Ok so looking to upgrade to a new laptop that can run this game.

Would these specs be enough?

Processor Quad-Core AMD A8-3500M (2MB L2 cache)
Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit
RAM 6GB
Graphics card AMD Radeon HD 6620G Discreet-Class

I'd ask on the Steam/Sonic Gen forums just to be safe.

Green Hill Zone
Sky High Zone
Gigapolis Zone
Sunset Park Zone
Casino Paradise

Machine Labyrinth

eh? eh?

Here's mines I've thought of a while ago.

Green Hill
Underground
Gigalopolis
Sunset Park
Ice Mountain
Music Plant
Cyber Track
Night Carnival
Pirates' Island
Asteroid Coaster
Clockworks Zone (Original. Would be really cool to have a level for the Time Eater.)

I really like your Advance Era levels better.

Is it weird that I like just standing outside of the Planet Wisp Zone for ages just to listen to the loop music for that stage?

Been doing some more online matches on the 3DS version.
Forcing you to unlock profile card backings at random is the worst thing.
So far I've mostly only unlocked shithouse games like Riders, Black Knight, and Episode 1.

What a bitch the final boss secret achievement is. Advice?

Honestly, I found the hardest part was the first section.
The homing shots are laughably easy to dodge, and you never really need to switch to Classic Sonic until the 3rd section when he preps his giant laser shot. Keeping your rings will be the hardest part of it all.

It's pretty easy when you get used to his attacks.

First, change the music if you haven't already to something that'll put you in the zone. The final boss music is depressing and it doesn't do much to put you in the mood to defeat the boss at all. I recommend Live and Learn or What I'm Made Of. Also, take the subtitles off if you have them on.

Second, stay in Modern Sonic's perspective for most of the battle until you have to switch. HOLD boost. Do not take your thumb off Boost unless you hit an obstruction. I can tell you right now that hitting debris will not influence the trophy, but it is best to not hit debris at all because if you do, you will lose momentum.

You can either memorize the locations of the debris (this is what I did) to take a better path to avoid them, or you can use Classic Sonic to destroy them.

Third, keep boosting into ring lines. You can easily accumulate over 120 rings in this stage if you boost in the right places.

Fourth, boost into the Time Eater as quickly as possible for the first time, preferably before he uses Homing Attack. But if he's about to use Homing Attack, back off, dodge the missiles (stay in one spot and when the missiles get close, then move quickly around). For his hand attacks (which is the first thing he uses, just go up to the ceiling of the vortex. He won't get you; you may also switch to Classic Sonic's perspective so the hand will go in an entirely different direction).

For his clap attack, when you're about to hit him.
1) When you want to hit him for the first time, and if you're too slow (this goes for nearly every clap attack, actually; I've had instances where he never used it because I was too fast in getting to the core), he'll attack you with his bottom two hands. When you get hear him, stay up where his hands can't reach (don't let go of boost) and move back down to hit his core.
2) After hitting him once, he'll use his bottom hands again. Repeat what you did for (1).
3) After the second attack, he'll use his bottom hands and will now use his top hands. Stay below him this time to avoid the attacks and charge into the core.
4) After the third attack, keep up with him, but you don't need to hit the core. Dodge everything he throws at you, keep up your ring count and he'll use the Meteor attack. Keep your hands on the L1+R1/LT+RT and don't let go.

For Slow, he'll use this in his third phase. There's nothing you can do about this, but stay in Modern Sonic's perspective. If you feel like the missiles are too close, switch to Classic Sonic's perspective (back and forth) to watch the missiles hilariously go off-course.

Finally, for Laser, stop holding boost. I mean it. When he's almost finished charging it up, switch to Classic Sonic's perspective like so and the laser will hilariously go off-course.

It takes a little practice and memorization, but you'll be able to pull it off.

you talking about the one on SonicWrecks, or all the ones I quoted for Mama Robotnik? The ones I quoted for Mama Robotnik are from his interviews throughout the year of 2011. lol.

I forgot one though.. hang on...
The SonicWrecks one.

But the last final quote is definitely unforgettable! It's been carved into my memory.

WAT

I thought it did, so I kept going until I didn't get hit by a single thing. :(

I was a dummy and got hit by debris once in the second phase of the fight (too bad I didn't have any lives left; I suicide or start over whenever I do something wrong in the battle), and at the end, miraculously I got the trophy. @_@

I tried not to get hit often because I noticed that I lost speed and had to try to boost again to catch up. Getting hit ends up being inefficient, so it's best to either avoid the debris or get rid of it with Classic Sonic.

See, I had heard that it didn't affect the trophy but every time I hit a piece of debris, I never got the trophy. (Retried about 30 times with the same results) Finally managed to do it without getting hit by debris, and I got the trophy. Weird.

Did you get hit by any of the Time Eater's attacks? I usually hear something that sounds "visceral" whenever I got hit by the laser or one of the 2-3 Homing Attack spams. I unfortunately did not play this with a controller that had a vibration feature (lol, old Sixaxis controller), but I have to wonder if getting hit by his attacks cause a vibration at all.

I did get caught by missiles while I was attacking the core, though, and they still register as hits. That's why I suggested that when he's about to use the Homing Attack, back off and don't strike the core yet.

Did anyone else around here hit debris head-on and still got the trophy/achievement?

I managed to avoid all of Time Eater's attacks (the hand attacks, the laser, the homing shots I was *constantly* warned about) but almost always got hit by a piece of debris in the second phase of the battle.

And yeah, getting hit by debris causes a vibration on a DS3.

That's so weird. :O

Looking around, it seems like the debris didn't count for a lot of people (ie: GameFAQs, trophy/achievement sites), so maybe it does for some cases? *shrug*

Either way, better to not get hit by it because slows you down anyway.

Thanks for all the advice. Sounds like it's a slog not worth doing though, whatever, I'm doing it since it's my last achievement minus getting all skills.

I guess now would be a good time to post my final thoughts.

Good points:

1) Classic and Modern Sonic are both well done.
2) Stage variety (not theme choice) is also well done, almost completely, apart from Planet Wisp which just regurgitates the same method of stage progression for 2/3 of it (the opening area is actually very nice).
3) Voice acting non-offensive, imo, though transitions from cutscenes are a little stilted.
4) Skills 'loadouts' are cool.
5) Genuinely great soundtrack. One of the best from 2011, arguably the.
6) Hub world is unique and simple. How did Edge find it 'confusing'?
7) Challenge missions, bar
friend-focused challenges
, are good.

Bad points:

1) Shitty compression - or whatever it is - on 2 or 3 cutscenes, which look dire, at least on the 360 version.
2) Final boss was lazy and uninspiring. Honestly, I'm surprised they didn't do a compilation of the bosses from the series as one big boss, with Time Eater forcing you through time as each boss is done with (of course, each would take less hits). Would have fit the time travel theme very well. Doomsday Zone for the final showdown anyone?
3) Modern Sonic does not control well when exploring. Almost feels like he's gliding.
4) Classic Sonic momentum-based rolling does not exist.
5) No Classic Amy or Knuckles. Should have been in-game.
6) Sonic 3/& Knuckles not represented separately.

If Sonic does get redesigned soon, personally I'd like it be a minor tweak with more elements of Classic Sonic incorporated (not like the figurine, which is nice but looks rushed). Maybe something like the concept art of the original modern design that is in-game. That would be good.

I also think any redesign would be great if they focused on a 60/40 - or even 50/50 - split between 2D and 3D. Would be a good way to bring everything together, but honestly I don't think any of this will happen. If that's the case, then I don't get the point in any redesign.

And I got the final Red Ring with His World playing on Planet Wisp. Can say I quite enjoyed it!

"Modern" Sonic gameplay is fantastic. They got it right in Unleashed, and refined it and made it better in Colors.

Then they got skeptics to check it out by throwing in classic Sonic with it.

So I rented the 3DS version today, and after 3 hours of play (penultimate level), I really, really dislike it.

There are so many unavoidable insta-deaths in levels like Tropical Resort, it becomes so frustrating..I'm pretty terrible at expressing how I feel about a game in writing, but I seriously do not reccomend this game, unless you actually enjoy Sonic Rush gameplay with bad physics and graphics.

edit: I reached the final boss and would like to retract my earlier statement...I freaking hate this game. I feel annoyed that I even wasted a rental on it. 3hrs 24 mins of shit.

The console/PC version is execllent on the other hand, I really think they hit the nail on the head with it

The final thing they have to figure out with modern / 3D Sonic is curves. It's still not natural feeling to take turns IMO, and you end up with the character feeling fiddly, or scraping guardrails in a way that looks janky.

They need some kind of Ridge Racer style invisible drifting spline that locks Sonic in when you start to hit a curve, but still allows the player to adjust steering within a range.

Ironically, Metroid: Other M did this with the character and long curved passages. You could run and jump forward without ever adjusting your angle and smoothly sail through curves. But you still had control of your left-right direction if you manually adjusted it.

Wut? it was already right in Sonic Adventure 2. Yea it could've been better, but some of the best 3D levels were from that game (as well as SA1) before Colors came out.

.

that's a neat idea i'm all for it if only it occurs after some speed is attained ( no need for on-rail stuff )

I'm starting to join the "Ok, if they're going to do DLC, they need to at least start talking about it a bit" crowd. And I don't mean Casino Night, which is still missing from Steam by the way (along with Sonic CD).

Sometimes I love this game, sometimes I hate it. Perfect Chaos was a massive piece of shit. Nearly rage quitted.

I thought Perfect Chaos was great. If you play the stage right you can stay completely in 3D and never run out of boost energy. Hard Mode Perfect Chaos is probably my favorite boss in the entire game.

Just finished the game.

Outside of the Wisp City and the final boss, really loved it. More great Modern Sonic and I finally started to feel Classic.

Really tried to force myself to like this game. I actually did like a lot of it, but some areas and the boss fights felt like a chore to finish.

I can't really picture what could have been so frustrating. The only easy place to really die is on the ground ramps surrounded by water, and that's only if you're not boosting while on water. Other than that, boost through Chaos for an easy hit. Where did you have problems?

Was enjoying this up until the third set of levels, where it completely took a nose dive, which is a shame.

Pushing my way through though, hopefully perseverance pays off.
