We'll know for sure after TGS.
where did you get this?
Also sounds like they won't launch PS4 in Japan this year after all
'imo' that's smart. EU and Americas are much more important strategically. I think if the wiiu was selling better they would have gone a different route but as it is they can ride the ps3 along for a while longer in JP market
lol they would have sold well at launch no matter what Nintendo would have put out. Seriously doubt that's a concern. The primary focus should be in having as many units as possible for the launch months in Americas and EU
Btw only one of those are for a home console this year and even that is the 3d game iirc. Different markets and different target audiences
Does the game division income include PS4 R&D?
Notwithstanding that Sony's financials have been a mess for years; historically Nintendo do not post losses; they're also solely reliant on their game business.Individual quarters are different to the full year's loss. Before we new Wii U's fate, people were panicking over the results around this time, iirc.

So the wii u figures being so bad somehow make the Vita's look ok? What are people smoking. They are awful!!
Sony are no longer a primary component manufacturer for TVs, their fixed costs are almost nil for production, and most of the assembly is in China except for their top end 4K TVs which have a huge profit margin anyway.
Getting out of manufacturing means Sony use almost the same business model as Vizio, but with a higher QC level. It also allows them to react to the market better, they don't have to keep producing LCD panels even if the market only demands half the amount, some other company (Sharp, Samsung, LG, AUO) bears that burden. It means Sony will never be massively profitable and they never really control their own destiny, but it also means they won't lose another $9bn trying and failing to make their own TVs.

Edit - Fixed the link
Where are you seeing this? They are launching in Brazil and India this year, so not being in Japan would be a conscious choice because of software availability rather than the old reason of not enough hardware. TGS is still to come and IIRC there is a separate event to introduce Japan to the PS4 as well.
Regarding the phones, is that the first quarter results since they released their first non Ericsson phone?
Well, I'm not exactly sure what you're saying (especially with the last sentence), but I think I agree, in principle. It makes more sense to focus on the US and EU this year since they have nothing appealing for Japan for launch (as announced now, TGS may change that). They may have sold well at launch week, but like Wii U, without software appealing to the home market, I think momentum would quickly fade. Western games will only get you so far.
Wrong
Kaz has enough money to buy a discounted new copy of Ni no Kuni
PS2 is not reported anymore... 1.1m is PS3 only. Why do Sony continue to lump both PS2 and PS3 sales together? Just show us the PS3 sales dammit.
Why do Sony continue to lump both PS2 and PS3 sales together? Just show us the PS3 sales dammit.
Why is the operating income in the negative? All of the Playstations are profitable (not sure about the Vita) and they had strong software sales through out the year. My only guess is a lot of money that is going into PS4 development right now that is putting the games division in the red.
Sony Q1 Report said:Sales were essentially flat year-on-year (a 15% decrease on a constant currency basis) at 117.9 billion yen (1,191 million U.S. dollars). This was primarily due to a decrease in unit sales ofPlayStation®3, PSP® (PlayStation Portable), and PlayStation®2 hardware, offset by the favorable impact of foreign exchange rates and increased software sales compared to the same quarter of the previous fiscal year. The decrease in sales on a constant currency basis was primarily due to the above-mentioned decrease in hardware unit sales. Sales to external= customers decreased 7.2% year-on-year.
Operating loss increased 11.2 billion yen year-on-year to 14.8 billion yen (149 million U.S. dollars). This significant increase in loss was primarily due to an increase in research and development expenses related to the upcoming introduction of the PS4, and a benefit recorded in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year due to the reversal of a Blu-ray DiscTM patent royalty accrual.
So whats the easy fix? Is Vita going to stop selling less than 20k a month in the US
Zomg how does this effect them when they move on to new display tech like OLD or Crystal .
Side note the really need to start getting there foot in the door for USA when it comes to smartphones .

What bullshit they combine PSP/Vita and PS2/PS3 sales together.
Nintendo should combine 3DS and WiiU sales and play them at their own game.
So the PS2, in FY 2012, managed to sell more than the Wii U since its launch?
How...?

Because the western lineup has been shit. They are waiting for killzone and tearaway
Fair enough. I have to admit that I am a little blown away by how good killzone looks.
I do think a cut is overdue in the western markets. It won't ever hit DS levels in the west, but PSP levels are still possible.
"Computer entertainment systems" is effectively just PS3 right now. Neither PS2 (in sales) nor PS4 (in forecast) are included. Why do Sony continue to lump both PS2 and PS3 sales together? Just show us the PS3 sales dammit.
Why would anyone put out a press release about reaching 78.3M unit sales. Or 78.5M. Or 79M. Or 79.5M.Unless Sony put a press release anytime soon, I doubt PS3 surpass 78.2m (360 shipment).
Congrats Sony!
As far as I'm concerned this is only the beginning. Their mobile phones and tablets are getting a lot of attention and Honami is shaping up to be quite the best. Their digital imaging division is producing unique, class-leading products and I'm REALLY hopeful that those sensor/lens add-ons for cell phones really takes off. TV quality seems to be picking up greatly... their W900 series are fracking amazing, and the 4K sets even more so. PS4 is shaping up to have a monsterous launch.
I think we're witnessing the birth of Sony 2.0
Damn... wish I had found a way to buy that Sony stock several months ago![]()

$35 million.$35? Fuck, why even post the amount.
They'll release a statement when they reach 80. Why would you say "78.21!"?
$35 million.
80 million is coming soon...Unless Sony put a press release anytime soon, I doubt PS3 surpass 78.2m (360 shipment).
Because surpass 360 is more big news than 80 million.
