[RUMOR] PlayStation Reportedly Set To Launch PC Ports 6 Months After Release Moving Forward

Impressive that this thread is still going, as dumb as it's getting.

Get over that 2/3 consoles are porting their stuff because of longer dev cycles/higher cost, and the Nintendo one will get emulated.

For years we've seen PC franchises also get ported to consoles, now more people get to play them. Consoles have other benefits besides exclusives, they'll be fine.

We can wait...

3 months would probably be more ideal as they can then get the remnants of the marketing buzz from initial launch. Possibly 2 months even better.
I think it should be Day 1 on Sony PC storefront with Cross Buy on PS5/PS6, Handheld, and also on PS+ Premium Buy and Stream Cloud Gaming (expanded to every device).

Then add the games to Xbox, Epic, Steam, Switch after 6 months. Then add the games to PS+ Premium Game Catalog 12 months after release. Add to Extra catalog after 18 months from release.

That would be best long term strategy for Sony.

My bad, I read this incorrectly. I do think that people are jumping the gun when judging this generation. At least wait for it to play out before comparing it to the ps4 lineup.
I don't think you can say people are jumping the gun when we're 5 years into this generation. This isn't the case like the PS3 were they started slow but, you could see what the studios are cooking. The studios have gone completely off the rails. Look at what Naughty Dog is cooking with Intergalactic? Absolute garbage..... Horizon, boring gameplay, annoying MC, bad story. Spiderman 2, I couldn't be bothered to finish it with how boring and formulaic it was....

5 years in, Sony just doesn't make fun games barring Astrobot. They're just trying to tell me some HR approved corporate slop story in their games. Just fucking boring with no edge, no risk, nothing at all. Sanitized "entertainment".

There have been more than 2 games released this generation and you've not played intergalactic so it's a bit premature to call that out as shite. The strategy this gen has been to shorten the announcement to release window. If I remember correctly the ps4 gen was criticised for its release cadence but by the end of the gen there were some great games available. What I don't understand is why you bought 2 pros after playing Spider-Man and horizon if you hated them so much.

So you think that one of their best strategies would be releasing all games day 1 on the competing platform/os? That would be more of a benefit to Microsoft than Sony and would lead to the slow death of their own ecosystem.

Yes, you're right that there have been more than 2 games released. However, my sentiment is that Sony hasn't released more than 2-3 good games. You may not agree with that sentiment and that's fine. Maybe you enjoyed the other games more but, for me, their games have been big misses. The release cadence is what it is but, last gen, there was the hope of what was on the horizon to keep people patient. This gen, they drip feed information so we get most of the info from leaks, studio hacks, etc.

You're right that I haven't played intergalactic. However from the initial trailer, it's unlikely I'll ever spend a dime purchasing the game. I've played TLOU2 and while it was technically sound, it was a an absolute slog to play. I beat it once and have no desire to ever play it again. The trajectory of Naughty Dog is one of a studio that doesn't inspire confidence.

Why did I buy 2 pros? I purchased it due to the performance promises sold by Sony. Unfortunately, those promises didn't quite hit the mark often falling short. There was a minimum level of performance expectations coming off the PS4 pro. Unfortunately, the ps5 pro mostly fails to hit those levels of performance. The ps5 pro represents a smaller performance leap than the ps4 pro which was certainly not expected.

Sony hasn't made fun video games since the PS3. Days gone and GOT and that's it, And those are ubisoft games. TLOU 1 was alright too. We don't get video games anymore.

You know the reason why Satya Nadella puts everything everywhere? Because he realized that the OS layer is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

What's important is Content, Community, Cloud. You control your own content, you build a far larger gaming community across platforms, and use the Cloud to reach every device on earth, rather than hardware limits.

Basically, by putting their games on their own storefront, Sony would be strengthening their own ecosystem. They would get 100% of the revenues, bring in PC users to PSN. They could even have that store run on nextgen Xbox hardware and still get full 100% of sales revenues.

Same with putting game on their Cloud service and expanding to everywhere, they bring in Cloud only users into their ecosystem.

Then after their ecosystem gets the full benefits of 6 month timed exclusivity, they can put the game on all other secondary platforms. Then another 6 months of sales revenues, put game on Premium tier of their service, get subscription revenues, then move on to next game.

Gaas, twisted dei and woke infestation, and exclusives being portes to pc and other console is really damaging PS reputation. I just wish they go back to Japan headquarters. Anyway, Ps5 is actually a good hardware, just bad Sony strategy. There are actually, some good games. For me this games are the silver linings: Stellar blade, Gt7, Astrobot both the free and full game, Silent hill 2 remake and Death stranding 2. Especially Death stranding 2 for me is a generational type of a game. But for now there is no point in getting a Ps6, whatever price and spec it have, if there will be no real exclusives.

done the lord of the rings GIF
I think it's time to accept that playstation just exists for people who don't want to spend money on a PC.

The writing has been on the wall for a while now you have KTGust porting Atelier to Steam FFS.

I like stellar blade, its a decent first effort but the story is nonsense haha. GT7 is technically good but, cafe books being the single player campaign really killed it for me. I love the sport aspect though.

Astrobot is fantastic and fun. I haven't played either death stranding 2 or silent hill 2. They didn't really catch my attention.

Wow. Talk about a bad hyberbolic take.

Suddenly games like Spider-Man, Astrobot, God of War, Horizon, GT 7, Returnal, etc. are not fun video games.
The first spiderman was decent. A good story but the gameplay was a bit formulaic. Horizon is the most boring series ever released by sony. The first was a boring game, the second is even worse. God of war Ragnarok was a step down from 2018.

GT7 is good but due to cafe menu campaign, it has no single player legs. Returnal was alright and kinda fun. Astro bot was genuinely fun with great replay value. So yea, he's sort of right. A lot of the best Sony IPs have their roots in the ps3 days.

Satya put games everywhere because Xbox alone couldn't support the cost of making such huge acquisitions. They can't have this vast amount of development and publishing talent rely on the income from selling on Xbox alone. They also have nothing to lose by selling to other platforms because they still have windows to fall back on if the result of that is the unlikely death of Xbox.

The cloud is a Microsoft pipe dream to reach 2 billion+ gamers that was never going to happen, there aren't that many people crying out to play console or pc experiences on the go. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe that anybody has a solution that breaks the laws of physics with regard to latency when you're not close to a data centre. AI guessing your input and processing that in advance isn't a solution. If you have data centres spread throughout the world for complete coverage with near local play latency then you have a massive cost issue, not only with maintaining it but also the huge energy costs that will be passed on to the end user. It also relinquishes too much control to the cloud provider. I like to buy and play on my own terms. With that in mind I don't believe cloud is the saviour. Local computing will always be preferred, certainly by anyone who posts on this board unless they're a company stooge trying to pedal a future nobody has any interest in.

How can you also say that Satya realised that the OS layer isn't important in the grand scheme of things? Windows, as well as being the dominant os, is also used to data mine users and monetise that data. They want users engaged in their os and interacting with their ecosystem, in fact engagement has been an important kpi of their earning calls. Windows is so important to MS that they're now leaning into it for their Xbox division and turning Xbox into a pc, finally embracing the near os monopoly they have in gaming. In this scenario, as is often pointed out, it means an Xbox can also play PlayStation games. If there is a huge shift in market dynamics whereby people skip PlayStation for Xbox, then it really fucks with Sonys ability to maintain an ecosystem as they don't have an os to fall back on like MS does. If Sony are forced to transact exclusively on pc because their hardware business collapses then they lose all that 3rd party revenue. It will essentially kill off PlayStation so that Sony is purely a small to medium sized publisher on windows os. Great for Microsoft but shit for Sony, and also shit for the marketplace competition that MS and their many followers like to often wax lyrical about. The survival of PlayStation is dependent on their ability to sell hardware and to maintain a marketplace, day 1 on PC will be the slow death of PlayStation.

Also the whole thing of attracting PC users to PSN, it's never going to happen. We know how averse they are to engaging with different store fronts.

I want all 3 ecosystems to thrive so that we can have a breadth of gaming experiences to choose from and that no one system vendor can hijack our hobby and dictate how we interact with it. After all it's about the game at the end of the day.

I enjoyed both astrobot and stellar blade, but stellar blade is my 2024 game of the year. SB story is interesting if you read all the text, memory stick and listen to all the dialogues. Astrobot is very relaxing, fun, and technically impressive especially physics. Gt7 is a chill ride and just look and appreciate those beautiful cars. Both SH2 remake and DS2 are fantastic even on base Ps5, try it. SH2 remake is very dark and depressing in a good way, and even at quality mode 30 fps it was stable and beautiful. While Death stranding 2 is a generational type of a game. It is very beautiful, cerebral, and addictive game. Dont believe what you hear that its just a walking sim. There is allot of exploration, big environment, epic scenes, world building, flexible options in combat, weird story and lore but very engaging and memorable.
