Some things are best left in the past.

Like the Sonic the Hedgehog video game franchise

Then those should be brought to the present and preserved for future generations to enjoy.

and I'll wait forever if I have to for Sonic 1 and 2 Taxman remaster on non-mobile systems if I have to~

I don't trust the anniversary games than end with 5 after the 15th debacle.

I just want Sonic 1 and 2 iOS on Steam, PSN and XBL SEGA, fuck's sake do it.
I will double dip.
You can make vita and ps4 be not crossbuy and i will gladly buy them again.

Does anyone know if the limit was taken off usb flash drives for 360? I thought I remember it being upped from 16 gb to 32 gb a while back, but now it seems to be unlimited/2TB (?). Was thinking of buying a 64gb or 128gb usb, i hate splitting ny game saves between 2 usbs and a 20gb hdd. I was also considering getting Unleashed digitally...

What do you guys think about Sonic 4?

I kinda enjoyed the first episode. It was a mediocre, low rent game that shouldn't have been called Sonic 4 but I sorta kinda liked it a little as Dimps' Cheap And Lazy Sonic Digital RehashRemix.

The second episode was a mess of unfun team up mechanics and long, drawn out boss fights that I couldn't stand.

Ep. 1: The visuals are solid, leading to a game mirroring the look of the classic games. The music is disappointing due to poor quality but some tunes like Mad Gear Zone sound fantastic. The gameplay is very average; nothing close the Genesis games. Control is really off and the physics aren't even close to what they are supposed to be. Overall disappointing but serviceable Sonic game.

Ep. 2: Grand improvement in a number of areas. The visuals look amazing and the soundtrack, with the exception of the boss theme and Oil Desert, sounds great. The controls got a huge improvement over Ep. 1 and the rolling is mostly better now. The team-up attacks with Tails are great additions to the level designs and those themselves are improvements over Ep. 1. Special stages are better though lack originality. Overall much stronger game and while it doesn't 'deserve' to have the Sonic 4 name, it is a great console 2D Sonic game :).

Proof that nobody at Sega remembers why Sonic was cool.

Episode 2 wasn't awful, but it was too little, too late.
This right down to E2 being okay but way too late for anyone to give it the time of day.

Weird how they seemed to know it'd bomb before release since they removed the Episode 3 teaser. Wasn't it rumored Taxman and the Castle of Illusion remake devs were going to work on that if it happened?

The thing is, I don't think Sega knew it would bomb. I distinctly remember a tweet from Sega brand manager Ken Balough at the time where he was wondering outloud why Episode 2 was selling so poorly when it was so much better than Episode 1.

The thing with Taxman was that, as I recall, Sega contacted him asking if he'd be interested, but the whole thing dissolved before talks progressed any further than that. I think it was Castle of Illusion HD itself that ended up taking precedence. Any sort of "Episode 3" project never even got started.

Episode 2 had some pretty skies. Like that was clearly the game's "thing" when you stop and look at it.

Also, I thought the bosses got pretty creative, even if they went on for too long.

Episode 2 suffers with the Sonic 4 name but I totally agree that it's one of the better attempts at a 2D Sonic. I rather liked the bosses, especially the last one. It was such a nice change for the last boss not to be a giant robot shaped after Eggman. The whole thing had a lot more confidence than Episode 1.

how you let Freedom Planet be a better Sonic game than yours brehs

Sonic 4 was created to cash in on the retro revival fad, by people who did not remember or understand what made the original Sega Genesis games special. It was a hollow shell of an imitation.

Freedom Planet started life as a Sonic fangame (I still have a couple of REALLY old screenshots where Lilac was still a hedgehog and she collected gold rings) so it was kind of by Sonic fans for Sonic fans, in a sense, even though that's being a bit reductive.

Didn't Sonic 4 also start as a mobile game before they realised that they couldn't call a game Sonic 4 and then only have it release on mobile so they had to port it to consoles too.

I've heard that rumor, yeah. It supposedly started as an iOS game and then somebody at Sega decided to push it as a full-on "Sonic 4" revival.

There's a very blurry ferris wheel texture in Casino Street Zone that appears to say "SONIC THE PORTABLE"

"Sonic The Portable" (People have grabbed cleaner rips, just can't find them on Google right now)

It was pretty telling that they "fixed" the console versions of Episode 1, but made none of the changes to the iOS version. Pretty much everything broken about the leaked build was broken in the iOS edition.

Edit: *massive fist shaking**

I was going to write "At the hedgehog with a 5 o'clock shadow", then realized I was going to have to dig up that picture where someone has Shadow as a beard and got lazy.

Edit: Huh, never knew this about the Sonic X comic:

I mean, technically there's nothing wrong with it, it's the same franchise, same series even.

Edit: Huh, never knew this about the Sonic X comic:

That's the "work" of one Todd Wahnish, who penciled #15 and 16. The panels he didn't trace aren't the worst off model work Archie's ever seen, but the difference in quality is pretty painful.

Most of the art being traced isn't really what proves he didn't give a shit, though.

scale, how does it work

Still better than Mick (Mike?) McMahon's work on Sonic the Comic, though.

Like, he's... okay as an artist for Judge Dredd or Tank Girl, from what little I've seen, but Sonic the Comic... blegh.

His Sonic? Based on the box art for Sonic 3D Flickies' Island. You know, the one with his spines bending in all the wrong directions.

His background furries? Take a white human, complete with knobby elbows and knees (where relevant), chop their head off, and slap on the head of the relevant animal. It was pretty lazy.

I really, really didn't like his art as a kid. I think I can tolerate it a little bit better now, either because I'm an adult instead of a petulant pre-teen, or because I haven't been subjected to it for a long time, but I still can't say as I'm a fan.

I mean, at least he's not Ron Lim or Ken Penders? Not like these are tall bars...

So when is Sonic Megamix Sega CD version ever going to be complete?

And on that note, Sonic Adventure 1 is still fun to run through every so often.

Sucks that actual Sonic games dropped off the earth after lost world.

Cool thanks. That new starry night zone track was nice.

Edit: oh its gonna be two games now? Sonic 1 megamix and Sonic megamix. I wonder if both will be Sega CD...

Or if they'll do CD prints...though that would probably result in a cease and desist.

Sonic with a scouter looks pretty neat, albeit not something I'd expect him to ever wear.

He wore it in Episode 2, and almost never after that. I think Tails wore it a few times?

Sonic X was one of those shows that took a few episodes to figure out what it was doing.

Yeah. I remember, I've watched it, just commenting on how well it fits him.

What I don't remember is Tails with a scouter, it's been too long since I've watched it.
