still better than fanart.

and not the good fanart, the questionable stuff

I've never understood why Sonic of all franchises has a huge furry following, what is it about double pupil cyclops animals that look nothing like what they are that gets people's pants so wet?

The majority here don't really care about that nonsense, and the conversation is usually dropped within a few posts.

Big Band Version of Casino Night Zone - that bassssss and those alto saxes. I admit that I like Big Band music, too. I was obsessed with the stuff in high school. Actually, I got into a lot of stuff in high school because I was in a bunch of clubs and stuff. Music theatre, band, choir, drama, all that stuff.

Shoot, my choir/vocal music teacher was a huge jazz buff, so I guess that explains why I like stuff like this jazz remix of Proto Man's whistle theme + Flash Man's theme. I'm not totally into this genre of jazz, but I like it alright. I like it better when it's live like this because you can hear the bass so much better. And that electric piano. omg... makes me melt. <3

Well, I'm going to try to keep my mouth shut on the whole thing, but I didn't see anything that would entice me to buy one of those at all.

Badly-paced conference, too. Xbox One.

A lot of that stuff seemed very geared towards Americans, though. Lots of the cable content and stuff. Considering we don't have a good spread of Canadian cable providers here, I imagine that one company up here is going to try to monopolize on the whole thing. But with that said, I really don't care for the extras because I just want a platform to play games with and nothing more. I'm not looking for a console to be an entertainment hub. It's just my games machine and call me stuck in the past, but I don't feel like it's necessary to be more than that.

Additionally, the used games bs and the online fees is really darn ridiculous to me. I don't like that sort of stuff at all. Lack of BC is also another thing, and I guess that has me looking at the $99 Xbox at the moment because I just wanted to play four games that I own for the console. It's a real shame, to be honest. Outside of the new D-Pad, I don't really care much for the console at all.

With that said, I was enjoying Bean ripping the conference apart. Haha. Man, I don't take these conferences seriously, like ever. I try to have fun with them.

Hi sonicgaf im pretty dronk fromtbe mocrosoft conference drinking game. How bout you?
This is why I had elected to drink water. D:

It was on-point!

Wasn't America their biggest buyers? If so, I don't see any issue in catering to the market that netted them the most dough.
Perhaps, but I'm kind of reminded of how the Saturn was geared so heavily to one market at the expense of the others. Granted, that market (Japan) was different from the one that made its predecessor so successful (US/Europe), unlike in this case, but nevertheless...

Well, it's just weird considering my country's on the same continent as yours. ESPN isn't supported in Canada, our biggest TV provider in Canada is not supported on the 360, and NFL ain't something we're very interested in, either. Shit, we can barely use Netflix because Canadian Netflix is also governed by CRTC laws.

I know Coldman doesn't care very much about the stuff they showed either. Odd, because if MS actually put forth the effort, they could capitalize in Europe.

The general point I'm trying to make is that there's a difference between catering to your strongest market and then making many of the "prime features" of your console that you show off during your unveiling generally worthless in international markets. We all knew this was going to be an entertainment and social hub, but to just advertise American-centric stuff during a worldwide console unveiling just doesn't sit well with me. This kind of thing is something I totally understand during E3 because that's an American-centric presentation, but for a worldwide unveiling? Nah, doesn't make much sense to me.

Though, full-disclosure: I don't watch TV outside of hockey, soccer, and the news.

For what it's worth, I think MS will run away with the UK market once again, purely because they'll have CoD and FIFA on their side. They'll cut deals with Sky TV, our own ESPN and Netflix, plus they'll get BBC iPlayer because the iPlayer team make a point of putting that service everywhere they can. There's a lot more crossover between the ways that the UK and the US are consuming multimedia, I believe.

But no, it certainly didn't grip me in any way.

i fucking hate the weather and how hot everything is

i have like the biggest headache now :(

oh and uh, xbox one

neat features and the controller looks slick, but man the anti used games is kind of a deal breaker... any word on it being always online only?

When catering to your biggest markets includes trying your best to hitch your wagon to the INSANELY profitable NFL machine, you do it.

Here's how you "hitch your wagon to the NFL machine"- you make sure Madden keeps getting released every year.

That's all people care about. No-one gives a flying fuck about whatever fantasy bullshit MS wheeled out.

qq more, you really need to keep hydrated. You're consistently getting heat stroke like I used to because you don't have a fan around or you're hanging around your room too much. And you're not drinking a lot of water, either. I'd suggest taking some time in the living room where there is an AC and taking your Wii U tablet with you if you need to browse the internet.

I just wonder how they're going to go ahead with things now that they're just trying to make it a huge entertainment hub and generally seeming to ignore its original premise of being a games console. I don't really understand who this conference was geared towards. You're showing it on Spike, meaning you're probably going to show it to people who play video games on a casual basis or incredibly often. You could argue that they're saving some of that for E3, but why even bother with that considering the time the conference was on, then? Most of the people who would be into these TV features are at work or out of the house.

But again, it's just odd that they're going for a console unveiling and making it rather USA-centric rather than leaving that for E3 instead where the conferences are generally USA-centric.

I'm wondering why they didn't talk about the "Start/Select" buttons on the controller, though. Why show them and leave that stuff unexplained?

Edit: Ah, my local news is going to talk about this, so I'm just going to listen to the tone of the report.

Pretty much.

But what if you want to bring a game disc to a friend's house and play there? You'll have to pay a fee—and not just some sort of activation fee, but the actual price of that game—in order to use a game's code on a friend's account. Think of it like a new game, Harrison says.
I think I'm done.

Here's how the system works: when you buy an Xbox One game, you'll get a unique code that you enter when you install that game. You'll have to connect to the Internet in order to authorize that code, and the code can only be used once. Once you use it, that game will then be linked to your Xbox Live account. "It sits on your harddrive and you have permission to play that game as long as you’d like," Harrison said.

Permission? How nice of them

I'm an American and I sure as hell don't care for half 90% of the shit they showed. I'm not into that "nuclear family" living room entertainment shit; I'm a 19-year-old that wants to play some goddamn games.

The more next gen creeps up and details about it come out, the less sillier I feel about a good portion of my gaming money in the past year or so going towards older consoles.

You know, the ones that didn't need cable box functionality, or social media features. The ones that y'know... actually played games.

I imagine Bean's twirling around on his chair laughing it up over the used games bs. He's pretty dang brutal when he wants to be.

Ah, my local news report.

"Xbox unveiled its new system, the Xbox One!"
-Wii U has fallen short of sales expectations, assorted Wii U dislike here in terms of the tone of the report
-We don't know if this all-in-one integrated strategy's going to work, but it's neat to try! They want to be in control of almost every facet of the living room, not just the games site of things.
-it's about integrating all in one hub; this is the next big battle in gaming and the PS4 and Xbox One will be the most significant platforms this gen.
-if people want the games, they're willing to buy the console -- there's not a magic price point that will make people want to buy it; they'll buy it if they want it no matter the price.
-"Will Xbox One crash in spectacular fashion, or will it be Number One?"

Aaaaaagh! Thunderstorm! That was loud and I jumped.

I already drank like 2 bottles of really cold water (which makes 4 cups). I'll probably have to drink more then. My dad is going to get me a new AC soon since my current one is busted.

And thank you for the concern, I really appreciate it.

I'm the opposite of you guys, actually. Every console plays games, I want to see how the people behind it enhance that experience without making me pay more for crap or limiting my options as a consumer. I can appreciate what older consoles did, but I genuinely want to see our tech move forward.

I felt good watching the PS4 reveal. That was a sign of a company that "got it" and genuinely had things on their console that would move the industry forward. Xbox One is the total opposite of that.

Meanwhile I only see one reference to anything of that sort on MSN.com right now. (edit: and 'Microsoft Xbox reveal' low on the list of pouplar searches)

'NFL, Microsoft agree to deal'

Ummm I have to disagree. Yes Madden brings in the money but if they are able to do something like NFL Sunday Ticket where you have access to any blood game you want, it runs good AND fantasy football? Kaching.

Fantasy Football brings in so much money it's insane. I hate it but still. It's a multi billion dollar industry.

I thought the Wii U and Vita were as poorly received as consoles would get, but Microsoft was hellbent on doing one better.

See, our news didn't even talk about the NFL thing at all! It goes to show how much Canadian news cares. The only time Canada cares about the American version of football is during CFL, and even then... But yeah, not a lot of the stuff with respect to being a cable box was mentioned because that stuff is more US-centric. We'd have to wait and see up here.

If they strike up a deal with Bell Media and get TSN / TSN2 / SportsNet, Comedy Network, and the NHL Channel, then maybe? I don't necessarily see that happening because it seems like Rogers would go for them instead... but these media giants would prefer monopolizing on their own. They'd rather people use their own VOD services as opposed to getting stuff through a third party. Stuff like Netflix and the Canadian PSN video store are kind of garbage as a result.

I already drank like 2 bottles of really cold water (which makes 4 cups). I'll probably have to drink more then. My dad is going to get me a new AC soon since my current one is busted.

Yeah, I'm not mad at you, qq. *ruffles your hair* I was irritated, but not mad.

Just learn that I never take these things seriously, alright? I snark off all the time during them. At least I had a small outlet and snarked off with Bean for a bit.

I think that used games stuff was debunked by the Xbox Support Twitter. Also is anyone having their 'users who quoted you' gone from the User CP?
