It's not really about sales numbers. NSMB games sell a shit load, yet the new one isn't selling Wii U's.

Were talking about how big the franchises are and the only objective way to do that is by using sales. NSMB is stilla monster franchise however the its not selling the WiiU because buying a WiiU is not an attractive proposition to many people.

IF it's not shit and IF people buy it it'll sell better than any hypothetical Fallout title? Got it

Wut? Did you even look at the numbers? FF13 outsold F3 by 2 million.

Nope.

Spike has better things to air during prime time like airing a repeat of Dodgeball that airs right after Dodgeball.

Come on Stu-kun. Fallout is not as big as FF. Adding the last two games together is no way indicative of the series popularity.
How would you prefer to estimate their popularity? Compare FFVII's sales with Fallout Tactics?

Both series have had two big games released this generation, and have sold to comparable numbers.

The "shipped" numbers you posted? I saw them

Probably right after the conference, specially if they say the price.

I work at a GameStop (please don't kill me) and from what I understand to do preorders we need a sku and apparently a count on how many systems Sony will be giving to GS.

I could see it opening up this week though. My manager expects August though for some reason.

FF13 had way more hype going into it than F3 did and it disappointed a lot of people.

That was several years ago, this is now.

I think the last two Fallout games have increased interest in Fallout.

I think the last two FF games have decreased interest in FF.

That's not an opinion on which is 'bigger' right now though.

I don't think Fallout will ever be fully exclusive as in skip the PC. If Sony can get an exclusive FF, I doubt it will appear on PC. So no I don't think Fallout will be a big hardware seller as an exclusive mainline FF would be.

I also think that people are hungry for a great FF. IF Sony manages to keep vs exclusivity and they show a trailer for it, people will go absolutely nuts over it.

I think it's a good idea to reveal the price even if MS doesn't. Lets people start thinking about buying a PS4, while XBone remains more of a concept.

Do you have any other numbers to estimate the size of the two franchises?

If you want sold we can only used NPD and Media create in which the picture looks like this:

F3: 1.8 million
FF13: 3 million

I'd point you to something like this:

I think the last two Fallout games have increased interest in Fallout.

I think the last two FF games have decreased interest in FF.

That's not an opinion on which is 'bigger' right now though.

FF XIII was "the next instalment in this historic franchise" while for many people Fallout 3 would have been the first they ever played.

If NSMB were as big as the numbers suggest, then it would make the WiiU an attractive proposition. Zelda and 3D Mario are much bigger deals for Nintendo systems despite selling less.

This is about franchise pedigree, not individual sales. Fallout does not have the pedigree of FF.

Fallout is a massive series and absolutely a system seller. 1 year timed exclusivity for MS may shift a lot of X1 consoles. Sony definitely needs something to counter that.

Final Fantasy brand has declined a lot this gen but still I think we can agree that both Fallout and FF (mainline games i.e) are quite similar in strength now.

Arguably, there is an argument there. A game that reviews worse (around 8/10) selling as well as a 90+ rated game, suggests that the lower rated game has a bigger fan base.

It's not a concrete formula. LBP reviews well, but doesn't sell all that well.

yes, and I think the hype for a new FF game was hurt some by the last two titles.

Agreed. It's not some major prediction by me on how the next ones will sell. I just think a new FF game doesn't mean as much as it used to right now, not just in name. Square is going to have to do much more convincing than they used to.

People are just assuming that Microsoft will be really aggressive and may moneyhat everything in their path.

just like microsoft would never allow sony to have a console with better specs considering all the money they have :P

Both are money hatting, probably one side more than the other, but the string of rumors that literally every unannounced 3rd party game is timed or completely exclusive to xbone is getting ridiculous lol.

Not on Spike. :( It's during prime time which is apparently hell for a conference since they have to air it ad-free.

If you have a PS3 though, there's a link to a direct feed via the "What's New" page. If not, you will have to watch it at a usual streaming site (GameTrailers, etc.).

Personally, I'll be at http://www.ustream.tv/playstation since that's their usual official channel to watch from.

Does Ustream run well on slow internet?

The biggest game changing games are not exclusives (FIFA, COD, MADDEN, BATTLEFIELD)

So, really, no, Microsoft cannot buy their way to console supremacy.

I see titles like Mirrors Edge 2 being exclusive, because they're relatively cheap to moneyhat...but that's not really a megaton.

I heard the new IP from Sony Santa Monica might be Xbox exclusive.
I'm no insider, just passing along things I've heard!

Comparable numbers sure but I think people are underestimating the mindshare that Final Fantasy has had decades to build upon as opposed to Fallout which was known to PC purists but didn't really come into its own until FO3. In any case, it will be interesting to see how these games perform sales wise this gen.

Most of exclusives , specially the ones from MS will end on PC. Also a proablay Fallout 4 surely will be time exclusive for Xbone.

Finally I am pretty sure FP Sony games will have busy the consumers until those games come to PS4.

It will be this week.

Ms and Sony will want to ride the E3 hype as hard as they can. "Available to order now!" will have a strong effect.

Both consoles had a fixed silicon budget; Sony just used it wisely while Microsoft focused on entertainment and other stuff. It's just that people are wary of MS' warchest and we know that they are capable of doing nasty things.

Maybe if Microsoft had a history of buying up huge exclusives at the start of a gen, or if there was rumors, I could understand all this speculation. But I just smh.

I'm saying it because before both consoles were revealed that was a huge talking point in these forums, just like every game is xbone exclusive is becoming. Turns out it wasn't true....at all. In fact it was the complete opposite. Obviously that won't be the case this time, MS probably has to spend their money considering their lack of studios and the possibility that they're behind in development.

But it's not every single damn game not named final fantasy lol.

CBOAT said MS got onoy one EA exclusive and we all know that is Titanfall. Mirror's Edge 2 willl be on PS4. Titanfall will be as well after the time it being exclusive is up.
