Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo we takin' bets on whether Schala's gonna end up liking Toriyama's Waifu Returns or not?

Cuz even if we don't, I just want you to know Schala, that I'll be supporting you through every cringy dialog in that game, in spirit!

Schala and Noi, I trust you both will be voting for Ni No Kuni as RPG of the year at the 2013 VGX?
No.

OR MAYBE SCHALA ALREADY POSTED IT HERE TOO AND I JUST CAN'T SEE IT YET
I was wondering why you took so long so I ended up posting it in there myself, anyway! :D

Tyson Hesse (known for Boxer Hockey and Coldman's avatar) did the standard cover for Archie Sonic issue #258:
Wow, that's awesome for him! Great start. Hope he does more for the books... and it seems like he's doing MM#34? Excited.

I felt so embarassed for the voices and the cutscenes, I usually don't care about silly characters if the game is good but jesus I couldn't stand a thing in that game. Luckily I didn't play enough to find out if there were other kawaiifications of consoles.

About Konami.. they only care about Kojima I guess.
They still owe me a new Ganbare Goemon. A decent one please. Or even an HD port of the N64 games.

To end the post, I exchanged PES for Wii Party U, because I'm sure someone will gift me Sawneec LW for christmas and I needed a Wiimote..
Konami only cares about Kojima, really. Or at least the pillars that easily make them money aside from pachinko. The excuses of Genso Suikoden games they churned out this gen just makes me wonder. One was full-budget and acted as a slap in the face, and the other was a low-budget slap in the face. Haha.

I think Wii Party U would be a better investment though I haven't played Wii Party. As for Neptunia, the Japanese dub wasn't any better, imo. Everything's so exaggerated, it hurts.

By the time there are a plethora of worthwhile games on here, Sony will probably have some kind of Sub Account promotion anyway. I'm pretty sure that Sony rep prematurely let that information out last week in fact.
That's silly. Can you call Sony and say that you're a primary owner of your PS4 and maybe they can probably change what your account is like?

Added you, btw.

Add away if any of you'd like.

I've been on a bit of a retro kick lately. Went back and listened to all the old Rare games tracks (David Wise and Grant Kirkhope rock), been listening to Chrono Trigger, Mario games, stuff like that. So I think I'm set on that.

Let's see here... Maybe a mixture. Rock, electronic, and Ambience if you could.
Falcom soundtracks. :p

I'm not the person to ask with respect to Rare soundtracks because Nocturnowl will hit me. :V

Sorry for asking this but could someone link to that post or article about the flaws of Jak 2?
Flaws may not be the proper word but I want to read it, please.

I ain't importing that. Bean and Noi told me not to. I went with Bravely Default and Sen no Kiseki instead this year.

I get the feeling, based on the stream I'm watching, that I'm probably going to dislike aspects of it. The streamer can be skilled when he's paying attention, so we'll see how high-level play looks with that thing. Otherwise, I'll be looking over Japanese Wikis to help JP players out like I did with FF13-2 and seeing how the gameplay system works based on that sort of analysis.

But the over/under right now? I might think it's mediocre like I think the other FF13 games are.

Thanks for the links Schala, hope you enjoy Bravely Default, it has that classic FF feel that's been missing this gen.

Guys should I go for Xenoblade Chronicles for $40 or 3D world for $60.

I'm terribly conflicted as I love the enemy design of Xenoblade (from the pictures I've seen) and was burned when they ran out of copies and I was too slow to get one, and on the other hand 3D world looks damn good.
Friggen Gamestop but what are you going to do (legally)

Tizoc

...Both.
I'm not gonna play it anytime soon mainly as I don't have a WiiU, but 3D World is a 'GotY 2013' nominee for just how fun it looks to play.

EDIT: If it helps, find games you could trade in and try to get 3D World, at least, at a discounted price.

Dark Schala

Eloquent Princess
Go for Xenoblade if you're on a budget because that game seems limited in terms of how many copies were printed.

Tempted to import Lightning Returns, but talking about it with other GAF members and I'm like... ehhhhhh... maybe not.

If you buy that game I'll personally shoot down the carrier that's delivering it so you'll never receive it.

Every time I tell you to stop playing bad games, you don't listen to me, though. :/

Sometimes I just realize it halfway through because the game is good at first. >.>

Everytime Schala plays a bad game, someone's physical copy of Suikoden 2 breaks.
Beef, you usually laugh if I play a bad game, so it's almost like you treat it as something positive.

I played one chapter of Time and Eternity and moved on to something better for a long while.

You played Time and Eternity and played through the whole game twice in a row.

I'd be envious of you getting the Japanese ver. due to your understanding of moon runes =/
Save your money for February, who knows maybe by then you can trade stuff in and get the game for much cheaper. Plus you'd be playing it alongside your fellow GAFfers

Dark Schala

Eloquent Princess
I don't trade games in, actually.

And to be honest, I kinda like helping people who are playing an English version of a game that I'd previously played in Japanese. It's pretty fun. So I dunno yet. We'll see.

The streamer either sucks or just doesn't care because he's button-mashing and not doing much in terms of battle tactics at all. So I can't tell how the battle system really is outside of timed blocking being incredibly beneficial.

I played one chapter of Time and Eternity and moved on to something better for a long while.

You played Time and Eternity and played through the whole game twice in a row.
You platinumed Ni no Kuni when you really really really didn't want to. Same goes for Jak II.

You played Warrior Within three times in order to platinum it like last week or so.
You platinumed Assassin's Creed III and we both ripped that game to shreds.
I can't remember if you cared for Dante's Inferno, but you platinumed that tooooooooo.

Pot.
Kettle.
Black.

I think it's more that I've played more crappy games this year than normal, coupled with having a crappy year in general. So the entire situation is slightly exacerbated? Maybe?

gurl don't even play dat

Games played since Ass Creed 3 at the very bottom:

I'd list the ones since Dante's Inferno, but that's like half my list. The ratio of bad to good I play is pretty one-sided, I just play a lot of games period. :V

Dark Schala

Eloquent Princess
Boy, don't give me lip, now.

DmC?
Time and Eternity?
Warrior Within?
PS All-Stars which you didn't like iirc?
Jak II?

You still plat some tedious stuff that you still complain about. :V

Noi

Right, but I play a metric ton of good games in between.

Right now you're contemplating importing LR after slogging through two awful sonic games and puppeteer and time and eternity and unbalanced neptunia but without actually beating your good games!

Recent ones?

pokemon
sen no kiseki
dust off your wee u and play W101
you're probably getting the new mario so there's that
ps4

I don't know your whole collection. :v

Do I play this copy of Donkey Kong Country 3 that i've never played?

The only disc game I have on PS4 is AssCreed Pirates.
Pokemon can be played another day.
Sen no Kiseki ... ok.
Wii U will get played this week.
Zelda.

Wait, isn't Tearaway out this week?

Dark Schala

Eloquent Princess
Fiiiiine.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, everyone. I know people generally dislike when that happens otherwise in this thread or any other thread.

ANYWAY. CARRY ON.

Oh yeah, Tearaway. A new Vita game! I think it's actually out here today but I won't get to the shops 'til Friday.

Hopefully it's better than Gravity Rush ended up being.

my schedule:

r&c: into the nexus (currently playing, should finish tomorrow because it's short). it's kinda standard r&c with some fun new tricks. nothing super incredible like a crack in time, but i'm enjoying it so far.

after r&c, there's probably going to just be thursday night where i do something completely different. don't want to start something with mario, zelda, and tearaway hitting on the same day.

but i'll play zelda first, i think. brand new 3ds xl + portability will be good leading into the holidays. super mario 3d world afterwards, with either metal gear rising or w101 filling the gap between mario and tearaway, and the other platinum game after tearaway. i think i'll be caught up on 2013 at that point, with only ys to go.

Wouldn't a thread hijacking kinda imply that there was already a thread of discussion happening beforehand?

...I don't think that tends to happen much in here.

I'm actually glad we're getting Super Mario 3D World a week after America this time, gives A Link Between Worlds some time to breathe. Even then, I'm still up to me ears in releases from this year (currently playing Dream Team Bros. and Ace Attorney 5, have Soul Hackers in the post, The Last of Us and Project X Zone (I know what you guys have said about this one, but I bought it more for the fanservice of the characters than any expectations of its quality as a game) sitting on the shelf).

Too many games! Still so many current gen games to get around to before I even think about buying a PS4 or XBONE (even though the launch hype has been creeping up on me).

Oh my God. Why so expensive ;-;[/QUOTE]

Not that I'd ever buy it but this is really, really cool. Only way it could be cooler is if it had a sound thing in it that played Modern City Escape's music when you pushed a button.

SonicGAF's Song of the Day - #57

Song: Volcano Valley Act 1 2
Game: Sonic 3D (32-bit)
Composer: Richard Jacques

It's easy to make big orchestral productions like this come out sounding generic, especially with the obligatory choir in tow, but Jacques had a strong vision for the music and stuck to it. There aren't any fancy flourishes and everything that isn't the string section is quite subdued, but as a result it ends up having this powerful, distinctive sound. The strings bring in a sense of high tension with their strong hits, while the long, drawn out notes from everything else give it an oppressive air. And that would be decent enough as a piece on its own, but what really ties this one together is the shift to a heroic tone in the back half. You're My Hero as a leitmotif is kind of overplayed in this soundtrack, but it's hard to complain when Jacques keeps using it so well, and its presence here gives the piece its own unique balance.

Today I went to pack up some old mags and such I still had in my mom's house, and I found this Sega Magazine dated 1994. It had a SoR and a Sonic strip, and a Sonic CD review (score was 90, didn't take the time to read it).

I took a pic of the Sonic comic..

(from my facebook page pls do not hack)

Is it a translation of the ones you get in the US?
PS: as you can see the magazine is Italian, I might put up some more pics later.

The answer was never in doubt.
Xenoblade-Chronicles.jpg

Very lengthy playtime - and that's without going out and doing the sidequests (btw, when you get the game: don't focus very hard on the sidequests, just accept all of 'em and play the game normally; you'll do half of them along the way without even trying, anyway) - and relative obscurity and rarity, both work in this game's favor.

SM3DW will be around for as long as the Wii U is. Xenoblade will probably rise in price again. If you don't like it, odds are you can probably make a profit on it in the aftermarket.

This sounds more like the backing to some climactic JRPG lmao. Pretty good though, it stays pretty simple to it's benefit. You don't need anything overly elaborate. You sum up the technical aspects pretty well. I just can' get over how dramatic it is for a level theme.

Edit: Also yeah get Xenoblade, it's a great game. Well worth your time.

Also, Sciz, I don't care what that video says, that's Act 2.

Hm.

So it is. Seems like one of the more widespread rips, and the one I have, has the two flipped. Haven't ever played the Saturn version so I didn't catch that myself.

edit: Also another GAFfer's done clean rips of Mario & Sonic 2014's Sonic mixes. The three Advance mixes are delightful, but someone please keep Senoue and his Sonic 4 synth away from Diamond Dust.

I just got the chance to play Lost World on the WiiU resulting in another meh experience.

Sonic seems to be stuck moving in exactly 8 directions, seems better than the earlier builds which seemed to be 4 directions only, but it's still stiff. Sonic has almost no acceleration and deceleration, making his movement feel awkward.

There doesn't seem to be much ability to self correct while in a jump.

The Homing attack is confusing and awkward. You seem to be able to combo targets with homing attacks in a sort of Panzer Dragoon style but you can't paint the targets in anyway and the homing seemed inconsistent.

Everything feels disjointed and awkward, from his homing attack to how he moves and jumps, there's no real inertia or momentum to anything and it makes all your movements feel unpredictable and dangerous.

I never thought I'd say this, but maybe we should go back to the boost gameplay, being so much more automated gives them less opportunities to get everything so wrong.

That's because Act 2 comes before Act 1 on the track listing, for some reason. I think this also happens for Rusty Ruins, and technically, Volcano Valley comes before Diamond Dust in the listing, too - again, no idea why.

And honestly, the Saturn and PC versions are the only ones I've bothered beating.

Can't be any worse than what Bioware did to it.
