Sonic Lost World Wii U Exclusive

The only thing I can think of that might be semi open-world is if the world map is like a giant 'game-board, and you hop between levels on the world map (hexagon by hexagon) to make your progress to different story locations on the world. The hexagons are just regular levels and completing them makes that sector of the world 'complete'.

Based on the one screen we have and the sort of 'lost world' theme, and the weird hexagon thing going on, its just my personal guess of how it might be tackled. It would allow people to take different routes through completing the game and add replay value. I was thinking about it since each hexagon on the concept art piece has a different theme, and none of them are crossing over, and some seem to be islands.

According to a few people, SEGA for a short time accidentally leaked some stuff on their Facebook page before quickly taking it down.

According to them, full details are supposed to come May 29th (as that was when the press release was dated) and these were some details:

"The sonic Facebook page just leaked a picture of the lost world, six “guardians”,
And the announcement that sega and Nintendo are forming an “exclusive partnership” for three games."

"The Facebook page accidentally leaked 3 pictures of the game with important information:
- Full details will be announced on the 29th.
- the lost world (not worlds) is a partially unfinished planet seemingly made of hexagon tiles.
- the game has six “guardians” who may be friends or foes- only their outlines are shown but they look very cartoony, like characters from Rayman.
- most importantly, Sega and Nintendo have entered an exclusive partnership for Sonic’s next three games.
These photos should still be accessible, they’re just not in posts but rather in the picture gallery itself."

open world might be kinda awesome done right. given what colors and generations were, i doubt they'll go that direction.

I'm a huge advocate for open world Sonic, but there are definitely risks with Sega doing that. I really think they will stick close to their current design for now.

All-Stars Transformed is one of the best racing games - and games in general - that I've played. No sadness here.

I wasn't saying anything about the game, it's really well made. I just don't like Sonic having a car.

Are the pics available somewhere?

A bit off topic, now that sega owns CoH, I think it can be a well suited game for the gamepad, in fact all strategy, RTS games are a good fit for the Wii U.

It's not a pre-Sonic announcement/exposure period without Sega spoiling themselves. :lol

Tomoya Ohtani has pretty much been in charge of the soundtracks since like Rush Adventure or Unleashed. Id be shocked if he wasnt in charge of this one.

Sonic Colors sound director was Kenichi Tokoi if Im not mistaken, although that OST was half Tokoi half Ohtani (and thats why is an awesome OST).
Generations sound director was Senoue though. Ohtani only did Crisis City and Roftop Run (and Tokoi Planet Wisp).

there will be a demolition derby mode.

i want this game.

If that happened I'd think the pics would've already made their way here. Surely someone saved the pics if it actually happened.

This announcement just got me to buy a Wii U for sure. Impressive how hard Nintendo's backing these games; they must be impressed with SOMETHING. Minus the possibility of easy sales with the olympics game of course.

Sonic Colors was so great. This is really a system seller for me. That picture is gorgeous too. Can't wait to play this.
Yeah. I'd always said that the only way to get me to buy a Wii U is either through a Sonic or Zelda game, and alas...

I still want to wait, though.

Don't worry, Beef.

There'll be plenty of Chao Garden for you. <3

Beef, I'm so sorry. :(

At least you can throw them and kick them around if it's possible?

You and me both brother. The more Sonic CD is this game the better.
As long as we don't get some Wacky Workbench level design, that'd be great.

Though to be fair, after speedrunning through those three acts several times, I don't think it's that bad, but yeah... no Wacky Workbench, sweetheart.

Wacky Workbench strikes me as a level concept that'd be less infuriating in 3D than 2D.
In theory, youd have camera control to see wheres what, and being launched in the air is, forgive the worn out term, more 'visceral' in 3d than 2d.

I actually liked that level being a change of pace. Consider me a heretic.

I got Sonic CD (the little planet) and Sonic 3+K (the geometric/segmented shapes art direction for the actual planet and natural environments) vibes looking at the art. Could be something really nice looking if it all works out.

Sonic CD is the best sonic game so I hope it has big influence

That's a good point.

I do get the feeling that something like this:

...would work easier in 3D, partially because you wouldn't be able to pass through the platforms, right? It'd be easier to re-orient yourself too because, as you said, the camera would assist you in regaining your footing. I don't know if they'd be able to keep so many hazards around in 3D as well. It'd probably be easier to platform on some of the moving platforms as well since I get the feeling that they'd be bigger as well.

Dang, I love Sonic CD.

Hmm... I wonder what the special stages in this game will be like.

Did anyone else like Generations 3DS better than the console version?
Only the final boss. The rest of it was inferior to the console version to me. Though to be fair... 6 months.

Because I could type far worse things than what I am writing...

I mean, exclusivity deals with the Wii U? Ubisoft and Tecmo have already changed their mind, why would SEGA pursue this?
