Sony Pictures says Uncharted Movie is a "New Hit Movie Franchise"

kittoo

Cretinously credulous
So looks like all said and done it will end up with around 400m worldwide gross.
Not bad at all.
Haven't seen so can't comment on the quality though.

I watched it with my daughter on Friday. It was actually a fun film - silly at times - but fun. Some of the banter between Sully and Nate was actually pretty funny. More importantly, my daughter loved it and already wants to see the sequel. Job well done I suppose.

Watched it today, i liked it. I dont mind marky mark at all so thats not an issue for me. It was a fun watch for sure.

Tom holland is still not a proper nathan drake to me but its not that awful, maybe hell resemble an actual adult by the time a sequel comes out.

Movie just surpassed 300M this weekend a day right before its China debut.

Will end up as one of the 5 biggest videogame to movie adaptations of all time at the Box Office in the end.

Sony would get so much confidence from this.

It's important to remember that they made several bad choices with this film. If they play their cards right, a Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, TLOU, Horizon Zero Dawn movie/film series can be insanely popular.

Not remotely close to source material but still a really fun movie overall. Really enjoyed it.
I strong disagree here.

It have all Uncharted elements for the whole movie.

Yeap I can’t understand the hate here unless they not played the first game or not watched the movie.

Because calling it bad is suck a disservice to the movie.

Characters were very different and plot was highly changed too mang. Sure elements are there.
Character different? Do you mean look? Because the personality and dialogs are all very accurate.

And the plot is very Unchared… it is just a new one not in the game with a young Nate.

The fact the movie get the Nate character so right is already an archiving that by itself… the actor did a great job here.

I actually saw it without knowing I was going to see it or it was even out. Within the first 2 minutes I look over and ask this isn't an uncharted movie is it? I think they nailed it. I really enjoyed it.

Uncharted is currently the #9 biggest.

Soon it will surpass #5 Prince of Persia's $336M. Not sure if it can surpass The Angry Birds which sits at #4 with $352M. At best it'll end up as the 4th biggest video game BO results ever. But that doesn't mean it's the 4th biggest hit. We can't look just at BO numbers like that.

The #1 is the Warcraft movie with $438M. At first it looks good...except that movie cost $160M back in 2016 for production alone and it didn't even gross 50M in the USA. In fact $225M of its 438M BO results (more than half) came from China alone meaning the movie was far from breaking even and that's why no sequels ever happened. Detective Pikatchu is no surprise at #2 with $431M and at #3 is Rampage which i don't know what it is but apparently grossed over $400M as well.

Don't expect huge results in China with Omicron having considerable numbers and some places closing again...plus Batman debuts 3 or 4 days later only so...
I expect the movie to end up at $350M WW. Maybe a bit more, we'll know better after China.

Uncharted has a shot at ending at #3, only to be surpassed by 2 much bigger franchises: Pokemon and Sonic. Incredible results for this, no doubt!

Here is an article from Variety about No Time to Die to put things into perspective about budget costs and breaking even.

While that film cost $250m to produce, Variety is estimating it will need to make between 800-900m to break even. So that's between 3.2 and 3.6 times its production budget. Not quite 4x, but close on the high end.

Uncharted probably hasn't had the same type of marketing spend as 007, but it was likely still sizeable (lots of tv spots, promotion with Hyundai, NBA, Regal Cineams, AMC, etc, a fucking app, etc.).

And while Uncharted has yet to open in one of the biggest markets in China, the studio takes a much, much smaller cut from the Chinese box office and Uncharted only has four days of showings before Batman drops.

So while it's off to a good start, we'll need to wait to see how things play out.

If you read about bind online, they make virtually half of the budget back with product placement befor the film has even come out.

Company’s we’re paying over 10 million for there product to be in there. Estimated placement is close to 100million but could be higher so that factors in

Yeah plenty of movies are already partially paid once they hit movie theaters. And in a time there's so many huge streaming deals happening, looking at the BO only to say if a movie is a flop or not is such an old concept...

Blame Disney for buying everything and forcing the remaining studios to resort to formulate movies to be able to sustain themselves!

That’s the issue! Disney!

Disney has nothing to do with anything. Even if other studios owned Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars the cinema landscape would be much the same. Audiences just love Star Wars and comic films. Although, other studios may not be able to capitalise on their studios like Disney can, Disney are just smarter in that regard.

I think Rampage the movie ended up way bigger than the games ever was lol

The Rock was in the movie so it was probably just women & kids going to the movie to see The Rock not even caring about the game.

It'll surpass The Angry Birds in a week and surpass 350M WW.

In the USA it'll surpass Tomb Raider in a week as well to become the 3rd biggest videogame to movie adaptation, just behind Detective Pikachu and Sonic.

It's close to impossible...but it could become the biggest videogame adaptation ever at the domestc box office if it surpasses 148M. It's already at 128M and it did like 12M during the past week and needs 20M to go. It's tough...but possible.

Saw this on Saturday with the wife. Wasn't expecting much, just something to do, we like going to the movies.

Movie was pretty bad. Action was boring, Sully seemed more like Nathan. Script was really poor too, just a pretty boring movie that we've seen in better fashion dozens of times. No chemistry either between the characters.

One of those movies where you're like, "really? It was in production for that long and that's the script they went with?"

I finally watched the movie on Friday. While it wasn't bad, there were a lot of parts that annoyed me.
  • There is no explanation for Nathan Drake's ability to fight and move like he can for a simple bartender.
[*]There is no explanation for Nathan Drake's ability to use guns like he can for a simple bartender.
[*]The amount of double-crossing is ridiculous.
[*]The main bad chick kills the main bad dude out of nowhere. This wasn't awesome, it was confusing.
[*]Somehow she takes over the main bad dude's entire operation. There is zero explanation regarding why people are following her command.
[*]Why the hell can't Nathan Drake just put more fuel in the Zippo lighter? It was funny once.
[*]I don't know how anybody could have been surprised during the mid-credits "plot twist" where his brother is still alive.
[*]Nathan Drake will never look like an adult because Tom Holland will never look like an adult.
[*]Sully didn't have to choose between saving Nathan Drake and the ship. He could have just moved the helicopter backwards so it wasn't trying to rip the ship apart. Then Nathan Drake could have hoisted the anchor, and they could have made off with the entire ship.
[*]There's no way those ships would not have been falling apart when Sully, Nathan Drake, and the bad guys were walking around it, let alone during the helicopter takeoff. It spent hundreds of years rotting.
[*]Nathan Drake's bother had no way of knowing the crosses were compass keys since he never actually obtained one.
[*]The bad guys were supposedly looking in the wrong spot for the gold, and there was no explanation of how they were somehow in the same spot as Nathan Drake when he found the gold.
The logical inconsistencies bother me a lot, and it's definitely not one of my favorite movies.

This website says that the domestic LTD numbers are $145,489,237.

Are these the same numbers? Does that mean it's on #2 now, just behind Sonic, and has beaten Pokemon?

Yikes, film was good IMO, not incredible but good. Great detective emo batman.

Each to their own though.
Nah, that movie is a terrible batman movie.
Batman looks like has anorexia, depressed looking Bruce Wayne, when Bruce supposed cocky rich, shit ass batmobile. And riddler toyed with him all movie.
And the moral speech monologue at the end like "revenge is not the way" bullshit.
Bleh. Probably the worst batman movie I've seen. Even Ben's batman is better than that garbage. Also no one respects batman lol
What shit show
Also that joker, already hate him.

he's only been around for like 2 years and is very young. I enjoyed the take on it. Different Batman's can exist. I get it though, its not your thing. I like to try and be open to many things and I enjoyed the pace of the movie and scale they captured of Gotham. There were a few off bits and catwoman staring into eyes that was a bit cheese but I liked it overall.

I'm looking to watch uncharted soon.
