So has anyone played Sonic Before the Sequel? It's a fan game. I discovered it through Saltybet music. Is it good?
I have played After the Sequel and it is quite fantastic. I put it close to the Mega Drive games in terms of quality and the music is glorious.

I suspect Before the Sequel might be as good.

Didn't know that existed either! I'll have to give them a try. Thanks!

I'll second the notion about Before/After the Sequel being pretty good, but something about them has always kind of... rubbed me the wrong way, a little bit? And I've never been able to exactly nail down what about them I don't entirely like.

They're very "throw ideas at a wall and see what sticks." And not everything always does.

Which I've always seen as a symptom of the developer getting these games out in like, a year each (give or take a few months). That's uncommonly fast for a fangame primarily developed by one person.

The same developer is doing original games now, and seems to be taking his time a lot more.

Level design is weak, both in terms of structure and level gimmicks, and the art design is all over the place thanks to large amounts of assets being ripped from the Genesis games and mixed with new art that isn't quite in the same style.

The soundtracks are much better than the games they're attached to, so I guess they are kind of like official Sonic titles in some regard.

Then they improved a lot in After the Sequel, as the level design is one of the best things about that game.

I'd be keen for the Sonic Twitter (hi Ruby!) etc to acknowledge the hacks and roms now that they're complicit in the whole thing. "Hey! Check out this thing. It's on Steam and we can talk about it now!"

"Hey there was that rumor that fire and ice hasn't been worked for like a year"

*trailer largely looks the same*

"I hope that rumor isnt true"

I think the music is great.

Can't wait for Sonic to change its formula, too

I mean, it already does do that with every goddamn new release (barring Unleashed through Generations), so this is a safe bet to make

What if changing the formula meant sticking to something since the formula itself is constant change

That's like meta changing

Am I the only Sonic fan that didn't think Freedom Planet was all that great?
I will take it over any Dreamcast and Modern era Sonic game not named Sonic Colors or Generations. My only issue with it was how ridiculous huge the levels were.

I am kind of looking forward for Freedom Planet 2.

Daytime Unleashed, Colors, and Generations were all steps in the right direction. Generations was fantastic and I would love another one.

What didn't you like about it? Granted, I thought the gameplay was fine but didn't like everything outside of it.

It's hard to put my finger on exactly.
I guess my biggest issue with the game was its flow of the game. Many of the later levels just throw so much at you in the way of multi-hit enemies and barriers that it often bring the game to a halt. It feels like the developers threw in tons of enemies and extra length to the level to pad the game out, and it's one of the few instances where I feel the game could have actually benefited from being a little shorter or more broken up.

Admittedly, a good deal of it probably stems from my preconception of what the game was going to be; I expected a speed platformer in the vein of Sonic. However, Freedom Planet has a much greater emphasis on combat than I expected, an emphasis I didn't particularly like.

No.

I litterally edited that out of my response because i felt it was too sassy

"Hey people are just modding with ease old levels characters that function quite with this engine. Levels that previously seemed poorly designed come to life with these mechanics, we have stumbled upon a gold mine. Not for just this game we could hypothetically speaking just remake older levels and create new fun games. With multiple characters shadow and tails on the modding scene with substantial amounts of downloads, this could games we have numbers shown interest, we could sell dlc. We can use this thing we have created to bank roll more experimental sonic projects, whilst having a steady quality stream of consistent games. With multiple playable characters, we can literally please everyone. And start to actively turn some public perception around on a lot "

"No"

"No?"

"No" as he throws sonic lost world onto the table.

Another E3 without a new Sonic game. Why.

After what feels like two years straight of teasing complete with an anniversary shindig we get....another trailer for a sonic sequel no one asked for that probably could've released last year to little difference.

Can't wait to see what they hint at next, "oooohhh we got some BIG news coming this summer", then we find out it's a remix of Big the Cat's Lazy Days theme, by Hunnid P for some reason.

I can see that, yeah. The levels are really varied and cool but they're all like, 10-20 minutes long your first time through. And it's not like in a modern game like Call of Duty where you have a checkpoint every 90 seconds. If you give up midway through a Freedom Planet level you could end up having to replay a fair chunk.

I found the focus on combat to be interesting, personally. Everything takes multiple hits because most of your attacks deal multiple hits. I don't think Lilac's Rocket Knight dash would've felt anywhere near as satisfying if it didn't hit multiple times.

I think that whatever they make for the 25th anniversary will at least be half decent. Sonic Team do make good games.
They have ability to make good games, and they occasionally do.

But whether they have the correct frame of mind to make consitant good games and good money making descions that has yet to be seen

When folks are litterally modding and showing you a gaint potential money pile, gaming news sites reporting on this. And you go , no? Thats when my hope starts going down the drain. Because that seems like an indication of you not functionally understand why it was good and not having enough foresight to see what was happening infront of.

What's the best DC ver. of Sonic Adventure?
Is it the Original NTSC-US release or SA International? Or are they one and the same?
