I think you're mistaking the club Nomads and nomad as in a biker with no club.

Am I? I thought the Nomads were like a loose ad hoc Sons of Anarchy chapter, comprised of all the guys who didn't want to be members of the real clubs.

With what you're saying, that'd mean there's some club based in a location called Nomad...

He's the one that put his prosthetic leg up on Phil's (the fat prospect) shoulder at the table earlier in the episode.

That completely went over my head. I didn't even see the prosthetic in that scene or hear what they called him
Yep, that completely went over my head as well. I remember the guy putting his foot on the prospect's shoulder but don't remember them calling him Peg. Plus the prospect's a full member now, no? I have to watch it again but I don't mind because I thought it was a great season opener.

Damn, Pope is unreal. Calculated and subdued on the outside, but cold and ruthless on the inside.

I think Perrineau's subdued performance is really going to win people over as the season progresses.
When I first heard that Perrineau was cast as the main baddie this year I had my doubts. But after watching him on last night's show he sold the part terrifically. I like how they played him more as a business man than a lower level drug dealer.

I haven't read any reviews of the show yet but for me personally, I dug last night's show. It sure was brutal, especially the burning of Tig's daughter. I thought it was an awesome opening episode for the season.

The three Nomads are Gogo (Chris Browning), Greg the Peg (Kurt Yaeger), and Frankie Diamonds (Chuck Zito). Filthy Phil was patched in and is a full member (though him and Happy aren't technically regulars, even though Happy is in the promo pics and has a parking space).

Was he the one sitting close to Bobby? I thought I'd seen him somewhere, lol.

He was in Oz, I believe. He originally sued the show for saying he pitched it to FX, or something like that.

He also likes, uh, weird clothing. He basically wore the teepee the other day.

Now I remember where I've seen him, on Howard Stern's show when it was on E. They were talking about how Zito supposedly beat up Jean Claude Van Damme, lol :D

He was actually a Hell's Angel and was president of a chapter in New York.

I only mention them being from a different club because I heard Jax say that the nomands were disbanding.

God bless tight jeans, Jax is a very lucky man.

Also, Kims acting was better in that scene than Brad Pitts; WHAT'S IN THE BOX?, in Seven.

Looks like it might be a series high. Final numbers aren't in yet, though.
- 'Sons of Anarchy' premiere shatters records
EW.com said:
The explosive return of Sons of Anarchy did a number on the ratings, too: The 90-minute season 5 premiere attracted a whopping 5.37 million viewers, making it the most watched episode ever in the drama’s history on FX.

The episode was not only the No. 1 program on cable in viewers, adults 18-49 (3.5 million) and adults 25-54 (3.45 million), but it was the top-rated episode among men 18-49 and men 18-34 in all of broadcast and cable. It was up in all of the key demos too versus its fourth season premiere, including 10 percent in viewers and 14 percent in adults 25-54. In addition, it dominated the 10 o’clock hour in the key adult demos — even beating what was on broadcast TV.

“It’s so rare, especially in the current fragmented environment, to see a show grow into its fifth season,” said John Landgraf, President and General Manager, FX Networks, in a statement. “The fact that the season five premiere episode is also likely to become FX’s highest rated telecast of all time is a testament to the quality of work Kurt Sutter, the writers, directors, cast and crew have done on this extraordinarily ambitious and riveting drama.”

The SOA ranked as FX’s most-watched telecast in its 18-year history among men 18-49 (2.15 million) and men 18-34 (1.18 million).

Twelve more episodes will air on Tuesdays at 10. The motorcycle drama has already been picked up for a sixth season.

Huge numbers. Congrats to Sutter & Co.!

As for some of the comments about Tig's reaction to his daughter burning, I doubt anybody knows how they'd react. Tig's reaction was a mix of disbelief, trying to soothe his daughter, and pure rage. I thought it was brilliant. He was completely losing it and not sure how to process what was going on.

First half was very slow, but the second half I was like holy shit!

Can't wait to see Tig go to town on Pope, should be good stuff. The only problem I had with his reaction is that he didn't seem to fight too much, like I think I would have broken both my wrists trying to get loose, but who knows. He seemed to just kind of accept it was happening and made peace with it and started planning his escape and revenge.

Also thought I would hate Smits, but he seems alright so far. Also wonder what Clay is gonna do this season, no way he mopes around all year broken and beaten down.

One last thing, it was wonderful seeing Maggie Siff again, oh how I have missed dat ass.

One of the things the episode did very well was emphasize how little power Jax actually has.

The Nomads obviously still follow Clay. He tried pulling rank on the CIA, but that pretty much backfired.

I swore I will not be hook about this show after last season, but Teague's story is now fucking interesting. Also, Pope looking to be a formidable bad guy.

I was very nervous about Smits being on the show, he killed my love for Dexter and haven't gone back since (will edventually), but I REALLY like his character so far.

I thought Smits owned the Miguel Prada character. The problem was the Dexter writers had no idea what to do with him.

This episode was really typical Sons to me, picking up right where S4 left off, with very little of meaning ultimately happening. They are starting with the noose tightening early this season, which maybe there is an infinite climb of tension to build, but I doubt it.

The sadistic act that takes place in the episode is for shock value, it's a cheap device and the character it actually happened to is completely meaningless within the SOA cast.

Spoilers about what I'm talking about below:
Sure, it wounds Tig, but the character they torched? Totally pointless, throwaway character. Just a red shirt. Sutter hasn't demonstrated an ability to really hurt his characters yet. He seems like he's still in love with them all. I hope this season changes that.

This was always my problem with Sons. It's like he learnt nothing from working on The Shield.

Count of Concision
Trying not to read the thread since I haven't seen the first ep of season 5 - does anyone know when they'll re-air the first episode?

I loved the season premiere. Pope burning Tig's daughter while he watched chained was very unsettling and very fucked up. Only issue I had was the actor portraying Tig. Gemma's a slut lol and I didn't even notice the nomad with the prosthetic leg until I saw it at the end of the episode. Also poor Wayne :(.

Tig's daughter being burned alive is entirely Clay's fault, right? Would someone please shoot Clay in the head? I don't want him on the show anymore.

Between Jax, Opie, and now Tig hating him...I don't see him making it out of this season alive especially since they copped out on it last season

It was about what I was expecting. Though why are they hiding out in a brothel of all places, you'd think they'd at least have a safe house or something.

Also pope seems like an interesting character.

I bet Clay ends up getting used as a tool of some sort in a deal that goes down or something similar. And he knows he will die if he does it but does it anyway, and dies.

Would be much more badass if Jax put him on his hands and knees and shot him in the head though.

Great episode. Glad they upped their game on the Niners role on the show as their story arc always seemed half-assed compared to all the other gangs.

I thought Clay was going die last season though now he lasted the opener of this season, I'd prefer he'd go at least until the end of the season or even the end of the series (perhaps with a lesser role).

Finally got around to watching it. Tig's acting during that scene... no offense, not that emotional. I get that's how the character is, but, the acting was just bad :<

Overall, great episode and a good setup for the season! Can't wait.

Should this show be on my to-watch list? At first I heard it described as "A show about bikerdudes" which made me go "yeah, whatever", but then the IMDB description...

IMDB said:
A man in his early 30s struggles to find a balance in his life between being a new dad and his involvement in a motorcycle club.

...makes it sound quite a bit more interesting than I thought. So could someone give me their couple paragraph long pitch and tell me what makes this show great?

That IMDB description, my God...

(Ivysaur would be the best to give you a pitch).

Fuck, sorry, double post.

Fucking Clay man. Tigg is going to go nuts next episode. I've watched every SoA episode but a lot of the times I was drunk. So starting around 3 days ago I started watching from season 1 from scratch. Almost done w/ season 2 it's a real good refresher course for me. Love to see the tension building up all over again.

Fuck you Clay.

I hope Opie isn't absent too much.

Yeah same. Just watching the episode in season two where
Opie almost kills Stahl. I can't wait for the real scene where he finally does it. God I hated her so much!
