Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed |OT| Everybody's Super Sonic Racing

I'm not really digging the roster this time. Some of the new characters are really cool, but a lot of the ones that were dropped were my favorites. :/

I agree, the base roster is kind of shit. The final character is a nice touch.

I would have liked something like the Final Boss of Segagaga - a console that transforms, say Mega Drive CD 32X to Saturn to Dreamcast or something. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Yz_Oi_6w0Q

This looks like a lot of fun!

Hmmm, too many games being released that weren't on my radar at all, but now....

uh, graphics are kinda shitty. Looks like a blurry mess (probably sub-720p)... frame rate seems bad and the motion blur is Halo Reach-esque levels of awful.

I'm trying to decide between the 360 version or the Wii U version. I would normally buy 360 but I want some Wii U games. But if the Wii U online sucks? Hmm...

I believe that title update should fix some glitches and lag as well as background music randomly cutting out. No idea if it's for more than that.

I just finished a race, I'm in the menus... and my controller is still rumbling full blast.

Smh. Dat Sumo seal of quality.

Yeah, I turned off the "rumbling" last night because it's very annoying... even when not glitching.
I normally like it in a racing game but it gets really painful in Transformed.

Gamefly already send out my copy for Wii U so I will post my review on Wii U Online. I want to see which system would be better before I purchase the game.

For those who've played it, can you do local-splitscreen career mode or something equivalent (4 players + CPU controlled cars racing on all tracks without having to select one manually after each race)? That was the thing that really annoyed me about the first game, waiting times in between races were very long because you had to go through the menus and loading times each time you wanted to play a new course.

Yes you can, they showcased it in a video some weeks ago.

Please, you must discover if there are bonus characters for Wii U like the PC ones! :D

Got my PS3 copy and I'm playing it right now.

So far, if you liked the first game, you'll love this one. The Panzer Dragoon track almost made my cry, pure nostalgia goodness :D. The game seems harder than first one, with Normal difficulty it's not so easy to win races. The fly & water segments are well done and they don't feel forced at all, since most of the time you're racing in the ground, the fly&water parts are like a bonus.

Gameplay is more or less the same. The game feels as responsive and precise, but it seems they nerfed the powersliding/turbo mechanics a bit. Which is great since you could spend the entire race powersliding and abusing turbo in the first game.

If you're in the main menu you will see that the game will allow for player 2-4 to join in from the start. Dunno if you can play 4-player time attack tho XP

Yeah I've just watched some PS3 footage on youtube, it was single player footage so it didn't show which racing modes were available with more players but I'm sure it will be covered in reviews soon.

Handheld versions in December.

And there is still no footage or screens or anything from the Vita version,so it seems like it got tons of problems(otherwise SEGA at least will show it on Sony blog).

Ugh, is this going to be a Black Ops kind of deal with the Vita edition?

I don't think it'll be that bad. I think that particular honor is going to the 3DS version.

Uh, console performance is bad enough, scaling it all down for the Vita is gonna be interesting, for sure.

I'm really disappointed with how ugly this is and just how bad the performance is. :(

Which version do you have?

I'm wondering this too, as in my experience and with everyone else I have talked to, PS3 or 360, seem to feel differently than him. The game isn't any graphical behemoth, but it's not as bad as he's making it sound or even close to it. That or his expectations are too high, as this game does run at a steady 27-30 FPS and while I do suspect it is sub-HD to help deal with everything going on screen in the game, it doesn't really look blurry to me, or at least not to the point it is really noticeable.

I'm playing on Xbox.

It looks like a circa-2007 Xbox 360 game. The lighting is flat, the game is almost assuredly sub-HD and the frame rate is awful. What makes it look worse, though, is the horrible motion blur. As I said before, it has a similar effect to Halo Reach which makes it look like ghosting more than blur. It's awful.

I really wish Sumo would have went the Codemasters route and developed this game around 60fps. F1 Race Stars looks and runs 10 times better than this.

I'm wondering if the Wii U version is going to look and perform any better.

That's actually the version I own, so I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you for now. The lighting looks great to me, some real great attention to shadows, time of day, and some very nice glow effects, especially in some stages (Casino Park, Starlight Carnival, and the Panzer Dragoon level come to mind). Frame Rate is fine and runs steady and the motion blur looks fine (not steller, but not horrible like you describe it). And I know I'm not alone in any of these opinions as well.

I am waiting for the Wii U version. I am so fucking excited. I haven't been this excited for a kart racer since...

...Never. My favorite kart racers ever, Diddy Kong Racing and Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, came as complete surprises as I didn't expect them to be good.

But with all of the positives of the first game in the series, and with how amazing the trailers and reactions have been, I need this RIGHT FUCKING NOW!

COME ON WII U, HURRY UP!

You disagree with me because you have lower standards.

If there is a sequel to this, I want Sega Japan working on it. That way we might get 60fps and a decent level of Sega fan service outside of achievement pictures.

I don't want to make this personal at all as an opinion is an opinion, but that excuse could be used anywhere to try and justify it, and just as easily it could be said that your standards are way too high, especially evident that you have done nothing but complain about the game for at least the last page, and I don't even agree with any of your 'complaints'.

The fan service, especially in how the stages are designed and the attention to detail, is great. The roster leaves some things to be desired, but the way music, characters, stages, and cameos are handled are really well done.

>Trusting Sega of Japan to do anything correctly in 2012.

Be careful what you wish for. Outside of Yakuza, their track record this generation has been abysmal.

Well, there was Valkyria Chronicles, and Sonic Team, while jumping into this generation with their worst foot forward (2K6 is legendarily bad), produced a genuinely fun little romp with Generations...

Although honestly, from what I've seen, I can't say as I agree with his opinions at all.

Weren't both Colors and Generations both DIMPs?

And Sega hates Valkyria Chronicles for some reason. I don't know why, I think they're great, but Sega won't do anything with them.

I have high standards also when it comes to these things which is why I asked which version you had. I was just about to leave home now to go pick up the PS3 version since I like the controller better but in my experience almost every multiplat game looks smoother on 360. I have both consoles but if 360 looks subpar in your opinion I suspect PS3 will run even worse.

So now I'm contemplating just waiting and seeing if the Wii U version will best both of them. I really want to play this game but I don't want to be dissapointed. If there's a possibility that Wii U can do 30fps locked (not 27fps) while minimzing motion blur (which I hate) then I would go for that instead.
