Also, I'm wondering if they'll sprinkle in a Sonic CD stage since they're dealing with time travel...
One can dream...

A classic stage for 2d sonic and .... a playable version of the anime opening for modern sonic !

*explodes in fangasms*

I never played sonic unleashed or colors, are the 3D from-behind gameplay like it was from those games? Isn't that acclaimed?

god dammit fuck you Sega, FUCK YOU

you come so close and you ruin the whole thing, why cant you make a game with just classic 2.5D stages ? Old-Sonic parts look fuckin great, and then you feel the NEED to take a crap on the game by adding unnecesary 3D new sonic shit. How is it that they dont notice that THIS is what's wrong with the games ? I thought they'd learn from the werewolf shit, but oh no.. lets keep adding some horrible completely unnecesary mechanic/gameplay-style at the end of our trailers to make the people who had hopes (from the beggining of said trailer) to curse out loud.

I hope that the gameplay is reasonable. Sonic has been off his stride a bit lately.

And I hope that it makes extensive use of blast processing.

You know all those retard kids who are only familiar with new Sonic? Well, they actually give Sega money, soooooo this way they get everyones dollar

Modern Sonic's gameplay certainly looks closer to Unleashed than Colors. Still not a bad thing.

Classic monitors and Robotnik, woo

edit: So much for making different games for different parts of the fanbase, though.

At the end of the day this generation of kids like new Sonic....end of story....
The game is literally split in two for both groups of fans, the young and the nostalgic

Sure, i kinda know the reason behind it, but people getting excited over this are scaring me, it looks like the ultimate heartbreak.

"OH GOD THIS GAME IS AWESOME IM HAVING SUCH A GOOD TIME NOSTALGI... WHAT NOW I NEED TO PLAY AS 3D CRAP SONIC ? FFFFFFFFFFUCK THIS SHIT!!!!!!!!!"

Its the ultimate trolling from SEGA, seriously, they are hanging the game we want on a stick and keeping it one or two feet away from us, while we desperately try to grab it.

Screens look fantastic, and the video looks pretty great as well. Sonic 1 was the first video game I ever owned, so it does fuel the nostalgia to see they totally nailed his look as well. Nice to see the little bugger as he should look in 3D :)

For what it's worth, at least those bits look nothing like Sonic 2006 and look everything like Sonic Colours, so chances are it will be half-awesome, half-pretty decent

Sonic Cycle: "Fool me six times, shame on me...."

I'm NOT buying into ANY hype until I see positive impressions of a retail copy!!

Day one purchase if they release a 2D shit-less version of the game. Please.. that gameplay trailer highlights what a complete mess modern sonic is. I actually enjoyed what I saw in the 2D segments.

Rent, otherwise.

What? What is wrong with Unleashed? Unleashed was visually beautiful down to the defined world locales and detail and atmosphere and music. Gameplay was tight. Forgetting Werehog, which wasn't "broken", just obnoxious, it's the best 3D Sonic next to SA1/Colors.
Completely agree with this. Also completely agree with your Twinsen avatar
*does the collected an item wobble*

Wait, there's no homing attack for classic Sonic right? Confirmed not to be in?
Classic Sonic has the abilities from the classic games (spin dash, better physics etc.) and Modern Sonic has his abilities from the Unleashed daytime levels/Colours. (homing attack, grinding rails etc.)
Both have their own stages, with Classic Sonic's stages focusing more on platforming, and Modern Sonic's stages focusing more on speed.

Sonic Generations ends with Modern Sonic realizing this was the event where he had the terrible accident that mutated him into the unfun boosting sliding beast he is today. Modern Sonic decides to spare Classic Sonic this fate, and erases the last 15 years of Sonic from history. Sega reboots the franchise. All is well.
This is so goddam beautiful. Modern Sonic finally redeemed.

I just noticed that at one point Modern Sonic rolled into a ball. That was odd; what purpose would it serve if he can speed boost through enemies?
Noticed that too. It seems he just automatically rolls whenever he hits a speed booster.

Why does Classic Sonic come out of a spin into run? Why do you hate spinning, Sega?

Footage looked really good, even the Modern Sonic bits. The jumps looked weird though, but I can't tell if he's jumping shorter/heavier or because the level design makes Sonic look smaller.

NO SEGA STOP PULLING ME IN AGAIN! PLEASE BREAK THE CYCLE

They did. It's called "Sonic Colors" it got great reviews and sold very well.

Everyone play the fucking game already and stop saying "Sonic Cycle"!

The remixed Green Hill Zone theme during the modern Sonic stages is very nice.

Also, the classic Sonic gameplay with 3D graphics still looks like it's awkward.

ITT: the cycle stays true to form.

It's like the pied piper is playing but I'm deaf so I'm the only one not following him.

Just hoping it's not another remake of Sonic 1/2 levels, 3 & Knuckles have so many varied levels that need love. And CD too.
Let's see a remade Ice Cap Zone or Mushroom Hill or Lava Reef or Hydrocity or...all of them?!

Speaking of CD, someone really has to work out how to port Sega CD stuff to PSN/XBLA, Genesis/MD ROMs are too easy, but Sega CD BIOS and all...oh it's TOO HARD!
Seriously, you guys don't even know how many people never played CD before. It's depressing.

Oh my god that's fucking amazing. I love the animations, the graphics, the art style, THE CLASSIC FUCKING SONIC. I love the way he runs! This is basically that Sonic HD thing but official!

edit; NOOOOO WHY IS THIS PRESS X TO WIN GAMEPLAY SEGMENT IN THERE?!

Screenshots and videos look nice, I'm able to enjoy both classic Sonic gameplay and speed/modern/whatever-style so I just hope this will be polished enough (lol).

GOD Damnit Sega. The Modern Sonic bits sound as shit as ever! When will you bloody well learn!? How many millenia will it take!?

Even if the classic bits are the best realisation of Sonic for the last fifteen years, it means that only fifty percent of the game will actually be playable. Damnit Sega!

Well that was the quickest Sonic Cycle yet, see you next game.

Oh thank god you gave it until the first vaguely negative word uttered in a preview.

I had a lot of fun with the daytime sections in Unleashed (360), so im actually quite excited for this.

Putting 'modern Sonic' next to awesome 90s Sonic does nothing but highlight how shit the modern design is, however.

Edit: Just saw the longer video. Dat music, and it looks awesome :o

The physics seem much better compared to Sonic 4. I can actually get a better sense of Sonic's weight and momentum just by looking at the video.

Still some wonkiness here and there. Like what's with being able to stop mid-stride and perform a spin dash? Seems kinda cheap; where's the risk/reward? And did he just uncurl after rolling off of a ramp? Hopefully I'm just misinterpreting what I'm seeing there. Also, the jumping looks off, like it's heavier or something. I dunno, it might work out in the end.

Other than that, I'm honestly pretty excited by the possibilities.

Looks like Classic Sonic borrowed Modern Sonic's sticky shoes. Not a good sign for the physics/level design. :\
Can't make more opinions until a playable demo is released later this year.
