Sonic Lost World Wii U Exclusive

This isn't hugely significant, but it can't hurt. It's a big enough deal that I wouldn't discount it totally, mainly because Sonic fans are a pretty hardcore lot.

I think it is more significant in terms of what it might represent in terms of Nintendo trying to moneyhat Japanese developers in order to secure a baseline level of third party support for Wii U. Obviously things are coming off the rails now in a big way for the Wii U and this might be our first glimpse of Nintendo's desperation strategy. If we see a lot more of this kind of thing with other developers around E3 time, then we will know. They definitely have a massive amount of money to spend on these kinds of endeavors if they want.

Personally I am just hoping the game is good. I would love to play a truly awesome AAA 3D sonic game at some point in the future. If the game is good enough, it would definitely add an incentive for me to buy a Wii U.

I mean, if a system has games you want, shouldn't it be a system you want? Regardless of anything to do with the hardware itself, systems are ultimately judged on their library so if the games are there you should be too.

STOP ANNOUNCING THESE GAMES I WANT I DON'T WANT YOUR SYSTEM is a weird angle to take.

THIS.

I can't get it, why would someone want a GAME system, if not, for the games?

"Damn this console keep getting all the games I want, but hey I don't want to buy it, because...because....I'm cooler than that!"

I just dislike any moneyhatting a 3rd-party to make a multiplatform game an exclusive. There's really nothing suggest the game would have been exclusive w\o the 'agreement' (why would there be need of one if Sega decided independently decided to make it an exclusive?).

Moneyhatting is the lowliest conduct a platform-holder can make and probably the worst aspect of 'console wars'. Especially in this case where Nintendo did a lousy job with the Wii U so far so they resort to securing an exclusive to try and attract ppl to get the console.

Use the money to fund your games from the ground up; not to moneyhat a MP game for exclusivity.

First, who said the game would be multiplatform?

You should just ask an admin to add a "l" to your user name.

You know, when I first saw this on the Nintendo Direct I thought it wouldn't be controversial at all...

I really didn't see the reaction of some coming

It's up to the platform-holder to make thier platform as appealing as possible. There is nothing lowly about money hatting or more righteous in funding games from the ground up.

Sonic should not just be available on such an obsolete console like the WII U.

Does SEGA not realize that there numerous veteran adult Sonic fans that can afford to purchase these Sonic games? As opposed to younger children who have to ask their parents, who can in turn say NO and therefore losing a customer.

The Wii U is a bad console and Sonic's future CANNOT and SHOULD NOT rest in the hands of Nintendo....Be careful SEGA...you are making a horrible decision......

WHAT?

Oh my...

So I don't think has been made clear: Is Nintendo involved at all with the development of this game or is it just an exclusive publishing deal?

Sorry if old:

"With 'Sonic Lost World,' we're going to introduce new gameplay and enemies, which is always fun," said John Cheng, president and chief financial officer of Sega of America Inc. "In terms of Sonic and his friends, he'll have his same friends there, and I think there'll be some new ones as well. It's not a reiteration. It's going to be all new."

Last fall, Nintendo launched the next generation of gaming consoles with the Wii U, which comes with a tabletlike controller called the GamePad. Nintendo said last March it has sold 3.45 million units worldwide, a disappointing start for the first of a new generation of gaming systems. Sega's Cheng believes bringing Sonic exclusively to the Wii U will help Nintendo.
"It should be a win-win situation," said Cheng. "Don't count Nintendo out."

The sonic cycle begins.

knuckles is my favorite character and i don't even want knuckles right now. just get rid of the shitty friends already

haven't heard of a nintendo published game where they didn't get somewhat involved. i'm sure they're spread so thin right now that 'nintendo involvement' isn't going to mean a whole lot outside of decent quality

More worried about this part, myself. Not as much as I would be a few years back, but it's only been 2.5 not-shitty main games in a row, which is technically not enough to not get worried :V

Until theres word that they're playable Im going to assume they'll be as harmless as Chip or Yakker
i.e. practically nonexistent and completely ineffectual to the gameplay if you skip all the cutscenes

No reason to get worried about a game where literally all we know for sure is the name, one image, and a guy going "This new game? It will have new stuff in it"

The "new friends" sentence also worries me. Please SEGA you have made so much progress since the werehog days on unleashed, don't revert back to gimmicks like that in my fast paced sonic action

When you bring Yakker up, I wonder who's writing the script, then.

There's 'good' and 'bad' practices to make your platform appealing. Paying a 3rd party to switch a MP game to exclusive falls under the latter for me.

As far as this Sonic game, it's stands to reason if would have been MP. The last Sonic games were, and i don' think Sega or any other 3rd party is clamoring to make Wii U exclusives considering its sales. Why is there a need for an agreement if the games were going to be exclusives anyhow?

I hope they're stepping away from the Unleashed/Colors/Gens formula, two years of development since Gens should be a sign of a change, if it was a similar game they could've had it for launch or right now in Spring ala Secret Rings.

I want an Adventure-style game with real platforming, and add Chao Gardens while you're at it.

I do appreciate the obviously varied environments; you have a Forest, Ice, Lava, Desert, and Water/Island levels as shown on the planet.

Colors' levels were just minor variations on Space, I know the whole game took place in space, but they could've had planets based on said tropes.

And Gens was just "Rehash: The Game". XD Only Time Eater was unique and people hated it on PS360 (on 3DS it was better received seemingly). I'm all for remade levels, but as bonuses ala Green Hill Zone in SA2, but A WHOLE GAME?! :/

Oh and no CG cutscenes, did they really over-do the budget that they couldn't spare it? They didn't even keep the CG trailer as the intro did they? They did for Colors.

So it looks like so far it's in the right direction, I hope we do indeed get a teaser of sorts on Monday (where is this from?!), a trailer ala Colors would work fine, get to hear the theme song and see some environments.

When you bring Yakker up, I wonder who's writing the script, then.

Ken Pontac actually mentioned on his site he's writing for a new Sonic game (I think he acknowledges Gens and Colors) so it has to be this.

http://www.sonicstadium.org/2013/01/report-ken-pontac-has-written-script-for-an-upcoming-sonic-game/

I personally don't find his and the other guys' scripts that funny, I think Black Knight had the best writing of any Sonic game this gen, Unleashed I kinda liked as well.

The story was barebones in both Colors and Gens, and the jokes were more misses than hits...

Edit: Okay Ken didn't acknowledge his previous Sonic games at all, but this was for an event recently he was a part of so...

The problem I have with this is that it isn't on PC, but even worse, it's on a platform I've already said that I'll never own in my life. So, it's basically... a game that I won't play.

Forget the mention of friends, I'm interested in the mention of new game play.

Of course while it all depends on how exactly they classify "new game play", I hope to god that it's not going back to the Unleashed style we've had these last three games. So sick of boosting and twitch-reaction game play, there's just about nothing that can evolve from it. I want some weighty levels with lots of exploring and a Sonic that doesn't control awful when running at full speeds.

Also I hope they cut out the 2.5D shit.

Wtf at the comments in that Yahoo! article.

Gaming is mindless, buy a canoe, climb a mountain, restore a classic car, take up golf & 1000 other things as long as you GET OUT OF THE HOUSE.!
Just what we need...another video game to keep the kids indoors all day

Apparently, buying a videogame means you must exclusively play videogames and only play videogames and not take an interest in any other aspect of life whatsoever.
You're also forbidden from leaving your own house.

Honestly I think it's time for some playable friends. Getting bored of Sonic himself; Tails and Knuckles need to do something other than stand around.

Well um, this is surprising.

Guess I'll just get the 3DS vesion...

It will most likely be completely different from the WiiU version though a la Sonic Colors, so keep that in mind.

What if it builds up a library of games you want to play?
