I honestly think it has more to do with the combination of the poor quality Sonic games has been for nearly a decade + people (usually the generalizing ones) constantly post creepy sonic fanart/fanfic for laughs. It has gotten to the point they are blind by that and actually believes every Sonic fans are creepy weirdos.

Derp. I edited that into the OP finally. Thanks. :D
No probalo!

I'm assuming it's about the generalization posts. Pokemon and Sonic fans get that shit a lot. It's very annoying.
Also Nintendo fans, Trekkies, furries, bronies, video gamers, nerds in general, et cetera. It's very, very common for pretty much any group of people I can think of. I just try to keep myself above that, honestly; very rarely are the people as bad as they're made out to be.

(That said, I suppose I'm a little guilty of it when it comes to politics...)

At times I wonder if there's a Mario bias that blinds some people into just mindlessly insulting or trash talking any other Platformer series.
I do hope I'm wrong about this, but it's something I've been suspecting/wondering for the longest time.
I think it's more that for some people, the series never improved after 2K6's lows, so how could grown adults actually be enjoying Colors or Generations?

I am so bummed out right now.

My job let me go at the end of my shift.

I guess tomorrow I'll see about filing unemployment.
Oh shit, I'm so sorry. I know you seemed to really like it too. :(

Hit the nail on the head. Though even then, like Shadow Hog said, it's not just limited to Pokemon and Sonic games. Other mascot platformers get the same thing associated with it (like Dust or Freedom Planet), even if it's a false generalization.

No one recognizes the posting style or genre choices of oldbies anymore unless they post in a lot of threads, it seems. Heck, in a few RPG threads, I've gotten asked if I play the genre often enough to be able to bring up certain aspects of a game or general game design lately.

i look at it as new opportunities to interact with people. no one remembers the ninja gaiden c- review anymore, but i do. i do.

Man I remember the Freedom Planet thread I made, so many negative posts in there...
Speaking of which, what's the latest update on it? (Can't access their site from work @_@) Are they expecting the game to be ready by early 2014 or such?

Honestly, I knew the possibility existed since the end of August. The company was running out of work to do. I actually started preparing my portfolio last week, but I was really hoping to last until the beginning of January before I had to start looking again.

Oh well. :(

ah shit man. where you located?

I live up in northern Georgia, toward Dawsonville.

Oh... Jeez. I'm sorry to hear that. :(

I have no idea what I'd do if I hit unemployment... I haven't updated my resume in ages.

Have a one hour long preview by a "GIGAB00TS", if you want. Covers stages not available in the public demo, including a stage for Milla, that barefoot green-blob-throwing dog girl that's also not in the demo.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, you guys. :)

I've been doing graphic design work for going on three years professionally, but I did a lot of stuff back when I was in high school, too. This is the second web design company I've worked for where I left due to the company just not being able to make it, so I have decided that I'm going to try and find a place that focuses less on web and more on print. That sounds like it is more up my alley, anyway.

Hope you find more work soon, Lightning Lord!

So, um, has anyone ever gotten so obsessed with a game that all you ever think about is that game? It isn't affecting my life which is good as I can ignore it when socialising, but literally every moment where I don't have something keeping my attention I'm thinking about this. I never knew I was capable of loving a game so much.

I am so gonna nag Shahid (Dude that gets Indies on PS Vita) to put Freedom Planet on the Vita.
From the vid posted above, it's a great 'take a break' game and fits with how the Vita is great for playing a game, pausing it then coming back to it later and continue.
The graphics are great, music is beautiful and man is Milla soooooooooo cute X3

Each stage's length reminds me of the Spyro games, where completing each portal would take around 10-ish minutes to complete if you're aiming to get as many collectables as possible in an initial playthrough of it.

oh we're probably in the same boat then. i do print stuff too, and graduated with my degree about three years ago. didn't get a full time gig until about two years ago, but i kinda floated around here and there before that. maybe it's a longshot, but you could check and see if the red cross is hiring any designers.

Sometimes. I get pretty obsessive about whatever piece of entertainment I'm into at any given moment in general, so any game that's long enough tends to start bouncing around in my subconscious, especially if I've had the free time to play it heavily a few days in a row. Eventually boredom or burnout sets in and I move on.

I've been like this for 3-4 months :/

After playing Diablo III, I got a massive urge to go back and play Diablo 1 and 2. Unfortunately, college has gotten in the way. BUT OVER THANKSGIVING BREAK, I WILL FIGHT THE SPAWN OF HELL ONCE MORE (and try out the awesome looking "The Hell" mod for Diablo 1). Sorry Diablo III, ya just didn't cut it with me. Maybe not an "obsession" on the level you speak, but definitely a longing.

Song: Bingo Highway ~ Remix Ver.
Game: Sonic Heroes
Composer: Keiichi Sugiyama

Lots of arrangements this week. That wasn't intentional going into it, but as long as we're hitting them anyway, let's have one more straight off the Heroes OST.

The original Bingo Highway is what I would favorably call a repetitive techno mess. Like most Heroes tracks, it's desperately in need of a melody. The remix gives it one in the form of a vocoder straight out of the 70's, which is awesome. That, combined with just plain better writing when it comes to the crazy digital breakdowns, completely transforms it from one of Heroes' many ugly auditory caterpillars into the sort of beautiful musical butterfly that the game narrowly missed the mark on so many times, despite being the exact same bug underneath.

Sometimes a song just needs a little TLC (and a tortured metaphor or two).

Well, the issue is that it's made in one of those WYSIWYG game makers, Multimedia Fusion 2. Clickteam had been working on a Vita exporter for the thing, but announced recently that they've abandoned it. Shahid might do better to convince them to finish it, I dunno.

That said, I think Strife wanted to finish the game in MMF2, make some money back on it, and put that money toward porting it to a proper programming language for portability's sake (not too much unlike what VVVVVV did, although that started with Flash instead of some game maker). A Vita port probably wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility at that point, but I dunno.

I want Wii U and PS4 ports, personally.

While I agree that the original was a complete mess of a song that didn't know where it was going, I'm going to disagree that this remix fixes it, and instead posit that it's still a complete mess, just one with unintelligible lyrics on top of it. The lyrics do help make it similar to a track from one of the early Wipeout games or such (e.g.), but as soon as they're gone, it's back to chaos.

Reposting from the Sonic Lost World OT:

I've been watching some videos for this game. It really looks like Sonic Galaxy sometimes, specially in this new video (I think it's new).

WARNING! It is Footage from Tropical Coast
(with the moustached blue boss)
, and there is a pretty big story spoiler near the end,
Eggman and Sonic have to team up against the Deadly six because they stole one of Eggman's machines (a very dangerous one apparently that can end the world).

It's kind of obvious, but don't click the spoiler tags unless you really want to know the spoilers.

btw, the player is awful at the game and knows it.

I'm sorry if this bothers anyone, if it does, just tell me and I'll remove it (I don't know how this thread works or if I can post this here).

Nope, you're totally welcome to post it in here or the Lost World OT, as long as you include a spoiler warning, which you did.

I would probably preface "this new video" with "(Tropical Coast (Zone #) spoilers)".

Thanks for the link, btw. You're absolutely right; it does... seem reminiscent of Galaxy corner/planet level design.

What's the overall impression on the 3DS Sonic World? I've convinced my brother to get it so I hope it'll be good >_<

Hey I can wait for Summer 2014 if that's what'll take for FP to be on Vita ;3
...but man I do hope the devs are planning on splitting the stages, I mean 10 minutes to beat one is...OK, but if they plan on splitting them into say 2-3 acts, it'd be more comfortable that way.
Also I find it funny how each character is an expy of the Sonic 3 cast haha.

EDIT: ...and I wonder when it is people are gonna realize I'm the guy who usually makes the threads on stuff on sale on US and EU PSN lol.

Ugh, I don't like this at all. From 0:50 until 1:40 or so it's just random assorted sounds with no structure at all, and sounds horrible in my ears. The main sections are better, but still bad imo. It took what made the original annoying and put even more emphasis on them. Seriously, that fucking whistle. I actually don't mind the original all that much, but this is blegh.

I didn't have much nice to say about that Sonic Heroes theme so I didn't bother to type up something about how I didn't like any of the synth or samples at all. >.>

It's only when it goes into that whole breakdown bit between 50s and 1m40s that it sounds moderately decent with some semblance of a melody since that's pretty neat. Everything else is just... why.

Heroes soundtrack has Ocean Palace and umm...Seaside Hill? I guess I don't mind Frog Forest and Grand Metropolis much either.
But Ocean Palace is the only one I really rate.

Cut the fat (levels are too long), get rid of HP for enemies (seriously), fix the controls and you have a pretty good game with still some flaws.

Everything would still look like plastic, the ending where they want to break Robotnik's legs while a piano diddly plays would still be intact, and the camera would still make me want to hurl.

Hence the "still some flaws"

(and ugh I really do hate how Heroes looked. I never liked the plasticness of it...)

Never was a fan of Sonic Heroes. Sloppy controls, unappealing "plastic" look, Tail's voice acting (voice acting wasn't good in general... but Tail's still sticks out in my mind), enemies rockin' health bars, having to crowd control, bad camera... yeah, Heroes had a lot of problems.

guess i'm alone in liking that song lol
My connection is crap right now so I can't check youtube or anything but Bingo Highway is the second of the casino type stages, right? I actually did kind of like that song. It was definitely missing something though. And I don't recall it really building up to anything so it ended up sounding repetitive. But I do like it a little for some reason.

As for Heroes itself, yes, my biggest complaint was that there is way too much repetition with the four teams and some of the levels are too long. Otherwise it's an okay platformer. I found it much more palateable in short bursts than even Adventure 1 and 2, and I played those games when I was a kid.

the ending where they want to break Robotnik's legs while a piano diddly plays would still be intact,

I must have been pretty loopy by the end of that 14 hour straight session I beat the game in because I don't remember that at all. It sounds fucking hilarious though.

Went to Washington this weekend to take care of some personal business. Flew for the first time, too. That was pretty terrifying, since flying's always been one of my biggest fears. Jetlag's hitting me pretty goddamned hard right now, too.

Had a really great time, though.

Oh, damn. :( Hope you land on your feet elsewhere, man.

It's too bad that apparently everything was closed because of the US government's shutdown. Still good that you had a good time. The last time I went on a plane was when I was a baby, so I don't remember anything, haha.

Chaotix part of the ending.
Yup. They said they wanted to know why Robotnik never paid them, and then they go off to find him to break his legs for cash.
