Sonic Generations |OT| What Sonic can learn from Sonic

Generations is short only if you're doing the main "storyline" bit. They try and stretch it out a little bit with having to collect three "boss keys" per era but even with that, it takes maybe 4 hours to see the credits.

The good news is, if you really want to keep playing Sonic Generations after those credits are over, I'd say more than 75% of the game's content is completely optional.

It's like Mario 64 if you only had to get 1 star per stage in order to face final Bowser.
And 100% okay with that. You could easily beat the old Sonic games in an hour or so and I'd gladly pay $50-$60 for remakes of all of those.

The game is really good. Definitely the best non-portable Sonic game since S&K.

Classic stages are fun, modern stages are....eh, take it or leave it.

Hopefully we get more 'Classic' Sonic games in the future.

So is there a list of all the alternate/unremixed tracks yet? I just want to hear Windmill Isle in the Spagonia stage... because if they can squeeze a little bossa nova in with all of this other incredible stuff I'll be in ecstacy.
WI's BGM is in the files. Dunno what stage it's available for.

I played a little more this morning. I was reminded that the console versions would benefit from more AA. It's a little hard to look at sometimes.

Oh and those low quality pre-rendered videos are atrocious.

Are all of the cutscenes pre-rendered? That was the same approach they made with Colors.

No. Most of the cutscenes are realtime, actually. Only a select few are pre-recorded.

They could use a higher resolution more than anything else. Still, compared to Colors last year, this is a huge improvement visually.

The funny thing about Sonic Colors' controls; the other day I was replaying it but decided to use the Classic controller. Things were more sluggish than usual. So I switched back to the Wiimote + Nunchuck and BAM! Responsive again.

Conclusion: Play Sonic Colors w/ Wiimote + Nunchuck, get better results.

Even though I've been a Sonic fan since the 90s, and as much as I adore these classic stages, I'm enjoying the modern stages even more. I'm glad they aren't on rails as much as previous modern Sonic games. There are points where you have to stop and do some careful, slow jumps, decide which direction to go, and then you're rewarded by a boost section.

Also, that audio effect when you boost for a long time and the music sorta fades into the distance is epic! It's as if Sonic is literally faster than sound.

Listening to the OST in anticipation of release tomorrow...

HO.LY. SHIT.

Edit: wow, bit of a missed opportunity with that Chemical Plant 'classic' "remix" :/

As for SA2, I loved the Sonic portions of the game and didn't mind the Tails/Eggman levels either, but the controls are extremely twitchy and there is too much filler.

Sonic Generations, for me, absolutely crushes both of these games. The level design is almost 100% great and the controls are the best in 3D Sonic history. I'm completely surprised by the reactions from some people.

Adventure controls are twitchy? Have we been playing the same game? Unleashed style controls are the definition of twitch gameplay.

Sonic Adventure 2 Sonic/Shadow stages are still the peak of 3D Sonic gameplay imo.

Finally started the game, the hub world place is pretty nice. I dislike how small red coins are. Modern Sonic sections are all fun.

Only qualm are the janky graphics, the opening scene at the title screen seems to like jitter or something, and the graphics during the cutscenes dont seem as polished as Sonic Colors.

What? Unleashed was where they started lessening the degree of control you had the faster Sonic moved, which was what made high-speed sections playable. Its almost impossible for me to make course corrections in Adventure 1/2.

I'm getting my copy of the game hopefully later today, but I have to ask about DLC, even if I feel bad about asking about it this early...

- Is the
Casino Night
DLC out yet for non-preorder users to purchase?
- Is anything planned beyond that?

I'm excited to give this a shot. Does anyone know how the 3D is on the 360 version? I tried it on the PS3 demo months ago, and I noticed some pretty bad frame rate problems. I was hoping it got fixed for retail.

Holy shit, guys, this game is just too fucking good.

There's no word to describe how mindblown I am at this moment. I just finished Seaside Hills.

I love how they made so many paths to these levels, each level designs are brilliant.
I love how they remixed so many songs, listening to each themes is just nostalgia cocaine, giving me chills down my spine and hype stages after stages.
I love how it feels good being a Sonic fan all those years after playing this.

SO MANY COLLECTIBLES!

This game is just so fulfilled of success, its ridiculously unbearable. I feel like Egoraptor talking about MMX, but man, IT IS GOOD. Hah, the best in all of this is that I have many other levels to discover! :DDD

You did it good SEGA this time, you made it fucking good to play Sonic. This is my GOTY!

Only downside: I'm playing the PS3 version, and these slowdowns and freezing are kinda annoying, but these happens only at specific times. hope SEGA will patch this up, Bayonetta style!

XD

I'm glad you enjoy the game, though I wouldn't say that surprises me AT ALL *pokes*
It's a good game. You were right to push me into buying this. Your fast playthrough of modern day green hill zone last Friday kinda convinced me.

I'm up to the first boss. I went to sleep before I could unlock a third key. First 3 levels were a pleasure to get through. There's not a lot of reason to bitch about this game. You know how much I love to nitpick Sonic games just to engage your nerdrage mode. Well, can't really do that now can I ?

I'll bring my 360 this Friday so we can friendly compare both versions and dual play this fucking game.

Extremely twitchy. When running forward in Sonic Adventure 2, just moving the analog stick a millimeter to the left or right sends you careening into the wall. Don't get me wrong, I loved the game (managed to unlock nearly everything and reach the Green Hill remake stage), but the controls weren't as tight as they could have been. Unleashed and Generations are so much more playable by comparison.

Adventure 1 shouldn't even be discussed here as controls are irrelevant in the face of such buggy, unfinished, and poorly designed software.

I've hated every Sonic game released since Sonic Adventure 2, and yes, I have played all of them. I cannot hate this game. It's good. What the fuck.

I think once I wrap up all the challenges here I'm gonna go back and finish up collecting all the sun/moon medals in Unleashed. So close to that achievement.

In regards to activating the enhancements, do they only work once (meaning "1 time") when enabled? For instance: I enabled Sonic's "quick recovery after losing rings" enhancement (or whatever it was called). IIRC, I got hit once, and I immediately got up. Then I got hit again and it was a slow recovery....or maybe I'm remembering it wrong.

Anyway, does the enhancement last throughout the level or it just a one-time deal?

I'm absolutely loving the game but does anyone else find it to be a little too easy?
I've gotten S Ranks on 10 of the 13 stages I've played so far on my first try!

Oh, and for anyone who didn't get the Casino Night Zone DLC, it's quite good!
Sure, it's not a full-on extra stage but it is a fairly well-designed pinball stage with a few hidden paths and bonus areas.

Here's hoping the 3DS version is great as well!

Anybody messing around with the music in stages? Endless Possibility works so well on City Escape. I dunno, maybe I just really like the song.

This game is so good!

Classic Sonic's so god damn cute. He's just there to have a good time, man. He doesn't care about making witty comebacks or new items or whatever. Even on his rival battles, in the cut scenes, he's all like' whatever bitch'

I'll try to change the themes to fit certain challenges, that way every track gets used...hopefully.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
I was going to hold off on picking this up because of the length, but the amazon price is making me reconsider...

I got the game through gamefly yesterday and played the first two areas... so far i love it... this is the 3D sonic i've been waiting for.

Honestly if Sega can merge the formula of both classic and modern sonic going forward... and add more features for replay value.. Sonic will be right back up there with the greats again.

good job sonic team!

I just recently changed Speed Highway Modern to It Doesn't matter.. god that was epic! XD

I hope Starlight Zone is unlockable, that would be really epic for Speed Highway classic.

So in Australia, steam says I have to pay $50 USD for this... that makes no sense ._.

Anywhere I can get it cheaper in Australia? And perhaps boxed, preferably, as downloading 11GB doesn't sound too pleasing. I mean, I can and will do it if I have to lol, but that means I probably wont get to play until Sunday instead of Friday D:
Either get someone to gift it or buy it from another DD site like GMG or something. The boxed copy comes out at the very end of the month (the 25th).

Is it an unlockable. Don't know if it's for Speed Highway though.

I changed the music in the

hmmm, i dont think that would matter? far as I've noticed the music isn't locked to specific zones. Unless it's a mission specific music? that would suck xP
