I wasn't too shocked by that moment because of the way they set it up, only really Opie could have died in that situation. It couldn't be Tig because they wanted him in jail for life, it obviously wasn't going to be Jax, and so it was between Chips and Opie. And Opie was the only one which made narrative sense in that moment.
It was sad to watch, though, the way Jax slammed his hand against the window and Opie went down swinging. But Tig's daughter being burned alive in front of him and the performance by that actor really made it so disturbing.
And then the final episode of that season when Tig thinks Jax betrayed him, and he's yelling at him going "you know what my daughter said? Daddy help, no Daddy. I had to listen to hear scream" or something like that, the WAY he said it was so unsettling. I only wish they developed his daughter as a character so that the character dying had more impact, but for me the impact was all in on how Tig reacted. What a crushing thing to have happen to a man
This show is really messy, but unlike some other shows that are a little sloppy, this one always seems to come around and nail it in the end

Do you really believe that? I was rolling when I saw that scene.

They've tried numerous times to recapture that moment but it just has diminishing returns.
Yeah i explained it a little earlier in the thread and people said there was mixed reaction to his performance there, but to me his manic "losing his mind" performance rung incredibly true in the moment. I thought it was very effective and I pretty much feel that actor is the best one on the show altogether, he has an intensity that's very hard to look away from when he's on point.
