They would, which is why a remake would never be kosher in this day and age. It's one of those topics that I honestly can't stand being brought up in threads simply because people don't take that into account. They got away with a lot in 1997/1998, some of which you can't get away with now.

It's not going to fucking happen now. And if it did, it'd take SE 10 years to make.

Mukki in the bath tub, among other things...
To be fair, there's Disc 2 of the original...

Well I can excuse that little episode because his usual attitude is much more upbeat and he has a pretty good reason to be confused lol.

I'd think that some of the lines I'd like might get cut for the sake of voice acting. Or the voice acting is going to make the reading of those lines pretty bad.

Hence why I would never want a remake for any system at all. Leave the game alone as-is.

Edit: Oh god, I can barely talk. Tried speaking and my throat... I need to get some salt water in me pronto.

Friend sent me a link to this Unikgamer.com, which was a bad idea for productivity. As an accountant, I can't help but put things in order, and all these gamers collectively ranking their favorites by year, genre, systems, I can't help myself...fuck I'm such a nerd.

I settled on an All-Time top 10, which seems just about right. 11-through-whatever changes with the wind.

I couldn't imagine arranging a big list like that in any kind of order. I keep one on GiantBomb, but I named it "The Games I Replay" and just added whatever in whatever order I remembered.

I know, it's like choosing which of your kids you love the most, and there's like 100+ of em. Honestly, only my top 3 is set in stone. Everything else is up for debate in my head.

edit: Hi-five for Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, that game was so godlike.

Hm. I think I woke up with a sore throat and a fever. Haha. I'll see how I feel after I take some medicine or something.

It's probably because I kept my fan on or something. I know exactly why this happened now, and qq more might, too.
That sucks. I thought I had it bad when I had a really awful stomachache sleeping overnight. I feel fine now, though, which automatically means you're feeling worse than I am. :\

One of these days, I need to finish RE4 Wii Edition. No idea why I stopped, it was pretty good. I know I had only just reached the escort mission that apparently spans the vast majority of the game, but that wasn't why I dropped it, I don't believe.

Why did you strip out the spoiler tag? Some people in here haven't played FFVII all the way through, I don't think; I was spoiler tagging it for their sake, since Schala's been streaming it lately.

I'm not very original when it comes to this shit, I know, I know

Top 10 of all time lists are sorta tricky business for me on account of series with many great entries, for diversity reasons I think of it as there can only be one entry for each series. I guess a good portion of the list would have a series runner up candidate alongside the fabled entry of top 10 quality to truly satisfy my indecision.

Top tens make me tap into my inner indecisiveness.
I always end up thinking "well...maybe this should move up a notch", etc.

1. Metroid Prime
2. Super Smash Bros. Melee
3. Team Fortress 2
4. Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne
5. Super Mario Galaxy
6. Mirror's Edge
7. Fire Emblem 7
8. Dissidia 012: Duodecim
9. Sonic 2
10. Advance Wars: Dual Strike

Honorables:
1. Shin Megami Tensei IV
2. Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions
3. F-Zero GX
4. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
5. Sonic Adventure
6. Gundam EX Versus

I do this as well, unless the entries are REALLY close and I got like a top 50 so I got room to spare. Metal Slug X/3 both occupy the same spot in my heart <3

Or if the games are so similar I feel like I just need one of them for representation. The Last of Us replaced UC2 on my top 25 list, and although it's pretty early, it's best game I've played with Rayman Origins in 2011, so why wait.

Yes, I think about these kind of lists a lot. Yes, I'm already planning out my GotY list in my head, why do you ask

The similar representation point has slayed the original Super Mario Galaxy to be permanently replaced in my favourite listings by its superior successor, I can't help but feel bad for the original now, it was a fun 2 and a half years it had near the top.

And I also keep the top 10 of the year in mind even in the early stages, after a certain amount of releases it gets to the level that I can start gauging on how much I enjoyed a game by the value of "would it get in my top 10 for this year*?" and even at this point i'm factoring in the potential shoe ins that are yet to release, video game lists are the most serious of business.

* 2012 is not a good measurement of this rule.

Metal Gear Rising is still my GOTY, so...

I need to sort out that shit, but I'm still playing GTA, which should definitely be represented, and then I need to decide exactly how much I liked BioShock Infinite. Oh, and there's still Pokemon, Gone Home and Link Between Worlds to play, and Fire Emblem to finish. It's a tough year, but it should be easier to fill up that list of ten. Hmmm.

Also, don't forget people: Ridiculous Fishing. 2013. Deserves at least an honorary mention.

I'm starting to consider it close to equal nowadays. The game's soundtracks and visual direction just slays SMG2 in spots. The sequel swaps out the majesty of SMG1's Battlerocks and Space Junks in favour of more straight-forward blue sky romps. The level design and amount of content undeniably makes SMG2 the superior game on the surface level, but I dunno man.

SMG1 is a game about Mario travelling to fucking space. SMG2... isn't, for better or worse.

My bad, didn't notice. Apologies if anyone did see that, I hate spoilers myself so I feel pretty bad now.

I still play both quite a lot as the old comfort food games, in fact I was playing SMG1 last weekend.
They are pretty damn close, I find that SMG2's more straight platforming prominent stages, better new suits and fun implementation of Yoshi put it over for me in a way that makes it quite noticeable even with the strengths of the original.
In a way 2 feels more to the point while the first still has traces of the 64/Sunshine style remaining in a weaker form (Sea Slide galaxy leaps to mind). And I might actually prefer the soundtrack of the second as well, it may lack the big hitters but its more well rounded to me, you know what's jarring? going from SMG2 to the first and hearing the firsts tinny rendition of the star get jingle.

In any case both are stellar.

I worry about Bayonetta 2, because if it's clearly better/improved in a bunch of ways like SMG1-->2, I'll have to replace it on my list, so disrespectful. I still love a lot of what SMG1 does, including the soundtrack, but SMG2 has my favorite song in the sub-series so...I feel like SMG2 got rid of some of that fluff that was hanging on it from the 64/Sunshine, like the hub world and how long it takes just to get to the next stage, it's like SMG distilled or some shit. Best Mario.

And yes, I think about those shoe ins as well. I can't see a world where Tropical Freeze doesn't end up in the top 5, for instance. Same great engine/level design/challenge from the first game, with DAVID WISE MUSIC, fast pace underwater levels, and normal controls. Retro would have to really shit the bed in some spectacular fashion to screw that up.

This is how my 2013 list looks in my head at the moment

1. The Last of Us
2. The Wonderful 101
3. Bioshock Infinite
4. Metal Gear Rising
5. Mario and Luigi: Dream Team
6. Guacmelee
7. Rayman Legends

If these first few hours of GTAV or any indication, it could compete for the #1 slot. Then there's the aforementioned DKC, LttP2 the first top-down traditional Zelda from Nintendo EAD in 20 years, that new 3D Mario, that new Batman that builds on two of my favorite games from this generation...

...isn't there a Sonic game coming out this year or something? That could be good.

1. Sonic 3 & Knuckles

3. Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire
4. The Last of Us
5. Super Mario Galaxy
6. The World Ends With You
7. Halo 3
8. FF7
9. Rome Total War
10. Crash Team Racing

These are my favourites, but there are at least 5 more I wish I could put in there. Also, after the top 3 the order is interchangable.

Yep. It's much easier to just list the games.
With descriptions noting why you picked it, of course. Otherwise it'd just be a boring list. :p

Haha, I think I'm feeling warmer than everyone else since they're all dressed in long sleeves/a jacket and I'm in a short-sleeved top. Though I noticed it was 68 here, soooo... that's not cold.

I kind of feel like if I gave reasons I'd want to go into loads of detail, and with 10 games I'd be here all night. I don't like leaving a job half-done you see. Still might do for a couple of them later, but I won't have the time for a couple of hours.

Sonic typically sells well on Nintendo systems. You can see that evidenced with ASRT sales given that it sold the best on that platform.

3DS version could sell a lot even if people aren't invested in the Wii U version just by virtue of being Sonic.

Edit: Also, it seems like Sega pissed in people's soup or something going by how people are talking about 'em.

Haha, sounds like me. I don't divulge this to a lot of people, but for my longer posts, I take maybe 2-4/5 hours on them sometimes including editing because I want to be thorough.

Though there are other times where I just spend 15-30 minutes one something lengthy but minor.

Instead of the countless times that a company does really great stuff that could hurt them to give a product a chance, people just choose to remember the one or two times things don't go perfectly. Just the way it is sadly.

I can empathise with the time comments haha. So many times where I just erase everything and start again.

It's all about that Starship Mario, Fluffy Bluff and Melty Monster but I can respect Puzzle Plank.

I still need to go back to Bayonetta before the sequel comes out and get a greater understanding for how I should be playing it, can't help but feel like I was missing out on what makes it go from damn good to freaking great with my action game inexperience at the time (and PS3 jank).

This is funny considering some of the posts above by Schala and Razzer but regarding the games i've played this year and the upcoming ones I just went and typed out a bunch of stuff over like 45 minutes that i've decided to delete because of its sheer volume, this volume came from a small detailing of my thoughts on each game I mentioned which still manages to add up. I just don't like to list without reasons, it's that damn Stump I tell ya, he did this to me!

I'll put that aside for now and just point out that so far taking into account the games i've played the fave five is currently...

Pikmin 3
The Wonderful 101
Rayman Legends
Fire Emblem Awakening
Metal Gear Rising

Other games like The Last of Us are bubbling under but I suspect the upcoming releases will knock these ones off the overall list, assuming that something doesn't go horribly wrong Tropical Freeze might very well have this wrapped up for me.

I actually feel bad about it, to be honest with you. That was his first thread and I feel really bad about saying what I said.

I didn't mean to be mean, but it was something that really needed to be said in a general sense. I'm sick and tired of list threads on GAF with no explanations and no discussions whatsoever. I know it probably comes with the site expanding, but even then, the level of discussion shouldn't suffer as much.

For some weird reason I impulse-bought ASRT on Steam without anyone to actually gift it to... So uh, first to quote gets a free copy I guess. Taken.

I'll celebrate the fact Atlus stays alive more than wondering who else could've gotten them for now.

People are saying Capcom and Square Enix would be better choices than Sega in that Atlus thread.

LOL

They have no idea what they're talking about if they're comparing Capcom to SEGA, especially modern SEGA since Phantasy Star Online 2, Generations PC, and Sonic Adventure 2 PC along with Jet Set Radio and the other Dreamcast games.

Thing is, SEGA more than other companies loves to experiment with titles, even the small stuff like this game.

It's honestly the best choice Atlus could have gotten.

Agreed. Capcom would just butcher Atlus's games or kill them all together. They can't even save their own franchises. Square Enix had became a joke in recent years and Konami should never be trusted anymore after what they have done to Hudson.

Outside of PSO2, SEGA's lack of localizations has been justified because Yakuza bombed extremely hard in the west. From what I've heard, Persona 4 Golden on the Vita outsells some of the Yakuza titles combined. I think no one should be worried about Atlus' future in the west, especially that they're still profitable to them.

To be fair, if they were acquired by the likes of Konami, we would only be "celebrating" for how little time left they have to be alive.

RIP Hudson. Never forget.

What are the other 9 scoldings?

I think no one should be worried about Atlus' future in the west, especially that they're still profitable to them.
Should still be worried about Atlus USA, though. They do good work and I'd hate to see them dismantled because they aren't left alone.

What would be a decent idea is if they had Atlus US localize some of their games for them (ie: so Atlus didn't do stuff like Game of Thrones, etc. again) and still brand everything as "Sega", I guess. Have Atlus turn a small profit, and their games would be put out for the west for some people to play.

Generally what I try to do with the music threads is just post with some explanations even if it's just a single sentence and hope other people might think "cor blimey that post was a lot more fun to gander at knowing the reasons behind the posters choices, i'm bloody well inspired to do the same!" except they probably don't speak like that.
Music is a trickier subject for a lot of people including myself, if you don't have much knowledge of music as a whole then you're basically going by how you feel which is kind of tricky to articulate, sometimes i'll think like"oh I like that instrument" but haven't the foggiest clue what name the instrument has leading to wishy washy statements like "the flute thing is good stuff". Of course I agree with the Schala Scolding as Beef put it (Will I need to Trademark this one in the future?) but do consider throwing your hat into the game in some of the more well put together music threads, you don't need to give it the full works, it'd be nice just to see a few more explanations in these parts.
otherwise i'm left until the SotY to hear most of the interesting thoughts on this topic, boooo!

Before things full to list based ruin we must set the example and then others will be so moved by our posts that we will restore order, BELIEVE

Of course my personal button is those LTTP threads of FUCKING NOTHING!
I mean there's not even anything for anyone to discuss with such exciting openings as...

LTTP: GTA5
So i'm currently taking the game out of the shrinkwrap while on the train back to my house, hope it's good.

I guess we could talk about the case right? even music lists have links that are more valuable then these wretched parties of nothing, just an empty plate of crumbs where the cake should've been.

That would go on my Top 10 Schala Scoldings.

With no explanation why, naturally. =D
I'll take this one without the explanations, spill the beans Beefers.

Yeah, I have this problem. I've forgotten basically anything I knew about music and its terminology, so I'd just look like an idiot trying to articulate why I like a certain song by creating some sort of puzzle-like statement others have to decipher.

I feel like I've posted my personal Top 10 (Several times, even!) multiple times in the thread, but eh, whatever. Some games usually rotate in and out, anyway.

1. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
2. Super Metroid
3. Chrono Trigger
4. Final Fantasy VII
5. Resident Evil 4
6. Sonic 3 & Knuckles
7. Metroid Prime
8. Mother 3
9. Mega Man X
10. Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master

Yeah, this is pretty much my issue, too. Aside from one particular post in the CV community thread, I almost never participate in music discussion because I don't have any idea how to articulate what I like about a certain track.
