Yep those are awful. I cringe every time one starts.

I also wish that SAMCRO could have an adversary for once that the show didn't go out of its way to make a completely evil scumbag.

Lee Toric would be so much more interesting if he wasn't a completely corrupt scumbag. I mean, he's a drug addict who we've already seen forge something, torture people, accidentally kill someone, cover it up, and now plant evidence.

Hey Sutter, your fictional MC is a bunch of fucking worthless scumbags and I'm sure there are plenty of decent people who would want to take them down. That might be an actually interesting plot to watch for once instead of the typical SAMCRO's bad, but their adversary is even worse moral cowardice that the show constantly advances.

Yep. This just about sums it up.

I am sick of being treated like a fucking moron by the writers.

I just started episode 3 and Toric just 'accidentally' killed the hooker. Really?

The only reason why I have continued to watch post season 3 is that my girlfriend loves the show for some reason.

We haven't reached Dexter levels of bad writing/storytelling, but if it keeps on the same trajectory, are we really that far away?

My biggest question though…at this point, am I supposed to intensely hate every single character on the show?

Just saw an interesting theory on reddit that Bobby could actually be recruiting Sons to patch over to Redwood and essentially help the charter rebuild. This could also include a vote of no confidence in Jax.

I have a feeling tonight's episode will deliver big time.

I agree that the plotting in the past couple episodes has been a bit excessive, and the storytelling could use some tightening and trimming, but I think tonight a lot of things will fall into place.

edit - just checked Sutter's twitter:

https://twitter.com/sutterink/status/384831112402321408

tomorrow night, #SOAFX episode 604, WOLFSANGEL. there will be no unearned mercy. and no, i cannot be anymore cryptic.

I think he means business.

It's got to be something bigger than just nomads for sure.

Let's hope so. I'm running out of patience with the way things are going at the moment. The show becomes a lower and lower priority for me every week.
the thing is they keep having these ridiculous run times yet nothing actually happens. So what's the extra time for exactly? To pace things weirder? Makes no sense. Use the extra time god damnit.

Tonight the extra run time will be justified and well worth it.

I don't know if the episode will reach a gut punch to the degree of 'Laying Pipe', but I don't think a minute will be wasted.

Keep the faith!

How does Kurt Sutter get away with having so many extended episodes in a season? Is he really buddy-buddy with the network execs or something? I can't think of another show that has so many longer than normal episodes that aren't season/series finales.

Yup. They made sense for the ~3 extra long episodes per season before, but this just strikes me as lazy and sloppy.

Since they're just going to run the same episode right afterwards, I don't think it significantly impacts how they schedule programming for the evening. In addition, SoA puts up great numbers on FX, so he's given more leeway with how long they run. In general, FX is going to a model with varying episode length (most of their shows run over at least slightly from time to time), and that's a good thing.

Gets really good ratings. It's FX's highest rated show I believe (and it outperforms Breaking Bad and Mad Men). So obviously SoA gets a lot of love.

EW: Donal Logue talks Toric's latest deeds

“There were some people who were like, ‘That’s where [the show] crossed the line. I’ve been a huge fan for years.’ I was like, well then, for years, you’ve been a fan of a group of people who sell guns to people without one thought as to where they go or what they do. And now it’s uncomfortable when [the show] actually says, ‘Hey, there’s a repercussion to this. There’s a consequence to this kind of behavior.’ That’s what you’re outraged by?” Logue says. “I’ve always felt [with the character] Lee Toric, there really is this kind of thinking behind it, like, Let’s show you what it means and what it does. It’s upsetting, and it’s dark, so in a way, I think it’s kinda brave. There are so many shows where someone’s your cool CIA bad guy or good guy and spraying through an apartment complex of just teams of stunt men falling over things and no one thinks about it. There’s no real sense of death and loss. When they show it in this show, it’s hard.”

Now that we’re a month into the season, Logue thinks most fans understand the weight of the storyline. “It wasn’t a one-off to take advantage of these things that are shocking the country; it became the cornerstone of what was to be the final act, years in the making,” Logue says. “I have no more respect for another person on the planet than I do for Kurt Sutter and [fellow EP/director] Paris Barclay. There’s a method to the madness.”

Holy fuck. I was not expecting that at all.

So it looks like it's going to be the Irish as the main baddies this season? I definitely thought it was going to be Toric.

The route they were going with Toric wasn't that interesting to me so I'm kind of glad that they ended it. Toric could have been a great "villain" if he was actually sympathetic and good rather than just crazy.

what a complete waste of Logue

hopefully this means they can cut out the 5 arcs he was directly, or indirectly involved in.

I liked it. Toric had run his course (and apparently due to scheduling conflicts :/)and now the bigger picture is clearer regarding the Sons vs. the IRA.

RIP Filthy Phil and V-Lin. As for Otto...it's hard to say or think he's in a 'better place'.

A little help for my nomad CB:

Awesome episode in a pretty boring season so far. Shocked they killed Toric. I thought for sure Otto would try and Toric would prevent it from happening. Did they say they were going back to Belfast at the end there? I thought Sutter wouldn't be doing that anymore after the hate of season 3?(i think that was the one in Ireland). I guess Sutter felt like he had to kill the prospects after letting Tig live. Now to see what happens to Clay with no more Toric.

Haven't watched the episode yet, I was just checking in to see if they actually went through with killing Tig...clearly they didn't.

Even the girlfriend is getting sick of the show at this stage. I'll probably wait until the season is done and then marathon it.

Shit's bananas.

I love it when Sutter bites the bullet and just goes crazy. If Sons has a niche to fill, a specialty in this TV landscape, then this episode was it. It's never going to be Shakespeare. It's never going to be The Shield. So, let loose the hounds of war. I'd much rather have crazy exploitation than allusions to something it's not. It's more pure and more fun that way.

Well put. While I think the show has moments of brilliance, I don't always expect it to always reach those heights. Sometimes it just needs to be batshit insane.

So what's The Shield cameo count list at now?

Walton Goggins
Kenny Johnson
David Ress Snell
Jay Karnes
CCH Pounder
Benito Martinez
David Marciano

Anyone else? Come on Sutter, get Michael Chiklis on this show. Make him some scum bag skinhead or something.

Shit, so many cameos.

T-1000 and Jason Voorhees.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Not Phil :(
Was the skinhead Derek Mears? If so, he ain't no real Jason.

He is re-make hot garbage Jason.

Toric: Strangling Otto

Phil and V-Lin gettin' shot

Sons shooting up the Nazis

I guess I've gotta eat some crow, no pun intended, because I actually liked last night's episode.

I'm so glad both Toric and Otto are out of the picture.

They're doing another one of the after-shows next week:
