2.1 one in the key 18-49 demographic

I think 3.8 million overall.

All this does is astound me at how well The Walking Dead does in viewership lol. Because this is considered really damn good.

This show is huge for basic cable, does incredibly well.

Walking Dead is on another planet. It is simply staggering how many people watch that for a basic cable show.

Can't wait until that CO get's fucked up. I literally couldn't stand my Tig avatar after this episode. Fuck you pope, hope you get one in the ear. Sorry I am still mad.

You and me both.

Can't believe he's gone.

I mean his 2 kids .... orphaned.

Tig needs to get fucking wacked. Now he is basically going to be Jax's bitch, I see no worth for him now. Especially since Clay is not in charge.

I really hope Chuck Zito's character Frankie Diamonds can fill some kind of void. But I doubt it. Heard him on the Howard Stern show talking about his role and in these 3 episodes I've seen him once I think.

That look on Opie's face, Jax's suffering as he watches, the sheer brutality of the hit, the sound of the pipe, and Opie getting his head crushed, just unbelievable, I was shedding man-tears.

Same dude I actually almost cried, surprised I didn't to be honest as he's one of my favorites. I really want Pope to get the lead pipe now, fucking Pope man.

pope is awesome.. but I'm still confused was he mentioned in previous seasons? If he is so huge in a small town like charming why wasn't he doing stuff before

Pope lives and operates in Oakland, which is probably ~40 miles away from where Charming is supposed to be.

Opie!

Jax revenge is going to be amazing. Can not wait till he catches up to the prison guard. Jax should kill everyone involved.

9 million people watched the season 2 finale of The Walking Dead. The most watched cable TV show in the history of cable television.

Oh man I can not wait until that sgt prison guard gets his. I hope his death is even more brutal than Opie's. And I'm really digging Pope as the main bad guy this season. I hate his fucking guts but this man is fucking diabolical.

Ope was my favorite character and I always wanted to see jax ruling with him as vp

damn

I still love how this season's building up. No joking around, shit's brutal

well my favourite character is no more. the club has been nothing but bad for opie, it cost him a big chunk of his life, he wife, his father and now it's cost his life and the chance to see his children grow up.

it should have been tig but of course it can't be, he needs to get revenge on the big bad pope because he killed his daughter, never mind it was his ill thought out actions that resulted in his daughter being killed.

another thing about the episode. it was great to see gemma get put in her place by tara. it's been a long, long time coming. did anyone else think the beat down gemma put on the girl was more about how she got put her place by tara than about clay?

the ending also deserves a special mention. jax taking command was a sight to behold. the tension in that scene was incredible.

overall, a very good episode but opie's death has put a big downer on this season for me, now matter where it goes from here, not even them getting the sargeant responsible will be able to lift it.

rip opie. you were too good for the sons. :(

And The Shield. Now that I think about it, they're all similar shows and they've all given me that same level of anxiety during certain scenes. Not many other shows do that well.
The Shield's finale had me in fucking tears multiple times.

And the finale of season 5 of The Shield had me balling my eyes out.

Yeah i woke up to this news and it's incredibly sad.

I still will withhold judgement till the full story comes out. I assume it will have something to do with drugs because the whole climbing up on the roof and falling to his death is just bizarre, same with killing a harmless 81 year old lady.

Sutter's thoughts on the mattter:

http://www.whosay.com/kurtsutter/content/404295?wsref=tw&code=Oqn4g42

not sure if folks know this yet, but johnny lewis (halfsack) died last night. the sad irony of it happening two days after opie's death is not lost on me. it was a tragic end for an extremely talented guy, who unfortunately had lost his way. i wish i could say that i was shocked by the events last night, but i was not. i am deeply sorry that an innocent life had to be thrown into his destructive path. yes, it's day or mourning, but it's also a day of awareness and gratitude. sadly, some of us carry the message by dying.

Makes you wonder if there were other reasons for Lewis leaving the show other than him wanting to pursue other roles.

Opie's.....
death was something that was seriously needed even though the aftermath has left some fans pissed. The SoA always felt like they were invincible no matter how deep they got into something. I posted earlier that this show lacked weight and immediacy and this move really changed the overall mood of the show, I think, for the better.

I dont think anyone's particularly seriously pissed at Opie's death. It's more of the fact that the series was fucking bruuuuuutal to him. No rest. Most tortured character in TV in quite a while

Opie had pretty obviously reached the end of his arc. It was a tragic downward spiral, but all last season and the beginning of this season, he was a dead man walking. Everything was taken from him, and he went down protecting the club and his best friend.

It's much better than having him go nuts and be a fucking idiot like Tig.

I only wish Kim Coates was half the actor Ryan Hurst is, because we are still stuck with him.

A big problem for me with Ope's death is similar to my problem with Boardwalk Empire after the end of season 2 - there isn't really any likeable main characters left.

I've never really gotten invested in Jax because his "I want to leave but I can't!" woe-is-me bullshit got old a couple seasons ago. And he has a dumb angry walk. Chibs and Bobby are cool but not really main characters - hell, Chibs has hardly spoken since getting his revenge on the Irish. As for everyone else, I really couldn't care if the rest live or die.

I think the issue is writing great anti-heroes/antagonists/morally-grey characters worthy of emotional investment is really hard (which makes The Shield and Breaking Bad so great - they perfected it) and I don't think the SoA staff writers are good at it.

You may dislike the Tig character, but Kim Coates is a fantastic actor. Top of his game.

NumberTwo

Paper or plastic?
Even more tragic when you realize Jax pulled him back into that life (season 1). He lost everything and died; he was basically the club punching bag.

It's amazing how Tig and Clay basically ruined his life on not one but two separate occasions. Both under very similar circumstances to boot.

SOA is one of many shows where the background noise is significantly louder than the audio of the characters talking. I have to constantly go from turning cc on and off.

It's not really the background noise, its his accent that makes him hard to understand sometimes.

Wow...is this the 3rd episode? If this is building up, what the hell are we moving towards!?

I agree with most here that Opie's death is both upsetting and understandable. I'm definitely sad to see a great character/actor leave the show, but at the same time it's a fitting end to the arc of a character who has lost everything in his life to the club.

Gemma throwing two tantrums almost derailed what was otherwise an amazing and intense episode.

Gemma has been very annoying so far this season. A lot of screen time spent on her being all full of mad that Tara is going to raise her own children and not let Gemma run her life.

No insult to the actor, but Juice is bothering me. Last season he rats, kills a fellow Son, and generally causes all sorts of problems for the club. That could all have been averted if, when initially picked up and threatened by Roosevelt, he had talked to someone like Jax or Chibs and said, "Hey, dude's trying to get me to rat." They probably wouldn't have cared about the black father thing, though that's my imagination.

This season he's acting like he holds Clay's leash. He caves in immediately to Clay's demands, takes him to Nero's, and causes people who were good and welcoming to the Sons to face punishment.

I realize this is how the character is being written, but I hope Sutter is setting Juice up for facing what he's done.

Juice's stuff was brought up in the last episode, so it's definitely going to come up at some point soon.

It's kind of like Tig and how they tried to get you to feel for him in the premiere. I'm incapable of feeling bad for that character after the shit he's pulled. I can't really laugh at Juice's situation or really look at him as another member of the club after what he did last season.

He and Tig both need to go.

The problem with Gemma is she's starting to get unrealistic. She's like a cartoon character. And on a show like this that says a lot.
