Well, Hedgehog fanatics, what is your favorite zone out of every single Sonic game? You must only pick one.
My pick would be Lava Reef Zone. Enemy placement was fun and challenging, designs were beautiful, music is phenomenal, and how your entry is into the boss fight and the fight itself left me speechless.

The clash of the coloring on the background with the lava is so nice. The lava fall was pretty cool too.

Taking into account visuals, music and stage design I'm going with Chemical Plant Zone.
Though speaking purely on the visuals Casino Night is my favourite.

Sometimes I ask myself "What am I doing here?" I think of all the reasons, but it's still not clear.
It was hard to single out one, but I choose Chemical Plant Zone. The dark and menacing city in the background, the purple Mega Muck... And let's not forget the timeless music.
Your reasons for Lava Reef are pretty much my reasons as well. I'd definitely put that zone as my second fav.

Rooftop Run pretty much rejuvenated my love of the Sonic series, so that's going to be my pick. There's never really been a zone in Sonic that I was ever mega-hyped to play (not that any of them are bad, bar Hilltop), and then BAM: I hear Rooftop Run.

Sounds to me like you're just focusing on the music. Rooftop Run does have awesome music though and it is my stand out from Unleashed and damn good in Generations as well.

I didn't like all the cave segments. I had always gotten Super Sonic by the time I got there, and there was no use for it. I would almost always run out of rings every time I had completed one!

Super Sonic he says, I can't put myself through the effort of "bonus" stages to suffer such a ringless fate in the caves.
Sounds good. One of my favorite cutscene moments of the game.
Dead Line from Sonic Rush might be my favorite zone. Its one of the few good final zones and is reminiscent of Death Egg from S&K without the bad parts.
They could port the Rush games! But lets not kid ourselves. Next up will be Sonic Heroes HD which'll scar a whole new generation of players as it did me. -_-

I honestly couldn't pick my favorite zone. There's so many good ones.
If the EU PSN store is any indication, they seem perfectly content with having it as a PS2 Classic. It's better thanwasting expending manpower on an HD port, especially since Sega actually seems to have a good handle on producing them now.

Chemical Plant. It's got insane speed, platforming, a setpiece with the rising mega muck, and arguably the best theme song in a series with countless amazing themes.

It's like you guys are asking me to pick my favourite game within a series or something here. I could probably pick my favourite zone per game if pushed for it, though.
Generally, though, it seems as though my favourites aren't necessarily because of level design, and they should be, but because of the art and music used in those zones.
I think we're done here. Perfect.

I'd pulled out my .VGZ for Chemical Plant Zone and noticed the wallawallas before making that post, man.
Rooftop Run and Dragon Road are up there (and fucking Sweet Mountain and Planet Wisp!), but if I'm picking just one, then it will be Chemical Plant Zone. It managed to be great and memorable 3 times over (Classic and Modern Gens).

It was a Knuckles in Sonic 2 Death Egg thing, although I did have Meteor Herd playing since Knuckles was in space against the Death Egg Robot.
