Sony is aiming to have the biggest transition. Price and launch games have a Lot to do with It.

My bet is on $399 PS5 DE and $499 PS5.

You want that killer price for the digital edition as you're funneling your customers into PS Store exclusivity. That 30% cut for every game sold is going to bring them in the green after a couple of games. You also shrink the used game market which, in a roundabout way, will get you to even bigger cashflow. Sony wants an all digital future since it's more profitable.

The base PS5 is more a marketing decision than a need. They'll definitely not going to loose money on that.

Man, I really want demons souls to be a launch game.

It seemed fairly far along, and it would be the final thing the PS5 would need to make this launch great.

What Sony should be aiming for is slowly starting to line-out some sort of a road map.

e.g.:
September - Teardown
October - Pricing + additional Exclusive Road Map
November - Release

The first few years of the 360 was the strategy to beat PlayStation.
Remember when Xbox had a diverse library that appealed to a global audience?

But they went full Scarface.
Lesson number two: Don't get high on your own supply."

Power was not why people switched to PS4. it certainly wasn't the reason in Europe or Japan. And if Xbox think the power crown could reverse their fortunes, they learned the wrong lesson.
Remember Ps4 was cheaper but at the very beginning of this gen xbox had the better launch games. Sony games have got better through the gen 100%
