OP i like the way you think, during their state of play in july i kept thinking demon souls spiderman gt7 and ratchet will be in there launch window, all within a 3month period of release of the ps5. ratchet looks near completed, and so does gt7, and if the rumors are correct demon souls should be about done baking as well, price im not sure about.

I think you need to read up on the first year of the ps2 or 9-9-99 a remaster of a niche game and expansion pack are not a great launch line up. Sony has the best studios in the world they should do better.

It was rated in Japan and South Korea, that usually only happens within a month or two of release... there could be a delay due to covid though.

We already knew that when they announced they weren't forcing their devs to work on last gen hardware and again when they upped their hardware manufacturing to 10M by end of this year which typically takes close to 12 months to achieve.

It will be $499/$449 for the Disk/DE. A $50 difference is not much but if you have no interest in physical media, you save yourself enough money for another (almost) full priced PS5 game.

$499/$449 is not cheap but not expensive for what the system contains. Sony has a large enough fanbase that will buy it at that price from launch until next fall 2021 (10 million+). They have some wiggle room with the DE and drop to $399 if sales fall below expectations.

I think they are confident because the DE will be 400 and the disc version will be 500, so they know it will sell for a few years at peak demand.

They'll take a bit of a loss on the DE.

The software is another massive advantage, basically the generation will be done in the first few months.

Ive not seen Sony respond too much to rumor. They seem to talk when ready.

They never did respond to all the no RT talk and 4k struggle talk. They put up an hours worth of 4k games, some with RT to show people.

So they wont be at gamescon. I think that says another big show or two is coming.

It's possible. I don't think Sony are too concerned about having a quick transition from PS4 to PS5, especially since the former is still sold out at a bunch of places.

Remember: if the PS5 is going to be sold at a loss and the PS4 isn't being sold at a loss, then keeping the PS4 alive is crucial. You don't kill the thing that's bringing in money.

I still think the PS5 AD will be $399, every game sold for it will be through PSN so they'll make that money back fast, it also prevents the Series X from being cheaper and if the Series S is $299 it makes that pretty much irrelevant.

I want to agree with you OP, I really do, but I don't think the launch lineup or price matters at all. I'm buying one day one regardless of those two factors and I think many feel the same way. This gen has been amazing, but baby it's over and for me it's Cyberpunk and Spider-Man on new shiny hardware or bust.

Hit $499 and it will still sell pretty well, and the the s has a place in the market.

Hit at $599 and you will see no shortages, it will still sell but there will be stock left.....

How do you all come to the conclusion that Sony will sell another console at $599? Do you not remember the consequences that a Playstation costing $599 had? It's not even "this is different", "these are other times".

Just think logically:
Would you buy the console at $599?
Would the majority of the people buy the console at $599?

if the answer to one ore both is NO, then there is no way Sony will make a console at the same price as their worst money-bleeding console.

If they were thinking of pricing it at $599, they wouldn't be saying things like " We want to transition PS4 players to PS5 at the fastest speed ever".

I bet the PS5 DE exists because they needed to hit the $399 price point. They know that's the sweet-spot for consumers. The PS4 NEVER got an actual price cut. They knew the price of the PS5 would be higher than PS4's, so they made two models to make up for it.

ALSO, if the rumors that the PS5 BOM is $450 are true, they could sell the PS5 DE at $399 and make up some of the losses with the regular PS5 at $500, which will 'definitely' sell more between the two.

It's not like they do the product, and then they are like "How much would that sell for?" The target price point is one of the first things that are decided at the beginning of the design phase. There is an interview with Mark Cerny about the PS4 where he talks about that, and how they needed to hit the $399 price point as their first priority.
