Sonic Generations |OT| What Sonic can learn from Sonic

I hate these boss fights

I hate them so, so much

I'm about to ragequit on Egg Dragoon and just watch the ending on Youtube

Egg Dragoon's got a couple of glitchy spots, but it's not that hard... what's giving you trouble, exactly?

And if you really feel that way, honestly, as long as you've got the missions and stages available, you're not missing out on much. Time Eater on consoles/pc is a mess. Not impossible, just a mess. Just go back and explore the levels; if you've only gone through them once, you haven't seen even half of what they have to offer, I'm serious.

Playing on PC. I keep getting glitches that kill me in Egg Dragoon, wonky camera, etc. Know exactly what I have to do but the game keeps me from doing it. I'll give the rest of the game a miss and explore the older stages.

Am I crazy or do the levels get worse as the game continues?

There really is no "rest of the game" past cinemas. It's Egg Dragoon, Time Eater, and that's it. The clockwork area of the hub leading up to Time Eater is kind of neat, but that's about it.

And you are a little crazy. Rooftop Run is all sorts of excellent. And I'm a fan of Crisis City Classic.

Rooftop Run and Crisis City are fun, but Planet Wisp is only fun for the first half of each act.

The Rooftop Run levels are two of the best levels in the game, and keep replaying Crisis City because those two levels were great too. Edit: Oh yes, Action Master is a stroke of brilliance.

I can't really defend half of Planet Wisp or the final boss, though.

I bet you Other M is better. At least that looks playable.
I can confidently say that Other M is infinitely better than Sonic 06. Other than that one game ending bug, the voice direction and the script, Metroid: Other M is playable.

Speaking of which, I wouldn't be surprised if Anth0ny gave up on Sonic 06 after Shadow kicked Silver in the back of the head.

I have a brother who seriously thinks Other M is worse than Sonic 06.

I really don't get how people think a mediocre game is a worse game than a giant piece of unplayable shit.

EDIT: PS, I purposely picked the PS3 version of 06 aka the even more broken version. HOO BOY! Can't wait to scream in agony.

EDIT 2: I really really hate begging or rushing people but any idea when the Sonic Community thread comes out? If you guys actually need help, I won't mind helping out!

The Community thread is coming! It's almost done, actually. I don't want to rush Shadiwulf. I also still need a title.

I really don't see how that works. Other M isn't a very good Metroid game, but it definitely isn't on the same level as Sonic 06. Sonic 06 is a fucking trainwreck.

Other M was... um... actually, I think the scenario was gravely mishandled and lacked appropriate flashbacks in order to give proper context to scenes that people generally disliked. I have some issues with the game part of it, but I was more or less alright with the game part. It isn't a mess like Sonic 06 was, that's for sure.

I have the PS3 version of Sonic 06 since that's the only HD platform I have!

Just practice the level and memorize it so when you do get tot the wind part you can just adapt to the way it's blowing.

I thought all the city levels were fun in their own way.

Crisis City classic has to by my favorite song and level for classic sonic, so fun.

I liked Crisis City, probably my third favourite level after GHZ and CP. Planet Wisp blew balls though. Nice to look at, but so boring. The other two city stages were also shit.

You better not be talking about City Escape, bro!

City Escape was a tad shit, but at least it was better than Speed Highway *vomits*

City escape is better than the level on SA2 but still not good enough i find this levels ( original ) bland .. Here it's better ( more technical on classic version at least )
Crisis city is garbage ( original ) , here it's better on modern version ..but the last part of classic is just stupid.. i don't care that i have to follow the sign further in the stage but why is the level crumbling ????? i have moving platforms, wind that prevent you from jumping like you want and the level that disapear ?? ( WHO is the moron who tought that was a good idea ??? ) ..It's even more annoying that the rest of the level design in the level is quite well done

Speed highway on SA was perfect . Here it's just Ok ... some nice ideas overall but the original is still my favorite.

Speed Highway wasn't bad but... it really had no place. It wasn't really an interesting city level compared to the rest of the city levels. They should of have went with Icecap instead just to please both Sonic 3 and Sonic Adventure fans.

ice cap or the ruins would have been great from sonic adventure.

City escape Classic is pretty good, Modern on the other hand is pretty poor when you actually take a good look the level design and probably the weakest modern stage, it's in contention with Planet Wisp which has higher highs and lower lows thanks to the rocket spam section at the end.

The music in the classic one makes me want to bust a move

The reason I think the later levels are shittier is probably because I have no idea what games they came from. I stopped playing the mainline Sonics after SA2.

If you like Modern Sonic's gameplay then I recommend Sonic Colors. (Unfortunately, Generations version of Planet Wisp sucks. Definitely not the best representation of that game.)

Speed Highway had some real nice shortcuts and drifting sections. I much preferred it over City Escape. The board section at the beginning didn't handle well at all IMO, and the truck portion at the end was kinda... lame. Pretty much just non-stop boost.

Rooftop run was real polished and well designed - possibly my favorite level in the game. Crisis City was great for the sheer amount of platforming, though I found some of the 2D sections dragged on a bit (Granted, i only played it once so maybe there are shortcuts).

The only correct answer for 'Worst stage' is Planet Wisp. Not just bad comparably... just bad. Which is too bad because it starts out alright.

People are hating on Crisis City in here? I'm disappointed in you. Just take your time. Use Homing Attack to practice in Classic, but then try doing it vanilla. You'll have already memorized the level and when not to move when the wind blows. Modern is pretty easy if you're patient and practice (though I'll concede that the beginning of the level when you're going down the slope is lol until you get the timing right).

Speed Highway ended up being fun to speed through after much practice with both Sonics.

City Escape just makes me happy because ... I like singing along... >.>

I remember not being a big fan of Crisis City on my first two runs but when you get the level design it becomes leaps and bounds better and one of the most fun. The stage is still the most noticeably "iffy" stage for lack of a better term with some kind of shaky sections that can cause some deaths that feel a bit unjust.

Speed Highway is great, lots of various paths, especially in the modern version. Probably my favourite of the city selection.

That's a fair point. Some of the platforming can be iffy. I recall... one time when you have to run down the collapsing building? I decided to spindash off of it, and for some reason I spindashed right into a pit because I guess I didn't let it load properly. :/

The two Crisis City themes are probably two of my favourite remixes in the game, though.

I would never be caught singing along with City Escape. *crosses arms*

Humming, on the other hand...
C'mon...

Rollin' around at the speed of sound
Got places to go, gotta follow my rainbow

Can't stick around, have to keep moving on...

After trying to get all the Red Rings in Act 2 of City Escape, I never, ever want to hear 'Escape From the City' ever again.
I will tell you that those first three Red Rings are the worst. I restarted the level when I didn't get them.

And in other news, Crush 40 posted on their Facebook what they're giving away with the Sonic Generations OST if you buy it from Jun Senoue's site:

UuT3z.jpg

Dat guitar pick. (if I use it, it'll probably get lost like all my other guitar picks, lol. It doesn't have a grip, though. My fingers are small so I prefer using the grip ones.)

Not entirely related, but replaying Sonic 4's Casino Street (... as you do), did anybody ever noticed the blurry SONIC THE PORTABLE sign on the background's Ferris wheel?

CONSPIRACY THEORY TIM-okay it's incredibly obvious this started off as a cheap iPhone game, but just thought it was a funny oversight.

Speaking of iphone version I bought it for 59p over christmas and holy shit the old version of the game is so bad, it's not that far off the delayed console versions but the casino pinball table stage is beyond bad and the chasing walls in labrynth and mad gear, seriously bullshit stuff, they are faster and should not belong in a sonic game to begin with.

I have sonic cd to fall back on to before I destroy my ipod over rage so all is well.

incredibly obvious, huh? whatever helps you cope. if anything, using "PORTABLE" suggests it could have been a PSP game.

Man I sure love playing Sonic 4 on my PSP.
It has levels blatantly designed around the analog nub and everything

I need to get that guitar pick. I just bought like 20 but that one looks great!
His guitars are interesting to look at.

PRp9g.jpg

Apparently the Shadow guitar (the one behind the Sonic guitar) is a Viper SL. ...which means that the longer neck allows the guitar to produce heavier sounds. Take that for what you will.

The Sonic guitar is here. But I think they were just taking orders for up to December.

Modern is small time .i'm doing all the stages in order so i didn't play planet wisp to get the red rings so i don't have the homing attack for classic sonic yet maybe i should just play this level as super sonic and get over it ...

Right my 360 controller adapter arrived, I completed a few challenge gates and have cleared Green Hill, Chemical Plant and Sky Sanctuary. Classic Sonic is good, Modern Sonic is (with a few exceptions) shite.

The boss battle was clumsy but the nostalgia sold it to me, as did the Metal Sonic Race.

However, I've just seen that the rest of the levels are from the shit games, and my enthusiasm for continuing has literally plummeted off a cliff. I think I was tolerating the games significant weaknesses due to a combination of nostalgia, and some wonderfully realised art and sound design in levels I actually cared about from the golden age of Sonic.

Knowing that I now have to trudge through the generic real-world garbage of Sonic Adventures/Shadow/2006/etc has basically killed my interest in progressing.

I'll see how I feel tomorrow though.

So what's the fix?

The only "fix" I discovered is to just use my Xbox 360 controller instead of my Dualshock 2.

That fourth one down with Sonic on the couch doesn't count. He's giving that evil look on purpose cuz it's Eggman in Sonic's body.

Giving derpy eyes with a shiteating grin is what qualifies as an evil look?

That just kind of makes it even worse to me.
