Sonic Lost World Wii U Exclusive

levels with lots of exploring

Hunting for red rings has left me with the feeling that Colors and Generations have far more exploration in them than any Sonic game since 1999.

I mean sure, if you play them once then you'll probably miss out on that but then that describes every sonic game.

This is great news. Keeping my fingers crossed the title is quality like the last few. I still can't wrap my mind around the irony of Nintendo publishing a proper sonic title.

You know I actually agree, but I was mostly referring to 3D levels, and it's done kind of cheap in both games since 75% of the time they're played on a 2D plane even though in Generations specifically, Modern Sonic should have more 3D aspects in it. Since it's in 2D a lot of the time, the level design often becomes a lot of straightforward platforming. I don't get the sense that there's a lot of that done in the 3D plane since those aspects are designed practically like hallways.

Sky Sanctuary Modern was one of the few exceptions. That was a surprisingly well designed level.

It will most likely be completely different from the WiiU version though a la Sonic Colors, so keep that in mind.

What if it builds up a library of games you want to play?

I don't buy consoles since PS1. And I don't care for most of Nintendo games. Maybe when it's on garbage bin price, like... in the end of it's life... if it's as cheap as Gamecube, I'll get one.

And, considering how fucked Wii U is right now, I don't think I ever will have a reason to get the console. Actually, Sonic is the only game interesting me on the platform right now.

There's 'good' and 'bad' practices to make your platform appealing. Paying a 3rd party to switch a MP game to exclusive falls under the latter for me.

As far as this Sonic game, it's stands to reason if would have been MP. The last Sonic games were, and i don' think Sega or any other 3rd party is clamoring to make Wii U exclusives considering its sales. Why is there a need for an agreement if the games were going to be exclusives anyhow?

Why does it matter?

I just don't see it as good or bad, just people bitter they don't get to play a game and people pleased to see a game on a platform they own.

I love that I see no shitty modern cities in the artwork. I hate Modern cities in sonic games. Im also pumped to see tales plane and just him and sonic on the art. Its trowback but in a good way, with some newness to it.

I'll be completely honest, I played the hell out of sonic adventure 2 battle on GameCube. It was fantastic and the chao garden addicting. From that moment on, I felt Sonic belonged on Nintendo consoles. I will get this game day one and hope that Nintendo can lock Sonic down forever.

Wow, you just echoed my feelings with every word right there. :O

Well I played Sonic Generations on PS3 and thought sonic belonged on it too.

Sonic could belong on Nintendo consoles and other ones as well. Imagine a sonic with killer pixar like graphics.

I got an Xbox 360 for Sonic Unleashed. Since then I had bought:

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection
Sonic and Sega All-Star Racing
Sonic and Sega All-Star Racing Transformed
Sonic 3
Sonic & Knuckles
Sonic 2
Sonic Generations
Sonic 4:EP 1
Sonic 4:EP 2

I missed a lot of Sonic Games, Like Secret Rings, Black Knight and Colors but since Sega decided to skip last year's Sonic game for Racing Transformed, I'm itching hardly for a new one.

Now I have to wait 2 years? Ouch :(

This is now my second most wanted WiiU game this year after Pikmin.

Loved loved loved Colors and Generations, if Lost World is better than those than this will be a fantastic game. Can't wait to see more.

If Sega wants more money, that won't happen. I hope it doesn't either.

So people are now freaking out over Sonic Lost World, but Secret Rings, Colours and The Black Knight weren't good enough to freak over about?
Secret Rings and Black Knight aren't really great games.

I don't think anyone expected Colors to be a great game before it actually came out, and because of that, Generations was hyped on the heels of Colors. Only makes sense to hype this on the heels of Generations, a game even better than Colors.

Haha, I remember I was so hyped for Sonic Colors, a lot more than Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Sonic Colors was announced a bit after, and people didn't seem to have much hope for it, but I seen it as something that looks very nice and seems to play nice. And it seemed like I was right about hyping for Sonic Colors and not the trash that was StH4.

Secret Rings was awesome but nobody really noticed and Black Knight was just terrible.
I don't want to live in a world where Secret Rings of all things is considered 'awesome'.

Colors and Generations were great though, I'm assuming that's why there's all the cautious excitement over Lost Worlds?

Secrete Rings IS awesome because it's essentially the template that allowed the 3D sections in Sonic Unleashed/Generations to be created.

it was pretty fun as soon as you got some abilities. not sure if I'd call it great, but it certainly was pretty good.

It actually isn't awesome because the controls are purposely gimped for an obtuse level-up system, the levels are linear on-rails bullshit which share only a superficial resemblance to what Colors/Generations would do and it came out around the same time as Sonic '06 which just about anything would look half-way good compared to THAT. It's not the worst thing ever made, but it's an incredibly mediocre product which got a pass for the time for doing a few things better than even worse games in the franchise were doing.

Felt completely suckered into buying it after not touching a console Sonic game since Heroes was such a huge letdown as a 12 year old. Still, that 'storybook' team went on to make Colors, so they can obviously craft a great Sonic game when given the proper freedom, time and resources.

You must not remember the reveal thread, especially when a sega rep declared it was aimed at kids. The hype for colors was a real slow burn
I swear SEGA did a total 180 on how they were marketing Colors and Sonic 4 at first. The latter was supposed to be the 'hardcore' titles for older fans while the former was an accessible title for younger players. When fan reception on the latter soured worse and worse over the year and Colors looked half-way decent, suddenly Colors was the game addressing every fan's criticisms of Unleashed and previous games while Sonic 4 was the basic entry-level game for younger players.

i had to ask the rep at e3 if the game was just sonic. and no other gameplay modes. just sonic and running with some extra powers sometimes.

because that idea sounded crazy in 2010.

Secret Rings always stuck me as what would happen if someone tried to make an entire game out of the Special Stages.
Having left field completion requirements (you can actually skip like 3/4s of the game almost if you just know which missions to pick) doesn't help its case as a good game either.
