Sadly true, Playstation's arrogance coming from PS2 to PS3 was their downfall during that time.
Same arrogance as Atari before, and then Nintendo, Microsoft and many others in the same industry. Lesson is lost.

The controller got worse. Batteries needing to be charged and having to push that PS button to sync are negatives.I would not call it half baked, the features you mentioned are not key to the experience. It is not like controller changed a heckuvalot….
This is the exact problem with modern day shareholder culture.Industries outside of gaming would view the fact that PS2's sales numbers haven't been beaten or even approached in over 20 years as a failure on some level.
PS3 marks the beginning of our current era - PlayStation existing as a console that's less popular than the PS2.
Cumulative Worldwide Hardware Unit Sales (Sell-in)
PlayStation® More than 102.4 million
(As of March 31, 2012)PlayStation®2 More than 155.0 million
(As of March 31, 2012)PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) More than 76.4 million
(As of March 31, 2012)PlayStation®3 More than 87.4 million
(As of March 31, 2017)PlayStation®4 More than 117 million
(As of June 30, 2022)PlayStation®5 More than 61.7 million

Agreed 100%. PS4 for example sold less than PS2, but it was still a success in Sony's eyes bc it made money, exceeded their expectations, had outstanding games, and brought in lots of satisfied gamers. This is the exact problem with modern day shareholder culture.
If its not better than the last one, its a failure. Which is patently fucking false. Success should not require infinite growth.
You are making mountains out of molehills come on . Controller being wireless was nice to have. The controller got worse. Batteries needing to be charged and having to push that PS button to sync are negatives.
It isn't the full experience and a lot of people kept using their PS2s for PS2 games.
Even with a launch BC PS3 and CFW you're better off using a launch PS2 with a HDD for PS2 games.
Mankind be damned, so. I won't give up my PS3, and if it dies, I'll get another one. Adding this to the ones that already became grass and were eaten by antelopes, I think the one won't have the chance to collect 88 millions CElls, 70 millions tops.and now to save humanity, one intrepid gamer must collect all 88 million CELL chips and connect them all to a neural network to defeat a rogue AI. Let the globetrotting adventure begin now. CELL is the only chip powerful enough to beat the AI, but we need all 88 million of them.
Pros: Wireless 'freedom' and it looks like it's from the future. You are making mountains out of molehills come on . Controller being wireless was nice to have.
I can give you rumble for the launch model, but you could get DS3 controllers little over a year later.
Connect the usb cable and play that way if you want. You are harping against the wrong company as DS3+ have relatively low latency in Bluetooth and USB modes.Pros: Wireless 'freedom' and it looks like it's from the future.
Cons: Increases costs for consoles and controllers, introduces a wide range of nags (low power, press the PS button, etc.) along with increasing input latency.
Some gaffer once said that the last part of this animation has the hair clipped through the arm and I never can un-see that since.

Did you already overhaul it?I still have my launch PS3 with emotion engine inside. My all-time favorite console.
There is no lesson to be learnt. Businesses are to be expanded or be broken trying.Same arrogance as Atari before, and then Nintendo, Microsoft and many others in the same industry. Lesson is lost.
I don't see how that makes them half baked? DS2 and memory card support were completely invalidated because of the DS3 and virtual memory cards. And the 5 secs you spend in the XMB isn't a problem, especially when both PS1 and PS2 had their own boot up sequences.PS3's PS2 BC is half-baked and lacks a bunch of key QOL features that the PS2 has - wired DS2 plug ports, memory card slots and the ability to boot directly into PS2 games.
Its pretty much identical apart from the triggersThe controller got worse
You do realise you can just play wired, right?Batteries needing to be charged
Pushing a button is a problem? Are you really that lazy? You have to press a button to turn on any modern controller.having to push that PS button to sync are negatives.
What part of the experience is entirely missing? Pretty much everything has a superior alternative on PS3, as I previously mentioned. And people kept their PS2s because the PS3 was $600 at launch and BC models were only produced for a year.It isn't the full experience and a lot of people kept using their PS2s for PS2 games.
The only major advantages to using a stock PS2 is lower power comsumption and better reliability. A CFW PS3 actually supports MORE PS2 games than OPL btw. You get built-in upscaling/smoothing, wireless controls, infinite memory cards and HDMI support with PS3.Even with a launch BC PS3 and CFW you're better off using a launch PS2 with a HDD for PS2 games.
They became locked down due to having the same problems on PC: hackers and cheaters.Man I fucking loved the PS3. Kids will never understand the magic of downloading themes to change your wallpaper or using someone else's hacked save file.
Fuck these soulless locked down modern consoles. I'm glad I moved to PC
The Wii was awesome to me. I want that IR pointer back, it was fire! Not for this gamer.
Fair enough I only play single player games so cheaters don't concern me.They became locked down due to having the same problems on PC: hackers and cheaters.
