I dont care for corporate doublespeak. None of us do. Hence why we are all sick of Philbo. I wish you had posted that gif in response to me showing how herman said something that completely refutes what jimbo just said. Not sure why you have an issue with me pointing out the discrepancy and no issue with the suits being dishonest just to appease people.

This man just released TLOU Part 1 on PC just 6 months after launching on PS5 and here he is saying they wont come for 2-3 years. Come on.

Weird. His own right hand man Herman Hurst said that GaaS games will launch on PS5 and PC simultaneously.

Was always going to be the case. They outlined the exact strategy ages ago on an earnings call.

But it's not though. GaaS aren't exclusives.

It doesn't matter when PC ports will be released if they're in a complete shit sate for months to come after launch (some not even fixed to this day and won't be), cuz tha't was PC ports have become with a very few exceptions.

Imagine believing that "gamers" told him that.

The last time Jim Ryan talked to an actual gamer was probably in the nineties. If there's one thing that weirds me out is idolizing a suit, but if there's one suit whose idolization by brand fanboys weirds me out more than anyone else's it has to be Jim Ryan.

The dude comes out like an ass even translated into Japanese, which is a feat.

GaaS rely on virality to establish and retain their userbases, so it makes sense to address the widest audience from the start as the goal is to keep them onboard for the long haul, with ideally other folks getting drawn in based on reputation and recommendation from friends.

Its the "rising tide lifts all boats" scenario, with success on one platform having a positive effect on the other. Conversely with a more traditional sort of title there's no equivalent benefit. Obviously, although Sony are going to be happy if anyone, anywhere wants to buy their product, they'd prefer it to be where they can benefit the most from the attention.

When combined together as part of a mixed line-up of releases it seems to me a real best-of-both-worlds approach.

MS do what they do because they don't see Xbox consoles as being central to their business goals, for them its all about the service and subscription economy. So long as they get that recurring income, and that combined across all platforms subscriber count continues to ramp up. Job done.
From the UK sales threads, we see that PCs account for roughly 15% of the software sales with the PS5 dominating around 65-70 percent, and xbox settling for 15-20%. I dont think having an extra 15% of a userbase is enough to have a meaningful impact in filling up lobbies.

If anything, the cheating in PC games is rampant and ps gamers are turning off crossplay to avoid having to play with KBM players and cheaters on PC. If anything, Id argue that gamers in MP games should be protected from PC and single player games should be the ones releasing in 2-3 years.

But thats a topic for another thread. I want him to be true to his word and release games on PC 2-3 years but he needs to confer with Herman who has been saying different things the last couple of years.

It's a remake of a game from 2013, c'mon. Main reason they developed that remake was to offer this game to PC gamers but with attractive visuals because original version wouldn't sell well at a high price.

That split may be correct for some single-player focused games like RE4 but certainly not for multiplayer focused games like Overwatch, Destiny or even Diablo 3/4. We're talking about GaaS here, let's compare apples to apples.

We'll see if Spider-man 2 or Wolverine releases on PC quickly after PS5 release.

How doesn't matter when they release if they are patched some time after?

I mean, its smart. Why devalue your console and split the user base on day one?
No reason to.

Exclusives are what make a brand. Love it or hate it. Want to play all the games? buy all the consoles

Oh come dude...it's a remake of a game which came out in 2013. The caveat of remakes/remasters, along with GAAS coming to PC day and date. Everything else won't.

So I do suspect the Bloodborne Remake/Remaster will come to PC day and date or a few months after. However not games like Ghost of Tsushima 2, Spider-man 2, Wolverine etc

I’m good with not day one hopefully they launch less than a year though. I think they could get better sales if they realease on pc within 6 months.

Yeah, by that logic Nintendo should release Tears of Kingdom on PC day one, I'm all in for that idea, lets go

Meanwhile, where are you guys when same thing are said about Nintendo? Post#1 Post#2
You only quoted half my post, Nintendo profits are too dependant on hardware sales but PS hardware is sold mostly at lost or at minimal profit, it makes sense for PS to avoid hardware dependability more so than for Nintendo, which putting games on other platforms harm their business way more, specially when they're almost exclusively a gaming company.

But don't get me wrong, I'd like Nintendo putting their games on PC, even if I had to buy a controller for them to even work, I think I would anyway to play as they're intended.

For now.

It wasn’t that long ago that they were never going to charge for online play, never have a GamePass type service, and never put their big stuff on PC at all 👍
They never said they wouldn't charge for online play. Ad they still do not have a gamepass like service. And they never said they wouldn't put their games on PC.

Those that do not get this, are just being ignorant. (using that word literally not as a diss).

Why? Because what PS+ extra/premium is now is just a merge of PS+ and PSnow. And PSnow has been there since 2014. Before gamepass. Just like people also seem to forget that sony was the one that started giving games with their service (2010) before Xbox joined them with games with gold (2013).

PS+ extra/premium is the same thing PSnow was,a game rental service. And as long as they are not putting A their games on it day 1, it's never like gamepass.

I think your sarcasm detector is a shade off. How do you even function on this forum that is 90% cheeky and memes most of the time?

I think your math is a shade off. If you really think that nobody idolizes Jim Ryan, or even that it's rare, I think you haven't been on the internet in the past decade.

The primary income for Consoles maker are the 30% cut from third party software, exclusives are incentive for people to venture into their platform, not the hardware itself. If software was their goal, why even make the hardware, just be a software publisher? By releasing exclusive on PC they lost another incentive for people to try their platform.

Of course as a PC + Console gamer myself, I would love them keep porting or releasing on PC day one, but that's not how that business works.

Edit: Not to mention the extra gain they had on PC from ports are only a tiny proportion compare to how many those game sold on the console, if you were the CEO will you sacrifice all of your killer app that incentivize console purchase just for that tiny bit of profit? I think what Sony did here was pretty cleaver, they port old games to incentivize sequel purchase, lure even more potential consumer for their platform to experience the sequel. And it payed off, look at how many unit their hardware sold after the supply constraint is over. In this sense, Nintendo could actually benefit from this model too, port old game that are stagnate in terms of sales to incentivize more potential consumer, the question instead of to port or not port should became which to port, be selective.

Not sure why anyone would expect that to happen, personally. It's why we haven't seen it yet, and it's why we never will. I'm sure they're well aware that the PC gaming market has grown exponentially over the years, if they were to simultaneously launch on PC and PS5 it'd surely affect the PS5 numbers. So, do it later then. PS5 launch sales happen for those that want it or prefer it, PC comes later and provides extra money on a title that's not moving as fast in the PS5 market at that point. Makes sense to me.

Best sales would be day one, because they easily spend >100 millions on marketing the big hitters. Stealth droping them months later on pc doesn't get you many sales.

Its a smart move.
Get it on their exclusive plataform, when its old and not generating revenue anymore go to PC.
PS players are willing to play, while PC players are willing to wait decades for them. Seems like a good deal to me.

Nintendo is different in that way, hardware + exclusives dominates their profits, that's why whenever someone asks, they get responded with "hardware profits" basically.

Sony also profit off from their exclusive, hardware could also profit when the cost comes down over time.

However 30% cut is huge for Sony, that there is even less reason for them to not incentivize people to buy their platform

Well nothing lasts forever right (other than diamonds :messenger_tears_of_joy:)? Who knows, maybe in 10 years time Sony decides to sell the PlayStation division to Apple and then all PS games will be PlayStation and macOS exclusive with the option to stream the games on iOS devices only. :messenger_beaming:

15% of a big userbase is a lot of eyeballs, and it acts as reminder to PC users that buying a Playstation might be something they are interested in.

Worst case scenario is that this drives self-segregation, but on the other hand if you have a bunch of PC dudes coming in after a service has been running on console for months or even years then it pretty much demands segregation due to the experience gap anyway... So it seems a defensible approach IMHO.

But thats a topic for another thread. I want him to be true to his word and release games on PC 2-3 years but he needs to confer with Herman who has been saying different things the last couple of years.

I think its inevitably going to be a mixture, and it'd be a mistake to try and hold them to a singular approach like with the whole "we believe in generations" line.

As both a PC highend user and PS5 owner, I agree with Jim. Why the fuck did I waste money on a PS5 if I can play on PC? My PS5 has almost 1cm of dust on it because I havent touched it in ages. Only recently I cleaned because I replayed Demons Souls but last year I played like 3 exclusives on it lmao. Give us more games, give me Bloodborne, give me that korean sexy ass game already, give me some good shit.

It would much better than 2 or 3 years later.
I don't think so. With 6 months fanboys would be pissed + you miss all the marketing. I think we maybe will see 6 monts by the end of the gen as a temporary solution and next gen day1. They are doing this slowly to not piss off the fanboys.
