Sony made their own AI hardware and that gets me excited for a future possibility.

So we all are super interested in Sony's new PSSR, but it may point to something even more exciting in the future that no one is really thinking about right now.

Of course this all speculation but it seems everyone is coming up with their own small / low watt / high performance risc cpu and gpu designs these days for mobile phones, tablets, and even laptops / pcs. It leads me to beleive that there is more than a slim chance of sony developing their own cpu / gpu for future hardware again just like they did with pssr. There is a very big incentive to do so as it would be cheaper and would be able to be used in more than one device for them. One day you could get a new bravia with Playstation hardware built in, hell maybe even some form of home server box which is what both apple and google have been building up with homekit and google home... who knows whats in store in the near digital future. 🤷‍♂️

But the more important thing in all this for me is this will could bring back the days of ganming platforms having proprietary hardware ! :messenger_face_screaming::messenger_face_screaming:
Everything is so boring with just two big home consoles with almost the exact same hardware for 2 gens in a row. 👎

Sony would definitely add something beyound the standard if they solely designed their hardware again.

It looks good, but to me the price isn’t worth the upgrade. We are still in the infancy with this technology and it will be very impressive once they can get the technology nailed down.

Sony did design the ML block themselves and PSSR which they gifted to AMD relatively early on, forking into FSR4. Granted this comes from MLID.

I'm not sure at all, but... Ain't it easier for developers to make games when aiming at doing so for stuff like intel or amd cpus instead of whatever the hell was "the power of the cell" back on the PS3? And not just that, but doesn't that make it easier to port those games to other systems as well? With how expensive making new games have become, I can guess console manufacturers would be interested in getting as many multiplats as possible.

And to what end?

If you have to ask this then you clearly have no long term view of the future or understanding of why everyone is putting so much time and money into all these new low powered smaller chips and OS compatibility.

I even laid it out for you in the OP. Sony makes tvs, phones, and home theater systems,

and of course of course apple has gone from barely running games on their top macs to nearly ps4 levels on ipads in just a few years. Sony knows these companies like google, amazon, and apple are a big future threat to more than just gaming.

and there is things we only have hints about now like small central home servers running everything in your home that is the whole reason for why these home automation apps exist. sowing seeds for the future.

It use to be but not anymore. a lot of mobile hardware developers are creeating their own cpu / gpu combos. That is the beauty of software abstraction.

It can be done through Sony’s next handheld. The console itself though would continue to be AMD for BC.

Sony’s handheld with proprietary APU. Then Sony would open its own store for Windows arm, Mac, Iphone and Android.

The console strategy would be playstation and pc.

I'm interested in whatever reconstruction technique they're using in Horizon Forbidden West and how much of that can be applied to PSSR as a general tool. So interesting that Sony would have parallel paths for reconstruction/upscaling and anti-aliasing. You could make the argument that there is a level of redundancy here that isn't prudent.

Come on now. AMD and Sony are in a joint venture as with Microsoft in the investment and advancement of GPU's and consoles. And besides AMD are barely keeping up with Nvidia years after. Its taken years for Sony and AMD to come up with PSSR and soon to be FSR 4. For consumer grade chips Mediatek will be there for TV's because its cheap. Ain't no way they're bolting on expensive APU's on there, nor will AMD be in on that.

Sony doesn't have the expertise to make their own chips otherwise they would've done so already. Nor will they burn bridges of an already good and working relationship with AMD. Plus AMD is big on Ai and its development much like Nvidia is along with the likes of Qualcomm.

PC is the driver for new tech, look to the PC to see where the future of tech lies
True, but console makers has contributed a lot to the pc component makers through the years. Sony being one of the biggest contributors - especially to AMD in recent years.

Playing games at this fidelity and framerate and only using a little over 200 watts is what makes me excited for the future.
