Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

And still no suspend/resume.

Last year Sony killed MS. This year the Empire Struck Back.

Insanity to say Sony Killed Microsoft...

Microsoft gets an 8.5 Sunset Overdrive, Halo collection

Sony 7.5 LBP3... Ratchet movie..

I would have given it to Sony but they bungled it away with 40 minutes of blech. They redeemed it with GTA 5 and Uncharted. Solid 8/10. I give MS the same. Both overall had great shows, but Sony could have easily won it if not for the tv tv tv blah blah crap in the middle. Ubisoft and EA both sucked imo with EA being by far the worst of the two.

I'm sorry but this is very very subjective.

Crackdown, check. Halo 5 and MC collection, check. Scalebound, check. Forza Horizon, check. Sunset Overdrive, check. Fable, check. Phantom Dust (!!!), check.

I'm stoked fro The Order and Uncharted, but other than that, I was really let down by the lack of exclusives.

We will look back or someone will make a thread for all the games announced here at this briefing and see there will be a large games advantage for PS4. Why is this narrative continuing when Sony announced and showed more exclusives?

Please explain, because I find it very very hard to believe that the snoozefest I just watched matched Microsoft's conference presentation. Don't get me wrong, I am stoked for Uncharted and The Order.... but this conference as a whole was really poor.

Sony had a huge pacing problem, but when it comes to number of games shown they were pretty much equal in my eyes.

Drive Club has been shown and will continue to be shown on the floors and with trailers and such. I think it would be waste to pitch that game again. All the new and exclusive games they showed more than made up for that.

If it's one of your biggest (and only) titles for the fall I think you have to show it. I would have happily taken more Drive Club over half the time they used for the LBP3 demo.

So is the playroom dlc the biggest bomb dropped? Hopefully they add different music to have in the background instead of the default stuff. Some light piano for when I need to light the candles.

That's what I mean... LBP3 and Drive Club is kind of a weak offering from Sony. But third party games are indeed very strong for this year, specially October.. That month is insane.

They also have the advantage of having the best version of multi-platform titles too. An advantage they did not have last gen.

i feel like they didn't really announce THAT many new exclusive? A handful of: LBP, Bloodbourne, Abzu, Grim fandango, and?

Not saying its bad, but maybe I'm alone in wanting more I guess. Exclusive DLC and stuff doesn't really do it for me.

Sony should cut the length of their conferences to 60 minutes and just show the best games they have available and leave most of the filler for the rest of the week or just announce it elsewhere.

If they had just shown their best tonight and cut on all the talking and random stuff this would have been an amazing presentation for them, since they did show a lot of great games.

last guardian is probably at tgs.

The denial is strong.

Also, I'm a little confused why they would show The Last of Us: Remastered with only cutscenes which are already higher resolution assets. You think at least they would have done a comparison between the PS3/PS4 versions to showcase the difference.

Both companies were pretty close in terms of no.of actual content. Of course, preferences then lean one way or the other.

Do you care more for a Platinum game or a FROM game, etc?

if we're rating conferences...

Microsoft: B+ | No Megatons or anything, but at least their conference had great pacing with minimal talking and a steady stream of games.

EA: D | Pretty much sucked, but I'm not giving them an F because at least they showed Battlefront and Mass Effect in some form...

Ubisoft: B | Their conference was like a a rollercoaster of feels. Far Cry 4 intro was great, Rainbow Six and Division looked interesting, and I really liked what I saw of the new Assassin's Creed. Valiant Hearts was out of left field and a nice surprise.

Sony: C-
| Started out pretty strong in the first half. Some of it went on a little bit too long (LBP3, but that's because they sucked at playing it), the Boyes thing (though I still enjoyed it), but overall still pretty good. That second half though, ugh... terrible. Whateverhisnameis is fucking boring and droned on for way too long. At least we got some nice reveals and demos in the last 30 minutes or so.

Insanity to say Sony Killed Microsoft...

Sony 7.5 LBP3... Ratchet movie..

This selective listing is terribly annoying. Only LBP3 and a Ratchet movie worth mentioning? Really?

Suddenly I feel like I am in 90s Kosovo walking over land mines, only these land mines make my god damn head hurt and keep me alive to torture me.

Sony's conference comes out great if nothing leaked last night.
99% of MS stuff was leaked/expected.

EA "concept" fuck out of here with that. Don't show it if its not done, oh wait, that all of your damn games the past decade.

And most of the stuff MS showed wasn't excluisve. And what they did show was CGI for games that won't be out for years.

You also forgot a few games there (LBP3 to start with)

This is different exactly from Sony how? Forza Horizon 2, Halo Collection, and Sunset Overdrive come out this year

Sony has a remaster (Last Of Us), Racing (Driveclub), and then a goofy game (LBP3)

Then they showed CGI trailers for a bunch of stuff for 2015 and beyond.

The bias seems real here.

Yep. If this wasn't impressive, you're delusional or can't be impressed. I'd love to see them tighten up the middle next year, but content wise, they nailed it.

Impressive is a misleading word. The new Batman certainly is impressive but I have no desire to play it. I wish there was an example of a game today that blew me away. I like indie games, but not the ones showcased, they are more like artsy experiences with no game in them. The Witness is one I'm really looking forward to as a counter example. I'm more into over the top Japanese game design and "mascot" games like Banjo and Conker. Western games are all about the presentation. AC Unity has cool screenplay but rubbish, automatic gameplay that doesn't engage the player.

disagree

Ms came out with awesome remakes of their own

and Crackdown/Scalebound/Fable etc were pretty cool

Fable we already knew about, the other two are CGI that told us nothing and are years off.

Here's how I view, MS had much better pacing. Sony delivered on the content, the games were all there (barring TLG). So Sony won it for me since, obviously, I care about the games even if they did have a dreadful 30 Minute section.

Amazing how Shawn just ruined Sony conference.
Went from WOW....snoozefest...Oh, we are still here? Really, Powers? Oh, UC4? Meh, you already bored us an hour ago.

I couldn't even get excited for UC4 graphic =/
Now if you would have only announced TLG instead...

Shawn Layden is not a charismatic guy.
House presented sales stats at TGS, and it wasn't boring.
He even talked about TVTVTVELECTRONICSTVTVTV, and it was fine.
I hope House will be the figurehead next year...or bring back Kaz.

Probably a bit better than EA, but meh overall.
Sony is like 6/10 for me.
+10 for Blood, +2 Kingdom Under Fire +2 for Playstation TV
-2 for Shawn -2 for sales stats -2 for Power/comic dude -2 couldn't enjoy UC4 teaser due to being bored

Well, some interesting games were shown/revealed. The presentation itself was horrible. I hated the performance of almost every single guy on stage. Miss Tretton so much. And that awful middle part....brrrr.

Destiny looked worse than expected. Perhaps that's good so we can be sure it's no BS.
CG trailers that were very promising: Bloodborne( great atmosphere), Dead Island 2. The latter probably won't result in a good game, though.
The other interesting game was No Man's Sky. An indie game is the only one that looks interesting AND is coming out in 2014 go figure.
Uncharted... worthless. A quickly hacked together scene, that's all. At least the engine is ready. And the greatest tragedy, no TLG. That development hell.

Edit: The multiplats/rehashes were actually good, and I'll get some. MGSV, GTAV, TLOU, perhaps Batman. Yeah, it's worth waiting for these (upgrades, bundles, discounts)

At least I've got Nintendo, still. X alone is more interesting than everything else right now and it's guaranteed to be shown. Bayo2 is a given. Smash is a given, both out in 2014. And there's Zelda, with a 99% chance to be shown.

MS: B
EA: D
UBI: B+
Sony: B

I think I liked MS' more but Sony had the GotS in No Mans Sky. I'm not a Souls guy but people seem pretty excited by Bloodborne even if it was just CG.

Favorite games I've seen today.
No Mans Sky
Sunset Overdrive
Forza Horizon 2
Far Cry 4
The Witcher 3

Everything else was either CG or far away.

Adam Boyes was awesome. Thought he handled himself great and it was unfortunate that the conference felt like it fell off a cliff once the other dude took over.

No Man's Sky was definitely the highlight for me. Still blows my mind that this came from such a small dev team.

same problem as the MS presser, a lack of gameplay footage for their AAA exclusives...

I really wanted to see Uncharted 4 and Beast/Bloodborn in action... sigh.

To me only Bloodborn didn't show gameplay, even if Uncharted didn't actually show shooting gameplay yet and instead showed like a gameplay cutscene transition moment I'd say we know how ND graphics are going to smoothly transition to the action phase from this teaser.

I'm stoked fro The Order and Uncharted, but other than that, I was really let down by the lack of exclusives.

This man had a checklist of things he didnt know existed this morning. Witch!

Hey is no one excited for that ABZU game from the people who made journey? It looks incredible.
I would have thought more people would be excited for that game.

Yeah of course grades are always subjective.

My thoughts....

Rundown of both pressers, should be accurate. Bolded are "new" announcements (some were leaked).

Microsoft

<snip... don't care about what Microsoft did, didn't watch, can't be bothered to keep up with a platform I'll never care about>

Sony

Destiny - Don't care. Bungie went downhill after Halo CE.
The Order 1886 - Interesting, but the trailer here did nothing for me.
Entwined - Not the least bit interesting.
Infamous DLC - Ditto
LittleBigPlanet3 - Ditto Again
Bloodborne - Ditto Spree
Far Cry 4 - Dittotacular
Dead Island 2 - Ditto Riot
Magicka 2 - Meh
Grim Fandango remaster - Never played it, but might one day check it out
Indie Reel - Don't remember much of this, I guess that's a good thing
Let It Die - Ditto... oh no, not again...
Abzu - ...
No Man's Sky - Terrible. "Nobody's experience is the same!" Which means the game will be rather pointless.
Ratchet and Clank remaster - Nope.
Mortal Kombat X - Not bad, I guess. Wouldn't buy.
The Last of Us - Will buy... on PS3 eventually.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - That music in the trailer was agonizing. It doesn't help that I don't care.
GTAV remaster - Don't care.
Batman: Arkham Knight - Don't care about Batman in the slightest.
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End - WILL BUY, EXCITED, DRAKE DRAKE DRAKE

Nevermind the TV TV TV stuff, or the PS Now whatever. That's why I was bored out of my mind at this conference. Good for you for the people that are looking forward to the games I'm just completely writing off, though.

I know, I know, I should quit gaming or something. And I have, except for, of course, still playing the content I enjoy.

Good conference. Dat white PS4. If it had a bigger hard drive I would definitely consider it.

Great start and finish, but my goodness, that middle dragged on a lot. It's kind of like they ran out of time to tighten the presentation up, but it was good nonetheless. Thinking about it now, there were tonnes of games at the conference. A lot of it is going to get buried but there was some really good stuff games wise

Far Cry 4 looked incredible, cannot wait to get my hands on it. The Order was ok. Batman was amazing and I was actually shocked for some reason when I saw the GTA V trailer. Stoked for Uncharted, although I hope it isn't as dark as that trailer implies.

My game of the conference was easily No Man's Sky. Absolutely amazing looking, and was surprised they managed to get the "first on Playstation", and them getting the exclusive Hulk character is pretty big too for Infinity.

Although I wasn't too fussed about their entertainment speak, so happy about Youtube, it's about time! And I'm not too sure about Layden. Needs to work on lessening his hand movements for sure. I guess it was just jarring not having Tretton up there. The crowd loved Shu :)

Not saying its bad, but maybe I'm alone in wanting more I guess. Exclusive DLC and stuff doesn't really do it for me.

Exclusive
LBP3
Entwined
Guns Up ( F2P mentioned in the passing by Layden )
Bloodborne
Grim Fandango
Magicka 2
Let It Die
Ratchet & Clank Redux

Timed? Exclusive
No Man's Sky
Abzu

Others are not sure.

Sony Grade: B (B+ for the first half, B- for the second)

Positives: 1st half of the conference, indies, The Order, Uncharted IV
Negatives: 2nd half of the conference, PS NOW!, POWER

1st half was jut like the MS conference, game after games but I'm more interested in those indies (No Man Sky & the Giant Squid game looks super interesting).

I'm not interested in LBP3, but the enthusiasm of the presenters was infectious.

It then ground to a halt when the new SCEA guy came out. He was a fine presentor, but they should have cut this section after the MS conference. I guess when you fly out the Power guy you can't have him not on stage.

Uncharted reveal was fine, but not as substantive as I would have wanted.

A little below the Microsoft conference due to pacing and the midsection stuff, but generally equal in content.
