Sony Fixed Exploit That Let PlayStation Portal Run Emulated PSP Games After Hackers 'Responsibly Reported Issues to PlayStation'

Unauthorized access to Sony's device? It's a security vulnerability obviously.

I would love for access to remain open, but as a security specialist reporting it to Sony was likely a professional courtesy.
So the guy that hacked the vita is worried about security vulnerability for Sony? GTFO here with that bs.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
Too bad for the scalpers who thought it’ll help them sell the Portal

that didn't need to be "fixed"

The users has no rights to complain when it was pointed out prior release by many people that Portal can’t play PSP games, but choose to buy the Portal anyway.

Not to mention the onus is on Sony to provide the functionality officially here, not him. The users should live with the decision that they bought an official Sony streaming handheld over other OS-based streaming handhelds like a Logitech G Cloud.

For $100 more I can play PS5 remotely, Xbox Remotely, PC Remotely, and every console ever made before it natively.
and I have bluetooth.. the Portal is a joke.
2 things here. Plenty of people only game on PS so the ability to play pc and xbox or whatever else is irrelevant.

2nd, the price for what you get is phenomenal. Amazing screen, all dualsense features, great battery life, best handheld form factor.

If you want something that can play everything, then yes this isn’t for you but why would that be a negative to something designed for and by playstation?

Because paying that much money to turn a PS5 into a WiiU is moronic in this day and age, there is no reason they could not have delivered a handheld that can do more, and for something where audio options are a must not having bluetooth is just the dumbest move I've ever seen.

For the price point of $200, it’s a near perfect device.

So… why isn’t Sony selling PSP games/vita games on there??
Because they are idiots.

If they sold this as a PSP 4000 I’d buy one right now. But their strategy on any piece of hardware that isn't a mainline Playstation console is reliably wrong-headed.

No it's really not, it does nothing but give you a tablet with a single app.. and missing one of the most major features you'd not give a single tablet/phone any forgiveness if they left it out.
You can stream PS5 on almost any handheld device.. there is zero reason you can't at the very least natively run your PSP library on such a device at that price point.

You don’t get dualsense features and they are more expensive

Not one single person would choose Dualsense over Bluetooth, it's the first thing I turned off on my PS5 to get the controllers battery life to last longer than my steamdeck.. I cannot even imagine leaving that bullshit on with a handheld gaming system.

What a small worldview. I dont care about bluetooth. I own the pulse explores and I barely use them because the speakers are fine and I live alone.

The dualsense features makes it so that I dont feel like im missing out by not being on the big screen

it's fancy rumble.... I assure you.. your stance on it is in the minority.. it was a moronic move by sony to give it priority over BT.

It sold less units in the same time frame than Xbox Series X which has been out for years
selling out means nothing if you don't ship very many units.

There are also going to be a lot of people buying unaware it can't do more than stream a PS5 locally.. let's see how many used units are on shelves in a few months.

All this corporate pandering. If he cared about the security of the device, he would have reported before trying to run a emulator on it.

Do u know how ridiculous u sound? Comparing an entire console to an ACCESSORY?

Just get a Steam Deck. It’s infinitely better.

Sure, for triple the price 😉 (OLED)

Of course a dedicated handheld that can run code is better than a streaming only device, thing is, you always have to take into account the big price difference, this apple to oranges comparison doesn't help at all in a discussion.

the PS portal is a dual sense with an 8-inch screen, taking into account that the joypad (DS) is almost $70 by itself and a mediocre 8-9 inch tablet goes for another 100+... I'm actually surprised that Sony released it at this price.
in fact I would go as far as to say that the portal is a much better proposition compared to the even more expensive DS Edge which..is only a joypad.

PS: 99% of tablets and smartphones out there don't even support the dual sense properly (button configuration is all kinds of fucked up, plus, haptics are not even supported).

You can pick up a used LCD version for little over what the Portal costs.

there can't be any piracy issue (for sony contents) on a PS Portal, this is just a stupid move IMHO

Sony's has always condemned piracy regardless of how big or small it is. Look at PS Vita.
