage you realized how good the gameplay was. I'm hoping this game will give me the same feeling.

The frame rate is mostly stable on PS3... so I guess all versions must be running fine.
Tranformed is definitely up there with Diddy Kong Racing & Crash Team Racing IMO.
Right under the original Mario Kart! ;)

This game is wonderful. So glad I booked a week off work to play it. I haven't played World Tour yet; all I've done is play Grand Prix, and I'm currently halfway through the third cup.

It feels nothing like the previous game, which is a good thing; not because the last game was in any way bad (it was brilliant), but because it prevents this from being just an upgraded version of the same game. This game shows the innovation that Mario Kart sorely needs. It also means I'll enjoy going back to the original, as that offers it's own unique experience.

People here weren't kidding; it's MUCH harder than the original. I'm playing on Medium, and though I've come first in both cups I've done so far, I certainly haven't been placing first in every race. I'm still adjusting to the new drift mechanics, as unlike the first game, you can't just drift constantly. And as mentioned, you're penalised considerably for hitting a wall.

The tracks are incredible. They're well-designed, some of them change drastically from lap to lap, and in most of them there's a ton of awesome shit going on in the background.

The soundtrack is brilliant. I miss having a choice of music, but the remixed stuff is great (though I wish they hadn't used a dubstep mix of Splash Wave for OutRun Bay).

I'm looking forward to soldiering on and seeing more!

Played a pinch more today and it's still super fun. ;)

Regardless, I cannot wait to grab this on PC early next year. This game is going to look so good at a higher resolution and everything will be glorious at 60fps. Tons of great animations and such will benefit from the boost.
