SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 4 or AGAINST |OT| of Huelen in Green-Eyed Heaven

Is that even the same Sonic model from the HD versions? It looks really different. All around I'm pretty shocked at how much better the "lead" version of this game is though.:lol

it looks nowhere near that bad on the phone. iPhone 4 screenshots of things not at native res always look horrible.

It looks like an actual poly model instead of a sprite, which would be weird if true.

Finished the boulder level first try :p (but yeah, I was about to fall a few times). There are way too many "scripted" spring sequences.

Well that was SO annoying!

Had to go through so many menus, password entries and the likes just to get the game to download. Every time I buy something everything changes. 7 pages of terms and conditions?!

Sonics animation is still a little weird, the graphical style isn't really my thing and the speed is a little slow but wow, it actually looks playable now.

Huh, 3 levels of 4 already? I'll stop here methinks. Honestly, it's stupid fun and it's totally Sonic Advance 4, but I think I wouldn't recommend it for the higher price tag it has on consoles unless the two new acts are really that much of a difference. It's not bad, not great, just... there.

So basically, just another platformer.

Had a brief jam of it.

Runs like crap on the older Ipod touches, like everything else. Not unplayable but points out the faults with the app store.

I rate it.

well, it's a time-waster. don't get in expecting any depth or much replayability.

It's not. Unlike the console versions, the iOS version uses an actual 3D model.

Man, if I had an Iphone I seriously wouldn't bother with Sonic 4 on it. :lol

Despite it not conforming to the idea 'Sonic 4' criteria, it looks like a good game?

Maybe the new Sonic Cycle will be 'a good game that doesn't meet fan expectations because of some decision made by Sega that raises expectations to a ludicrous degree (like calling a new Sonic game 'Sonic The Hedgehog 4').

The game is not a true sonic 4, i have played half way through (the iPod version), and here is what I have noticed:

*95% of the game is this missile lock.
*All levels are remakes of sonic 2 (when is sonic 4 Episode 2: sonic 3 remake coming out.
*Game is over the top easy, have not died yet, have over 20 lives and 4 continues....
*Enemies from sonic 3 appear in Casino Street, but that’s it.
*Why is it that the cannon's you get shot from in sonic 3 appear and rotate according to your controls and not on their own....?
*Levels are way too short.
*Boss fights are not challenging, robotnic doesn't even attack half the time, just missile lock and it's an easy win :(
*Landing after spin dashing into the air/sonic uncurling is bad and leaves sonic vulnerable to landing on enemies.
*Animation does look weird a.k.a sonic has a 3d look in a 2d format e.g. 3d spirits.
*Stage select after completing first level!!!
*No story what so ever from last games e.g. no continuation from s&k.
*Bonus stage is uninspired copy of sonic 1 with no difficulty.
*List just keeps going.

Only positive is backgrounds look good, music is decent but that’s it, i just can't believe in the sonic team anymore, i have been a strong follower like a lot of you waiting for the next sequel but i just can't see the series getting back to what it originally was. This all needs to be fixed if they even think of an episode 2.

This is Dimps, not sonic team, and it plays like shite on an iPad. It's a press left to win style :/

if this was released by some indie team chances are people would be calling it a pretty neat iPhone game. the levels seemed designed around the hard to use d-pad, it's usually press right to win.

I was kinda hoping the iPhone version of this would be my next casual pick up and play time waster after Monkey Ball 2 and Robot Unicorn Attack, but apparently not. I'll probably pick up the PS3 version anyway though. I'm part of the problem~

Someone post when they beat the game.

Bought it. Beat it after 30 seconds of playtime.

Lost for words right now.

Sega stuck a fork in Sonic.

Why would Sega want to release the significantly inferior version of the game first? I just don't get it.

Doesn't matter what they release first the game is largely the same across all platforms. Look at that list of complaints...being the iPhone isn't the issue.

Not really..
The iPhone version is the same as the beta build we saw earlier this year. No changes were made to it.

I played through the first two zones in roughly twenty minutes. maybe a bit more, I wasn't keeping track of the time.

So, just been digging through the iOS version's music files & compared them to the PartnerNet versions. They are the same (sans compression obviously) :lol I thought Ruby mentioned some "all-new" music? Unless the iOS version is getting the shaft entirely, I'm pretty sure we've been had (yet again). I'll reserve my final judgement until I get my hands on the XBLA version.

Just played it on the iPad. For one, it's near impossible to play on an iPad. Not mine, mind you :p

Sonic and enemies are in 3D, but this is for alll versions. XBLA / PSN are just really poly heavy. If it were a sprite, it'd be incredibly expensive to have in, say, the WiiWare version. He's always in 3D, but has smoothing effects around him on other versions.

The iPhone version has some fucked up thing it tries to do when you go around a loop, where it follows you around. It's horribly disorientating.

Game seems to be meh all around, chose a bunch of random levels (since they're all unlocked once you complete the first stage) and they're just messy. Foreground / background gets confusing, especially in the Metropolis level, and I feel there are a lot of poorly placed level elements (such as getting stuck in the Casino level by going under a pinball lever, or stuck in the bouncy triangles) which the only way out is to randomly boost your way out of it. Casino especially seems kind of ganked, since Sonic draws above the pinball lever and doesn't look like he's actually on it correctly.

Ugh.

Pretty much my sentiments as well. I honestly didn't think Sega could fuck up it's "lead platform" so fucking horribly :lol

I know man it's like people don't suffer from the same specific set of mental dysfunctions you do or something.

Anyway, now that Sonic is confirmed dead forever and ever, there's a list of posters I expect we will never see in threads for new Sonic games ever again. Should be an interesting experiment, even though I already know the results.

The lead platform is the obviously gimped version of the game.

Sega found a way.

the amount of hate this game will get is entirely disproportional to the reality of what this game is, and it's all thanks to a really shitty marketing move.

Users on the apple store are 5 staring the game. I am assuming that this is the 3D fan boys who have no clue what a sonic game should be like thinking that this is a awesome sequel. These would be the same people who though sonic and the secret rings/knight was a fantastic true to form sonic.... Do i even dare mention they might even think Sonic 2006 is a 5 star game. Jeez i wish these people would stop supporting this sonic cycle >:| Bring back original sonic with original sprites with original gameplay/plot with apporpiate original sonic 3/s&k story telling. Seriously, just do what Capcom did and do a megaman and take the series back to its origins.

I have no patience for games that take little to no advantage of its respective genre's strengths and simply takes a paint-by-numbers approach to design. Especially coming from a series that (at the start anyway) had quite the pedigree.

I think we should wait till the console versions release. I dont have an Ipod touch/Ipad...but I cant see how someone would be able to comfortably play any platforming game on one. At least one designed for consoles as well.

No. Iizuka said that they delayed the game because the tilt functions didn't work as well on console versions as they did on iPhone. This was the result from a focus group test not liking same stages or the tilting as mentioned on TSSZ.

The iPhone was NOT the lead platform. If anything, the 360 was, as that's the version they kept showing off in the gaming shows.

BTW, bad move on Sega to release the worst (early beta) one first.

Err, you play one level and the whole game unlocks? WTF. iPhone version plays ok on the ipad, but its a seriously easy game. It doesn't have as many pitfalls as Sonic Rush, but I just wish they through some difficulty in it. Oh well, I'll have to see what the 360 one is doing.

Control is like Geo Wars on the iPad, but worse: one buttan and one stick. It looks fugly with the zoom, and with a 3 month lead, why no ipad or iphone 4 support? This is extremely sloppy and I might ask for a refund. If it were priced at $5 it would be fine. $10 is iPad game territory.
